Very peaceful campsite (apart from the earthquake) with well-kept pool, lots of birdlife including a Golden Oriole which we could hear but never saw, also many dragonflies, butterflies and myriad insects. Didier, the owner, did a very comprehensive induction talk one evening in French about the area, geology and wildlife, but we did not last the course alas.
Facilities clean, but unusual arrangement of shower cubicles with the shower right inside the door and the basin/dressing area beyond that, made it harder to keep shower floor clean and your clothes/towels dry.
Didier was very helpful when a pedal came off one of our bikes, lending us tools and when we couldn't fix it, suggesting a nearby bike shop which did fix it for us, gratis! Shout out to Sylvain at Velo Culture in Niort.
There was indeed an earthquake while we were there, magnitude 4. 9, scary but no damage to the site or any of the folk there, and Didier immediately went around to check everyone was OK. Not what you expect in France!

Stayed for two glorious weeks. One day of showers. Two days overcast. Rest was sunny and warm/hot.
We have stayed at many campsites in this part of the Marais Poitevin. And. For our needs. This one is the best. No idea why I hadn't 'clocked it' earlier. This was our seventh visit to the area.
It's a three star site. ACSI. And a couple of kilometres outside St Hilaire La Palud. Right on one of the small canals, and linking onto the St Hilaire network, with access to the Arcais/Damvix/Coulon networks as well as others. So a very wide range of exploring and trips are possible, on water, bike, or foot. The area's wide range of cycle paths and hiking trails makes for endless possibilities.
You can launch your own canoe/kayak directly from a pitch. Or, the site hires boats (and guided boat tours) and bikes from the camp site.
Fishing permits can be purchased at the campsite office (which also has a plethora of information covering the whole area. And beyond. Eg La Rochelle is half an hour away, as are the beaches)
The Marais is an extraordinary area. Lots of pretty villages and the 'mystical' waterways offer a quality of silence that immerses you in an endless cathedral of greenery (The Venise Verte). So much flora and fauna to see. This site is in the Marais Sauvage. I. E. Less populated. So you can really 'get away' from any population pollution.
The only downside is that WIFI is not free. 20 euros unlimited for a full week. Though you can buy by the hour/day. The quality is good. I was able to watch SkyGo without any problems.
The campsite itself offers some fifty odd pitches, and mobile homes, chalets, safari style tents and canvas bungalows, and an old fashioned gypsy style caravan.
EHU points are standard ceeform and service four pitches per unit. Running water taps are scattered around the site.
Ablutions are very good. Shower/basin cubicles are excellent; English style loos with paper supplied. Soap and running water at the entrance/exit to toilet cubicle area. Doors defend all the interiors from insect incursions when lights are on. Consequently, not a web or spider in site.
Washing up sinks with the hottest water I've ever felt on a campsite!
Washing machine/dryer.
Hair dryers/irons are available for use.
The managers (couple) are very friendly and co-operative. She speaks little English, but he has no problem with a bilingual or straight English approach!
Pitches vary in size, but all are generous. Some. Very! There are plenty of trees to provide shade, if you want, or semi-shaded, or unshaded.
There is a good heated swimming pool, a paddling pool: aqua gym and mini-polo.
There's a children's games room.
There are various visits from outside 'concerns' eg crepe making, wine tasting etc.
The little shop stocks rudimentary groceries, ice-creams and drinks.
At the entrance to the site is a good sized restaurant offering a la carte service and a fixed menu at 15 euros for three courses (excluding drinks). Wine by the carafe is cheap. The food is good without being Michelin standard! There is a bar serving outdoors as well as in. And meals can also be out or in. The staff are chatty and friendly and good translators of all their eating and drinking menus.
Adjoining the restaurant is a well equipped games room: Table tennis, table football, darts, push-puck table etc
We will be returning next year, and probably make this our base for our continuing 'love affair' with the Marais Poitevin.
Open from 30th March to 30th September.

We chose this site as it accepts camping cheques. The site was tidy and appeared well kept. The staff were reasonably friendly and bread was available every morning even the last week of opening. It was the end of the season and one of the shower blocks was closed. It was not in any way crowded and the block that was open was fine.
The only problem with the site is lack of lights at night, having said that with no light pollution the stars were fantastic!
The site is in a lovely area ideal for cycling and walking.
There is also lots of wildlife.
The route we took to the site was uninspiring vendee countryside however the last few miles takes you into the lovely Marias Poitevin.
On balance a nice site, a great escape site.
There is also a nice pool which we did not use.
