This was quite a find, an absolute bargain price, for a quiet, but adequate campsite. It is a sloping field, which, despite pitching in heavy rain drained very quickly. They views are amazing.
There is a laundry shed, which I find for a family holiday an essential. A small play area, which you can see from any of the pitches, so nice and safe for younger children. The toilets are a mixed bag, every where is clean but somewhat dated. The ladies have a newer small block of two toilets and one very large shower (you can get the whole family in). The men have one toilet and one shower in more of an outbuilding arrangement.
The only downside is the lack of hot water. There is no hot water in the sinks either for hand washing or dish washing. The shower is £1 for which you get ages (I recall about 20mins). It would be handy to have another meter for the washing up area as cleaning burnt on food in cold water is hard going!
The owners are friendly and helpful. We had such a lovely stay we extended it for two extra days. The site is a great base to explore lots of tourist destination in west Cornwall.

We have stayed on this site 3 times and will be going back again in future if we are able.
The site overlooks a beautiful valley with an old Tin Mine on the other side. It is a small gently sloping site with 2 areas for camping - even though the site is not massive you are not on top of each other.
The site has nice (if a little basic) toilet facilities with decent showers which are on a meter that gives plenty of time for your money. There is a laundry room with washer and dryer and a children's play area with a climbing frame. There are also picnic tables which you can move and use - along with a couple of rotary washing lines which are very useful!
The site is in a great location for going North to Hayle (and Gwithian/Godrevy Bay which is great for a beach and free parking for National Trust members) or Penzance, Marazion (St. Michaels Mount) and the Lizard to the South.
We are looking forward to visiting again. As I have said before - the view is lovely and sitting having breakfast overlooking the valley is one of my lasting memories of this site.
Apparently there is now (2015) a new toilet block.

What a find, secluded site but very handy for touring all around Cornwall.
Site is immaculately kept, owners really helpful and friendly, nothing to much trouble for them.
The views are superb, the playground kept the kids well occupied, the showers, toilet are basic but cleaned daily shower certainly well worth the £1 as was the laundry facilities, clothes airers sited around the field as were the benches for meals outside.
We will certainly be going back next year.

Site really private, friendly owners, lovely atmosphere, a bit isolated. Duke of Leeds pub really good reasonable priced food. Good base for exploring this part of Cornwall. Toilet facilities a bit basic but good value for the money. Play ground for children. The goats were really friendly but didn't eat our tent. The owners went out of there way to help visitors.

A Camping & Caravanning Club Certified Site which is ideally situated for visiting the extreme west and south of Cornwall.
If you like Certified Sites / Locations, you will certainly enjoy Gwel An Bal with its totally peaceful location behind the owners cottage and its beautiful uninterrupted views across the Hayle River valley.
Expect to be on a gentle slope; not a problem, but you might need your leveling ramp. We experienced a lot of rain, and the ground stayed firm.
The wc / shower (£1, seemed to be enough for everybody!) and pot washing facility is not the most modern, but well maintained and perfectly acceptable in every way. (Please remember that this is a C.S., so having a shower at all, I view as a bonus.) There is also a very reasonable laundry facility.
The owner keeps a collection of a few (friendly) goats, miniature ponies, chickens and ducks.
For your basics, a mobile shop visits every day between 09.15 and 10.00. Otherwise, Penzance has all the usual supermarkets.
West Cornwall is a great place to tour, but when you are out and about, if you can take a picnic and have a brew-up, you will save yourself a mint.
