We stayed for 5 nights, yes there is road noise its on a busy road, but the hedges have grown and its not a problem.
I wanted to write an updated review as we had already booked when I read the previous reviews and was worried about the noise.
Its handy for park and ride, Beemish and Seaham, also the bus passes the site if you don't want to use car. Owner friendly.

It seems nothing has changed since the last review. We visited as it was convenient for a family event, and so were there for 3 days, but it was noticeable that others stayed for only one night.
The A691 next to the site is very noisy all day and night due to the speed of traffic on it, which makes slowing on the road to get into the narrow drive a bit hazardous. It needs advance warning on the road so you can slow down - going past it and having to come back seems the norm.
The barking dog next door starts at 5:50 and goes on all day!
We were met on arrival and quickly given instructions, but more signs around would be good - never did find the toilets or bins!
We were told that hardstandings cannot be booked and there are some marks of skidding tyres on the grass due to this appalling summer. It would be better if booking were allowed as our motorhome is so poor on grass that we would have had to turn away if we hadn't managed to get onto hardstandings.
Good points are that it is fairly level, and the bus stops nearby for Durham

Small CL just on the outskirts of Durham. Durham itself is very beautiful, and seemed to have a relaxed atmosphere - Both the castle and cathedral are worth a visit. The site has good views over the village of Bearpark where hot air balloons can be seen taking off. There is no real local shop, but there is a Sainsburys and indeed a whole retail park at a place called Pity Me which is about a mile from the site.
As the site is right on a main road there is a fair bit of road noise to consider, and the access isn't great as you have to stop on said main road to open a gate into the site. Dog noise also seemed to be a problem - The owner's own (guard?) dog barked and howled most of the daytime (although not at night) which seemed to set off anyone else's dogs on the site.
The basic facilities were clean but not always operational (I didn't manage to work out why) I would have liked the owner to have more of a presence as no one seemed to be enforcing the rules about dogs on leads or indeed making sure the facilities were working.
Overall, not a bad CL for visiting Durham perhaps a litlle more attention from the owner and a bit less noise would make it better.
