A friend and I decided to camp late on the in week prior to the bank holiday. We were overjoyed to find a campsite which had a spare slot.
We arrived into the town of Upton in the day, which was lovely. There are a couple of small shops (Costcutter and Spar), pubs and a few other independent shops; they also have a fab wine shop, which was a delight to visit and got some great wine. The town is on the river, and we were able to watch the ducks whilst eating icecream on a sunny day.
The campsite is one field for caravans and one sloping field for tents.
When we got to the campsite, we found no one else on the campsite, which was a surprise even the bank holiday weekend. The owner showed us the facilities, which included a toilet and a shower. The showers cost £1 for 15 minutes. The toilet and shower were dirty and the guest book contained poor reviews of the facilities and campsite. We were surprised at the level of facilities given the price of £15/night.
There was electric hook up available, but we did not require this. There did not appear to be any facilities for children.
We set about putting up our tent, during the process we were approached 2 -3 times by 2 of the owner's family (children) who asked us for a lift into the town. We politely refused each time.
We then made our way into Upton to find the there were several groups of young people drinking and sitting around on park benches. The atmosphere appeared completely different place to that which we had experienced in the afternoon.
In the end we decided that we did not feel comfortable staying there and left before even staying over.
All-in-all, Upton appears to be a friendly place to visit during the day, but given the written feedback at the site and our experience I would not recommend using the site.

We were originally booked for 3 nights.EHU's and standpipes available. However, we were packed and ready to leave by 10 the next morning. This is a Certificated Camping & Caravanning Club Site. When we arrived there was 1 caravan on the site with a family who had cancelled their future visit. When they arrived there were 11 units on the site (local jazz festival on). The toilet facility is a single 6x4 gardenshed with a toilet, shower and cold water wash basin (if you don't like 8 legged beasties/cobwebs, don't go). Showers are £1. This site was £15 per night. Although the the C&CC brochure does describe this site for what it is, there are much better sites in the area for around the same price. Also it is close to the A4104 so traffic starts at 6am and goes on till 11pm.
