I came from Italy to attend RIAT 2018
Confident about the presentation made by the official site, I spent an expensive rate for a pitch for 3 nights
Ok I was advised about the missing power supply. No problem also because a tent with some facilities about is present.
Let me add my review then.
Positive
During the reservation I got some problems but the organization was ok. I mean, the answers were precise and helped me. Good
The people in 'orange' was kind and polite. Good
The site is few meters from airshow. Good
The surveillance was ok but no one assign us a pitch because there is no number or letter to recognize them.
Negative
The rate is very very expensive for the services and facilities present in the camping.
16 showers (i counted them) for at least one thousand of persons (and not always clean)
16 bathroom for the same number of persons (and also them not really clean)
I didn't use the bar (fortunately) but a long line of persons every morning says it's completely insufficient.
When I decide to use the tent for the power supply (cell phone), I found a ridiculous number of plug. 2 ! with a lot of people waiting or bringing with them some 'extension' to be able to increase the power capacity.
Pitch are not so big. You get just the space to open the veranda and nothing else
Then conclusion.
Next time I'll find something better. Sorry but for the money you ask, it shouldn't be difficult to find something better.

Disappointed with this campsite listed on the RIAT website. States the site is 600 metres to the air show and 'about as close as you can get'. Well, we saw several campsites nearer and once you have parked 4 fields away from the entrance you're about a couple of miles from the air show easily. There were not enough toilets for the amount of campers nor enough showers (10 in total). The bar was handy but the food was terrible. All they served was burger and chips, fish and chips or a rather undesirable hot dog and chips. The food was served by one rather rude cook and a couple of teenagers. The word hygiene was obviously not in their vocabulary using their dirty hands to pile chips on plates whilst also dealing with money. Some of us had upset tummies the next day. I was also hoping for something for breakfast but when I walked over to the bar at 8. 30am there was nothing on offer. We were therefore starving until we walked to the air show. The pitches were spacious and reasonably priced but I'd rather pay a little extra and have better facilities.

This campsite is set out for the Air Tattoo that is held in Swindon every July. The RIAT event is huge and plenty of sites offer this camping facility for this event. They are farmers fields with livestock and come the airshow the cows are replaced by tents/caravans/motorhomes or wagons for up to a week or so.
It really is just a field with all the dips, cow pats and longish grass as you would expect. Finding it was easy despite the washed out signage. The guy next to us in a caravan took a wrong turn due to the signage.
We booked to stay for 4 nights and the cost for two of us in a tent was £110. This is clearly a very exaggerated price for an event but most in the area are about this price or more.
The campsite is spread over 5 or so large fields which are separated and bounded by some nice trees and/or hedging so our love for the birds was also catered for.
The site on booking offered
2000 Pitches
Mobile Shower units
Mobile Toilet Units which are cleaned twice daily.
Catering on site with a bar up until Sunday morning.
Designated General Camping Fields
Designated Quiet Family Fields with quiet time from 10pm.
Walking distance to the RIAT airshow.
Good views of the planes as they are on the flight path.
We arrived on Thursday and it was quite empty so we choose a spot adhering to the 'pick your own but only as much as you need' request.
Nobody from the campsite office was on site but a number was on the office tent to say ring this number on arrival. We did this twice but no answer. We decided to pitch up and began looking for the quiet fields. The A4 sheets put on the posts as you entered the fields were not, in my opinion, large enough for people to be clear on which field they were in and what quiet fields meant.
Half way into pitching the phone rang and I explained we had arrived and I said I would head up to the office as soon as we had pitched which was no problem.
The location was lovely and peaceful and as the days went on more and more people turned up filling in the campsite. Most it seemed were very good at not setting up in silly places or trying to squeeze in where they really ought not so that was a real surprise.
Good Points
Walking distance to the airshow (20mins)
On the flight path of the planes so great views from the site.
Quiet Field Available
About 1. 3 miles to a mini supermarket (Londis)
Plenty of hedging to give a little bit of wind protection
The bar and BBQ on site were very useful.
The 10 Shower units were OK.
In our field there was 4 toilets and it was clear this was not enough for the 200+ pitches in this field.
Bad Points
For the cost involved you have to offer the basics properly and this was not done with the promise of twice daily emptying not fulfilled. Toilet roll ran out on several days and by Sunday the toilets were becoming problematic with non of them being attended to at all. No toilet roll, not emptied, not cleaned, no hand sanitiser and worst of all by late Sunday the toilets were now banked up and quite a disgusting sight.
By the Monday the toilets were unusable and when the attendants for the toilets finally turned up all they did were lock the toilets so that meant the toilets had been unusable for 24 hrs.
Cost is high for few amenities.
The on site catering had packed up by 09:20 on Sunday morning which was a bit early I thought.
Some issues that are not directly anything to do with the site owners are
10PM quiet was never attained. I eventually showed my displeasure to a partying group at 23:30 which worked.
Same group ran a generator from 21:30 until 23:00.
In summary
Great site for the event.
Walk to the airshow (20mins)
Shops are a short drive away. A few pubs close by
Prices whilst grossly inflated are about par for the area on this event.
Quiet fields signage needs to be clearer.
Rules unenforced.
Generators were allowed.
Choose own pitch and size to what you needed.
Toilets not cleaned rendering them unusable.
Of all I thought the toilets were really unfair for the price paid.
A great spot though let down in some key areas.

