What's to dislike. £10. 00 for the night.
Grass or hardstanding. Water. Toilets in pub left open all night.
Great pub. Very reasonable meal prices.
Would certainly use again.

Perfect site to visit local attractions like big pit!
Hard standing pitches which were needed at this time of year.
Very friendly staff at the whistle Inn who made us feel very welcome.
Basic amenities but we are self contained. A new toilet block is under construction which will be a bonus.
A great menu choice available and food was delicious.
Definitely recommend this site!

Excellent pub facilities, staff attentive and helpful - very welcoming.
Grass slightly churned up and un-level campsite, didn’t use electric but it was very windy!

This is in a fabulous location for Blaenavon's industrial heritage museums, with terrific views of the mountains, both in their original state and showing the greening spoil heaps.
We enjoyed great food and beer in the pub for a very reasonable price. The kids' play area looked good. Everybody was really friendly and welcoming.
The price is very low at £10 pn and this matches the site's basic facilities. Pub loos are ok, nothing wrong, but no showers. There is a new shower block but it is locked as not yet finished.
There is chemical toilet point but you have to be able to lift manhole cover. Current owners have been here a bit over a year so maybe they will be able to sort this block out.
A superb site that is a great choice if you are watching the pennies or if you have your own facilities to supplement the pub loos. I wish the owners every success.

We chose this camp site because it was in close proximity to The Big Pit and the Blaenavon to Pontypool heritage railway, 2 attractions we wanted to visit.
We arrived on a Thursday, and it was very quiet and peaceful. The staff in the pub were very welcoming and very helpful if you needed to ask them anything.
The pub & campsite are in a beautiful location with wonderful views across the hills and mountains.
A new shower/toilet block had been built and we were told that this would be opening in about a month's time.
The hardstandings are loose stone/shingle and slightly sloping but we had our chocks. Some go round the edge and the others go around in a circle with grass in the middle.
The next day, after visiting The Big Pit, we got back to find the camp site almost full with a lot of tents pitched in the middle on the grass.
Most of the tents had couples with several children, which put paid to our peace and quiet, so we decided to take a walk around Garn Lakes at the back of the pub as it's very quiet and peaceful there.
We'd originally booked in for 3 nights but decided to leave after 2 nights and make our way home once we'd been on our train ride.
My husband and I are in our 70s and felt that we couldn't even sit outside our van as really noisy children were running around everywhere, some of them not even being supervised by their parents.
However, that is not the fault of the owner or any other member of the staff, it's because we were very tired and just wanted some peace & quiet.
Overall, this camp site is in a beautiful location and if you're not bothered by children running round everywhere, then I would happily recommend it.
It's a shame there's no EHU, but we only paid £10. 00 per night so good value for money.
We were also able to use the toilets in the pub, although we did have our own.

Wonderful location and site if a little dated.
Had a excellent meal at the Whistle Inn.
Good and friendly service with real ale on hand pump.
Close to an excellent off road cycle path into Blaenavon and beyond.
We'll be back.

Great site friendly helpful staff food is amazing had a ribeye steak cooked to perfection give the food 10 out of 10 and the beer and lager very tasteful…
Camping is for people that don’t expect a gold plated experience….
But for people who just want to have a good time, highly recommend.
Will definitely be returning 😃

Before booking, I would recommend checking whether there are any events planned during your stay.
I had envisioned visiting a nice country pub, enjoying some good food and a couple of pints before heading back to the camping area for the night.
However, on arrival, the pub was packed and they had karaoke in the area that I assume was usually the restaurant and later live music. All very good but that was not what I required for my visit after a long day driving and walking.
I was told to park at the far end of the car park (rather than on the camping site - I still don't know why) and although it was quiet up there, it got very noisy about 12:30am with people heading to the caravans and campervans parked in the car park and the noise of someone throwing up outside my van at 12:30 stayed with me all night!
Visiting to toilet at about 3am was not an experience I would wish to repeat so on waking in the morning, I packed the van and headed to a nearby Asda to use their facilities instead.
There are times when I would welcome a pub with such a great atmosphere and, to be honest, everyone was very friendly, but that wasn't what I wanted on this occasion so do check first to make sure it's what you want.

Very good campsite especially if you not inclined to "All singing and Dancing site"
A lovely old pub with great selection of beers, a beer garden surrounding by hills.
Ideally placed for scenic cycle rides to Pontypool, and Abervigenny.
Very helpful staff in the pub

Ideal for those who love heritage and exploring along with history and nature bringing the welsh valleys to you
On the doorstep of the milfraen mountain in south wales, the heart of the valleys its everything old welsh
The inn itself is warm cosy and a overall quaint little welsh inn.
Close to Blaenavon ironworks and the big pit coal museum.
Great overall location dog and child friendly. Ten out of ten
