Good
Lovely valley old trees, beautiful church, warm showers, compost loos
Bad
Entire site on slope, few flat pitches time-consuming to find, noisy groups of school children (40 with cantine and games till late), Duke of Edinburgh camping groups, heavy drinking and flood lights till late by small number of pitched visitors. Owners rarely visit the site.
Gatwick departure flight path 12 miles distant, starts 5am every 5 mins. Do get used to it.

We were delighted that we found a campsite at 24 notice. AND that it was ok to book just one night at a weekend. (Both adults still working Mon to Fri. )
The owner was encouraging and relaxed on the phone which made the arrangement easy. Both he and the person checking us in were friendly, helpful and efficient, making this a speedy and welcoming arrival.
We camped in an overspill field, with plenty of choices of pitch, and sites of clean portaloos and standpipes.
Kindling, firewood, matches and skewers were at a low price and it was a pleasure to be able to choose where to have a fire on the ground, and not have to lug bricks or metal cauldrons around to designated spots.
It was lovely to camp in an open field, in an orientation that suited our grouping, rather than in regimented rows, close to neighbours, as you do at the more formal sites.
Plenty of wild life, and woods to explore if we had more time, and close to two pubs and a wildlife reserve on the reservoir.

Lovely campsite, it is basic but clean. Sam, the man in charge, was very friendly and was always around and happy to help with a smile. We were on a private field with a group of friends and we all had a great time with plenty of space for games and privacy. We walked to the Fox Inn, which is close by, for a lovely lunch.
Please note that the site charges per head rather than per tent, this seems a bit naughty given that there were no facilities that could be strained and cost the site more from having more heads, thus making it expensive for what it was. It would have been much better and certainly more appropriate to charge per tent, though that said may be the site's insurance necessitates changing per head.
All-in-all it is worth a short visit.

Fantastic weekend, although it rained all day Saturday still had a lot of fun.
Facilities very basic, but very clean. We had a very large area where the children could play and not disturb other campers with the football.
Sam drove round a couple of times making sure we were alright & to see if we needed any logs.
Would recommend to anyone.

This was our first getaway as a group after lockdown and we have just had the most brilliant weekend.
The site staff were helpful and available but not at all intrusive.
This is basic camping as it says, and the compost loos are perfectly clean, (plenty of sawdust and loo rolls). Fresh water at convenient points and camp fires are totally allowed.
The fields are a bit sloping in places but flat spots can be found easily. The site is sheltered by trees which makes it feel like a big cocoon.
There are lovely walks very nearby and a great pub The Cat, 5 mins walk away. To be honest the no music policy felt like something of a relief, just us and nature in an absolutely beautiful setting.
I'm only giving it 5/10 on facilities because it is basic but that is what it says on the label!

Exactly what it says on the tin, if you’re looking for a couple of cheap quiet day/nights camping you can’t go wrong at hook farm,
It’s a back to basics camp site with clean toilet facilities and drinking water.
I went with 3 teenage boys who kept themselves entertained by exploring the little woodland area and other fields as well as building and maintaining the camp fire,
It’s a very spacious campsite wasn’t pitched up right on top of other campers with plenty of space for my 3 lads to play and not aggravate anyone else,
Will definitely be visiting again

West Hook farm is a really good campsite, we've gone there for quite a years now and Karre and Rob are very welcoming and helpful.
The location is stunning with Marloes sands within walking distance. The headland is close by with good views of Skomer Island and you can take a boat trip over to see the Puffins too. The coastal path runs right by the campsite. The whole peninsula is very unspoilt and just right for wandering around and finding nice spots to relax in.
The campsite is great with pitches running around the perimeter of a few fields, always seems quiet with no cars allowed to drive around late at night. So nice to not be packed in like sardines. It has good facilities that are cleaned through the day. Cassette Toilet disposal point is handy too.
All in all the site is well organised with just the right balance of peace and quiet and yet be pretty easy going so people and kids can enjoy themselves. We've given up going anywhere else in the area as the other sites all the way up to St Davids are far too chaotic.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time over the bank holiday weekend. The campsite was clean and peaceful with a rustic charm (it was so nice to unplug for a couple of days).
Although it was fully booked you didn't feel like you were on top of one another. The facilities were clean and there were enough of them that you were only ever a short hop from wherever you chose to pitch your tent.
For dinner, rather than braving my boyfriend's BBQ-ing skills we walked down the lane to the Fox. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced.
The campsite host Sam was very welcoming (and a bit of a dish to boot!) he made sure we had enough fire lighters and logs for our campfire.
All in all it was a lovely weekend all round, I would highly recommend staying at Hook Farm for anyone looking for a peaceful break in the sunny Sussex countryside.

Amazing site with loads of room to pitch, and very pretty surroundings with lots of wildlife. Owners were welcoming and helpful, they advised us of some great local walks. Very peaceful and no loud groups which was a relief.
Facilities were basic but clean, with portaloos, compost loos and water points. But the ability to have an open campfire wherever you pitch makes up for this, and you can get firewood from the owners which saves bringing it.
The site is slightly sloping in places so would recommend any campervans stick to the top fields. There is also a no-music policy.
Overall we had an amazing stay and would definitely come back.

We stayed at the campsite last weekend. Its in the heart of beautiful countryside with amenities in walking distance from a couple of good pubs with good food, a well stocked shop down the hill, and beautiful walks.
Its near East Grinstead, Forest Row that have some great eateries including a curry house and Portuguese restaurant (you might need to book as very popular). Hartfield the land of Pooh bear with again good country pubs and walks. The site is very large giving you a feeling of space and privacy. Its rustic and charming. Lots of toilets dotted around the site with toilet paper!
The farmer is very warm and hospitable aiming to please. My son aged 6 had a tractor ride which was of course the highlight of the trip. We are hoping to go again very soon in view of having a party.
We stayed on a Saturday night and were amazed all was quiet by 11ish to midnight. It had a lovely atmosphere with people from all walks of life.
Would definitely recommend! Thank you!
