Stayed at tHe Old Gatehouse, Elvington for a week. Second time have stayed here. Now only 2 touring pitches. Site owners very helpful, we struggled to get our caravan on the pitch, site owner and other members helped. Facilities still good. Swimming pool good. Very quiet location but perfectly placed for visiting York and surrounding areas. Museum of Farming great for smaller kids.

Just back from a week at The Old Gatehouse Caravan Park, Elvington. The site was fairly easy to find -just followed the signs for York Air museum -it's not far from the museum.
The site is well tended. There are electric hook ups on grass pitches The shower and toilet blocks are cleaned every day. They are also in the process of installing a separate toilet and shower for the disabled. The owners were very friendly and helpful. I used the swimming pool 5 times whilst we were there and the owners were happy to open up the indoor pool for me. There are only a few touring pitches, most of the site is used for seasonal pitches. This is a small, quiet site. There were a few children coming and going but as this is a small site none running wild! There is a fishing lake across the road and Raker Lakes 5 minutes up the road by car. My husband went fishing at Raker Lakes and found the lakes to be well stocked and well looked after.
There was a small village shop down the road in Elvington but the larger supermarkets were about 5-6 miles away at Monks Cross. Though the owners did say there was a small supermarket in Wheldrake.
We used the Park and Ride to visit York -£2. 80 adult return -well worth it rather than trying to find a parking space in York. Plenty to do in York with lots of tourist attractions, museums, Yorkminster, bars and cafes and trips on the river. There's usually some sort of event happening and the Shambles and market are worth a visit.
We visited the air museum on a Thunder day, they fire up the engines on some of the aircraft. Also visited a lavender farm at Terrington -absolutely beautiful, lunch was excellent and the shop sells a good variety of lavender based products Whitby and Scarborough are easy to find but the A64 can be extremely busy and it took ages to get back.
Went to Stamford Bridge -had the best sausage rolls and pork pies ever from the butcher there. Thought there might have been some sort of permanent exhibition about Harold and the battle at Stamford bridge in 1066- if there was -we didn't find it!
All in all a really relaxing chilled out week.

We stayed here for just one night but wish it could have been longer. Great site. Lovely and quiet. The lady who owns the place was really helpful and even gave my husband a lift down to the local shop for some supplies! There is an indoor swimming pool which (although slightly on the cold side!), occupied my 4 and 5 years olds for an afternoon. There are even a few blow up lilos and things to use which the kids loved! Great value and we will certainly return if in the area.

Just returned from a one night stay (unfortunately)at this delightful little site. Stayed here to visit Elvington air museum so can't comment on shops etc. There is a bus stop just outside. Ideal for Motorhomes! Owners very friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Toilets/showers are Basic but fit for purpose with new ones on the horizon. Easy access. 'drawback'! Only three touring pitches (so shhh, don't tell anyone else) great site. Will be back.

An ideal site, clean and tidy pitches and a warm welcome. The toilet and other facilities could do with a makeover but everything is in working order. The bus stops outside the site providing transport to the Air Museum or to York and other destinations, very useful to motorhomers! There is an unexpected pleasure on site but you will have to visit to discover what it is. We enjoyed our stay and will visit again.

Visiting elvington air museum, decided to stay at this site, on entering we thought it a builders yard. Met the owner who signed us in then show us to our pitch, opened the gate to reveal the most lovely little site flat well mown grass spotless toilets, showers wash room, decided to stay extra night, owners really great people and a great help although we were the only motorhome we really enjoyed the peace. Highly recommend will come back soon.
