Whixley Lodge is right beside the main road and because of this is noisy throughout the night and day. There is only 1 shower, which wasn't a problem for us as we were the only people on the site! You do have to cross a small road to get to the facilities but they are still close enough so I didn't think this was a problem.
The site is just a field with a few fire pits and the ground is very hard. If it wasn't beside the busy road it would make a lovely site. I was very confused by the pricing though as it was really expensive (£53 for 3 nights, which doesn't even work out??).

We were not happy at this site over the bank holiday weekend.
Check in and paying was very poorly organised and information seemed to change moment by moment and camper by camper. We were given 3 prices for our 2 night stay and a family who was paying at the same time had had their price trebled since the quote on the phone.
The facilities were 2 toilets and 2 showers none of which appeared to have been cleaned for a significant time before we arrived nor were they cleaned while we were there. I took to using baby wipes to clean the filthy toilet seat in the end when I could hold it no longer!
The field which we stayed in was called the small field and was very very uneven. My 2 year old couldn't walk in the tent at all! We bent over 30 tent pegs as the ground was full of rocks.
The electric hook up was very poor as is was only 2kw which wasn't enough and kept tripping out even though we had to pay £5 per night for the electric which is not only expensive but more expensive than quoted on the phone and on their website.
We were given a huge list of rules that we must obey but it appeared to go out of the window with some campers.
Perhaps I should have known when I paid upfront before being shown our pitch, when I was handed the receipt that said in bold writing no refunds if you don't like the pitch!
This was described as a family friendly quiet site in reality it was a party site with far too much late night party music etc. We did note other families not staying as long as they paid for.
The site itself is on the busy A59 to York road which was busy all night and the noise was very loud even though we were the furthest away from it. Not good with young children.
The bins were not adequate enough and they frequently over flowed although they did seem to be empted regularly.
There is very little in the immediate surrounding area. Approx 10 mins drive is Knaresborough which is beautiful.
On the whole we were so disappointed with this campsite. It looked lovely on the website and really it was terrible.

A Basic and empty (speaks volumes) campsite apart from one other tent ! To be fair we can't complain that much as we only wanted one night away on Bank Holiday and they had the room so it sorted us out. However I can imagine a busy campsite and I use the term campsite loosely its just a small field with a fence, will stretch even the most laid back campers tolerance levels.
Showers / Washing facilities circa 1978 ! Rubbish still left in the field from previous occupants, toilet and showers a trek from campsite and clearly just a field that the farmer had spare and decided to make a few quid by saying its a campsite.
Won't go again unless I forget to book a campsite or need a one night stay on a bank holiday ! Oh and apart from Shotguns been fired all day from the farm next door, albeit some distance away the road noise is a pain.

Each toilet (there are only 2) are in the same room as each shower. All you need is a quick visit and you end up joining the queue for the shower!
The main A59 is situated right next to the campsite, with just a hedge in between. We sensibly bought some earplugs which seemed to dull the noise slightly.
The washing up facilities are lacking - only 1 sink for a field full of campers.
As for the pricing, well - I am still confused as to what they charge! We stayed with 2 other couples and were charged £13, £14, and £17 per couple each night! With no difference in tent size, cars, gazebo's etc.
I highly recommend the The Tiger Inn, a short drive away, for a fabulous meal at a brilliant price. Children are most welcome and the owners are extremely friendly.

This is our 4th visit to this campsite this year, there is always a lot of tents and is very popular, we have enjoyed every stay.
The toilets and showers are always clean, the site is tidy, the owners always welcome us with a smile. This site has a fresh water tap and chemical waste disposal points in the camp field entrance, also shower rooms are very close to the field, the showers are always hot and are free. Both shower rooms have a hair dryer point that work.
Yes there is some traffic noise as other reviews state but this subsides in the evening, no problem to us.
This site is for adults and groups, ball games, open fires and BBQ are allowed which is why we like this site. Pubs & garage and Co-Op store is only 5 minutes drive away. We take our dogs as there are places to take them for walks. The field is well drained and does not get muddy even on the wet weekend we stayed. We are going again this August bank holiday weekend, if traffic does not bother you, this is great site for groups & adults.

It's just an uneven field with nothing else, no water, no nothing. I wouldn't have minded if it was only a few pounds a nights but it wasn't. There are only 2 bathrooms for the whole campsite and these are over the road in a disused house. They were clean but always full. None of the plugs worked so you couldn't dry your hair. The main A59 runs right along side the field and the traffic never lets up. It was so loud even at night. I would however recommend the Tiger Inn for food, this was really nice.

This is a relatively small site with one shower and toilet and washing up sink (the facilities are situated across the road at the owner's B n B and looked very clean and new). It is very convenient for the A1 and A59. In fact the campsite field is situated adjacent to the A59 - there is only a hedged fence between the field and this busy main road. In view of this we decided quite soon after arrival not to stay as we were concerned about road noise and safety as we have two small children.
However if you are not bothered about the road it is certainly a very convenient site and you do receive a warm welcome from the owner.