Amazing campsite friendly staff and loads of space. The facilities were perfect and just what I needed (skips, clean portaloos, hot showers, food and a bar) only a 15 minute walk to the base and I was camped right under the flight paths and it was great value for money. Not strict rules about when you had to be there or leave. Another great feature was the family field so those of us who wanted a good night sleep without being disturbed could get to sleep. On Friday and Saturday night they served food so on the other or if you didn't want it there are loads of pubs in the surrounding area.

Toilets ok could have done with a couple more but kept clean, fresh water pipes pressure left a lot to be desired when more than one tap being used at one point the tap I was using just stopped so had to wait a nuisance but not a major problem, the fields were great, no over crowding the staff were great. Just one major problem, the electric fence, it was not fully turned off as my husband received a nasty bolt and so did our family pet who was left very distressed and shaking, could have been very dangerous especially if my husband had heart problems (as we are retired it is not an unlikely scenario ) if it had stayed on and or my grandchildren had touched it I would be seeking legal advise But, we, as a family have used this site for a number of years so believe it was an honest oversight ( I hope) Will not put us off as in general it is a good basic site at least this year we had no mud! SO please watch the electric fence the site is child friendly except for this one off??? incident!

What a relief! No loud music, no overcrowding, relatively quiet at night, decent ground and staff/owners so, so friendly.
The showers were a welcome surprise as we had not expected them. OK, the mud was there but on looking at other sites I think that this site was by far and away the better one for this, anyone who did get stuck was towed as soon as they asked for help. £10 per night was a respectable price to pay (£15 fri and Sat)
A little further to walk to get to the airshow but, hey, I needed the exercise anyway
My only niggle, and it is a small one, the toilets could do with emptying a little more often
The view was good, not excellent but good ( maybe a bit of hedge trimming would help this for next year?
I have been using Kempsford camping since 1986 and from this year I will NOT be using them again, it's this site for me from now on.

A message from the site owner:
Thank you for the fair reviews. That said, I was let down by the supplier of the portaloos.
However they will be of a much higher standard this year and there will be more of them.
There are two water taps on site (more this year). 2 adults and 2 children for one night was £30 not £40.
If all goes well there will be food served by top caterers for sale on site.
Fairford airshow camping is a lovely campsite and park and view for all ages and provides a fantastic atmosphere for all.
Thank you
Team Fairford Airshow Camping.

I went with my partner to watch the Fairford Airshow and stayed for two nights costing £10 per person per night. The owners were friendly and welcoming and easy going, not minding when we arrived or left and patrolled the field fairly regularly so if you had any questions they were close at hand.
The site had one tap and 3 portaloos which had seen better days. One of the loos had no lock, so I used a tent peg to hook the door shut, another had a gaping hole at the bottom of the door and none of them flushed but they did get emptied. No showers or any wash facilities at all so wet wipes and body spray a must.
We watched the airshow from the field the first day and could see most of the displays, some of them even flying overhead as the field lined up quite nicely with the planes landing line.
The second day we walked to the airshow which was a very straight forward approx 15 minutes up the road.

Well, I was only expecting a field and a few portaloos so I wasn't disappointed!
The charge for 1 night for 2 adults & 2 children & 1 tent was £40 which is rather steep for an overgrown field with 3 v grotty loos & one tap in a corner.
However, I'm sure all the other temporary fields nearby are the same & we did have a brilliant time at the airshow so mustn't grumble eh.
It was about a 15 minute walk to the airshow - just follow the crowds.
