We had visited the site 3 years ago and enjoyed our stay, sadly the site seems to have deteriorated and is in need of a little TLC. There is some improvement taking place with the installation of full service pitch facilities, about 20 of these pitches are available. The toilet block has only 2 showers one of which had a leak and did not work very well. Two wall mounted hairdryers exist but only one was working. The toilet block was clean and reasonably tidy. Electricity is only 4 amps and trips out very easily though there is an option to increase to 10amps by payment. Despite these failings the site has a good playground and there is fishing in the small lake. All pitches are of a good size, flat and level. Walking in the area is very good and there are maps showing quite a few trails. There is an on site saleroom with a reasonable selection of accessories and Dethleff have a good representation of their caravans to view. Local supermarkets are 10 min away by car or 15 mins walk across the field, prices are good and a wide range of food is available. There is an on site restaurant but we did not use so cannot comment. There are a few restaurants in the village but non we thought to be outstanding. Camping cheques are accepted fo set dates. Overall a nice place to stay for 4 or 5 days

We used this site as a 3 night stopover on our way home from south east Germany. The site is somewhat 'out in the sticks' but is also relatively close to the autobahn network so is ideal as a stopover. The pitches are mostly flat and grassed with tarmac roads. The pitch sizes are fairly large, 4 man tent + 2 pups + car all fitted easily. The toilet facilities are modern and clean. Although there is a fairly large caravan/camping equipment shop, there is no food shop.

There are food shops and a small supermarket in the village of Trippstadt 10 minutes drive or half hour walk, through woods and across fields, from the site. Reception was very friendly and informative, English was spoken. There is a fairly large restaurant/bar complex which we did not use except for takeaway one evening. The takeaway was OK, nothing special. There is a large children's play area at the bottom of the site, well away from the pitches. Although this is a fairly large site it never seemed too busy or crowded whilst we were there.

The local area is heavily forested and there are some excellent, waymarked, walks fom the site. The walks are marked on the handout in the 'welcome' pack from reception. Unusually, for a German site, the 'natives' were extremely sociable, often stopping to talk to us.

In conclusion, I'd say that this is one of those sites where it is perfectly pleasant to stay for a few days but it didn't have a lot of 'character' and you may run out of things to do after several days. Equally that may be grossly unfair to the surrounding region as we didn't really explore very much.

To find site:- Exit A6 Autobahn at Kaiserlautern West and take B270 towards Pirmasens. After about 9kms turn left to Karlstal/Trippstadt and follow signs for campsite and Neuhof. Part of the final approach is narrow in places but no problem if care is exercised. From the direction of Landau take B10 and at Annweiler take B48 towards Johanniskreuz and follow campsite signs.

Camping Sagmuhle is almost in the middle of nowhere about 10 kms south of Kaiserlautern! Its in a heavily wooded valley with a lake that can be used for swimming and boating. There are several pitching areas but the main one is opposite the reception. All pitches are on grass and of a reasonable size although they do vary. Like most German campsites the camping area is shared with permanent units although this site does have touring areas. Electrical connections are of 4 amps using continental round 2 pin connectors. Whilst 4 amps seems low we found it perfectly OK if treated like 6 amps which is more commonly found. You can upgrade to a 16 amp metered supply using 1kw tokens at 40 euro cents each. If you make use of this facility you must use the right connector in the box with the meter. Water points are handy to all pitches. The toilet block in our section of the campsite was to a good standard with seated toilets and paper provided. Unusually this campsite also has a caravan dealer and accessory shop attached but unfortunately the shop does not accept credit cards or UK Bank Cards. Bread can be ordered for collection by 10.00am the following day. The gates to the campsite are closed from 12.30pm to 2.00pm and from 9.00pm to 7.00am the following morning. There is parking within the site but outside the pitching areas during the hours of closure. WiFi is available via a T-Mobile access point and you can pay on line. At €8 for an hour its quite expensive but if you will be in Germany for any length of time the monthly pass at €29 would be the cheaper option. The site has a large Restaurant and a Bar. Camping Cheques can be used in the low season.

There is ample opportunity for walks and cycling direct from the campsite. For shopping the best bet is Kaiserlautern with a choice of several supermarkets.
