What a find!
We had a huge riverside pitch - and spent 10 wonderful days watching the canoeists and kayakers floating down the river. We walked into Beynac a couple of times - you can buy discounted tickets to the castle from reception. We also walked to castelnaud and the Marqueyssac Gardens.
The facilities are clean and modern, and bread can be ordered from reception for collection the next day. The snack bar has a limited menu, but to be fair, it's not the biggest site in the world (thankfully), so there is limited passing trade (and we did not eat there ourselves).
This seemed to be one of those rare sites where the experience of the customer is put before pure profit. I think I paid about 30 Euros per night for one of the biggest pitches I've ever had, with a cracking view. It made for a very memorable holiday.

Camping La Cabane has again changed hands as of January 2023. The new owners have renamed the site CAMPING CINQ CHATEAU. They have made some changed and have an updated website. The new owners are a breath of fresh air as the previous owners had become more than a little jaded increment years.
The swimming pool now has a heat pump and the cover has been removed, there is now and extended sun ;hunger area.
Showers and toilets remain the same and electric now seems to be universally 10 amp, there is wifi free near reception and payable site-wide.
There has been an extensive planting regime and this has meant the pitches are more delineated than previously. The riverside pitches are huge but nearly all have a slope.
The site is truly riverside with river access direct from the site - quite extensive area to sit e and watch the canoes if the river is low.
Snacks, drinks etc still available near reception in the old tobacco barn.

The site has now changed hands but hasn't changed in terms of 'atmosphere', still quiet even when full. There is now a small bar and pizzas are available. New owners are pleasant and anxious to please. Table tennis facilities have moved some are now around the site. There is also now a bouncy castle. THe bar is equipped with a HD television projector (8ft screen). SOme of the gites previously available do not now belong to the site but are still available via M. Gallon as is his Chambres d'hote.

We think this campsite is wonderful! We first visited in 1989 and have been going back ever since. The Gallon family are very welcoming and helpful.
Pitches are generally big - some are enormous. Most have some shade - some are in complete shade. The site is alongside the Dordogne and has a small pebbly beach if the river is low. A footpath goes between the site and the river and gives fairly easy access to both Beynac and Castelnaud, where you will be able to buy basic foodstuff. There are cafés and restaurants in both places - ake a torch if you plan to walk in at night.
Sanitaires: there are two, one near the pool tends to be the cleaner of the two and is more modern. The other is two thirds of the way through the site and in 2008 was being added to. Both have all the usual facilities you would expect.
There is a washing machine at the farm house. On site there is a pool and toddler pool, tennis court and boules pitches, with table tennis in the old tobacco barn. You can order bread etc at reception for the following day.
The site has an airstrip run by Air Chateau and offers flights at reasonable prices but this does mean at times there is some subsequent noise- we don't find this intrusive (but we do live near East Midlands Airport!). Hot air balloons often pass over and / or take off from/land at the site.
There is no on site entertainment or bar.
It is excellent value for money.
