We stayed at Camping Tennsee at the very end of August, first 2 weeks of September, for 14 nights. This was our first visit to the area + our first overseas trip towing our caravan + we had a wonderful time.
The location is excellent, the views from site of the Bavarian Alps amazing, the local walking straight from site just perfect + a short drive takes you to some wonderful towns + villages.
We were pitched in area B1 which has great views although some of the pitches nearest to the lake are rather 'snug', we were luckier than others. We booked though C+CC + had been allocated our own private bathroom in the main block which had a toilet, shower, sink + bidet, real 5* luxury.
The on site restaurant is of a very high standard, there is also a marquee set up with a bbq serving roast chicken + chips with tables set up as a bierkeller. The site shop is well stocked with food + camping hardware + sells freshly baked rolls. 15-20 minutes walk from site is the wonderful Grubsee lake which has dated but well looked after swimming facilities including toilets + changing rooms.
For us the location with perfectly signed + marked footpaths straight from site was one of the highlights, from site you can walk to Mittenwald, Krun + Wallgau, all worth a visit for sightseeing + a well earned beer or 2, but the views on the walks are truly amazing. We also had day trips out to Schloss Neuschwanstein, Schloss Linderhoff, Garmisch, Oberammergau, lots to see + do.
This really is a wonderful site + a wonderful area to visit, my only reservation would be the size of some pitches, this is quite an expensive site, electricity is metered + adds to the cost but we will definitely return.

Fantastic Campsite! - The views from our pitch were amazing. The site could benefit from a swimming pool as it was a scorching 35 degrees for the majority of our stay.
All pitches are hardstanding so rock pegs are a must. (just wished we had known this before we arrived). Another point to mention, is that electric is charged per amount used and this amount is not included in the nightly pitch rate. We are not moaning about this but it would have been handy to know before we booked.
There is an Aldi and a Lidl in the Krun which is about a 10min drive from the campsite.
The toilets/shower facilities are by far the best I have ever seen on a campsite )- immaculately clean and well looked after (not a spider or cobweb in sight!). The washing up facilities are also very good (there is even a dishwasher). In the laundry room there are plenty of washing machines and use of the tumble dryers is free.
The staff were very helpful and on arrival we were given a card each to get a free drink in the bar. We did not eat in the restraunt but looking at other people's meals, they looked fantastic. We ate at the grill in the marquee area on our last night and had a really lovely meal.
The surrounding area is breathtaking. We reccomend the visits to Neuschanstein castle (about 1hr 20mins from campsite), Mittenwald - which is a beautiful place to take a wander around and the best of all is Zugspitze - The views from the summit are fantastic and we both thoroughly enjoyed being children again by tobboganing on the summit of the mountain in the snow on the free toboggans - in August!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tensee and will definitely be returning to the site as there is so many things in the surrounding area that we did not have chance to do.

This is an excellent site. Sadly we were only here for 2 full days on way to Italy. The whole site is excellent.
The pitch was close to the small stream that runs through the site. The water was crystal clear and the kids could paddle in it.
The views from the tent were spectacular.
Everything is so clean and well looked after. Fab loos, showers and hair drying. Free clothes dryer. We had our own personal bathroom. This is standard with people with children. We had no problem using the other wash ups.
Free drink at the bar. Food on site is excellent. We normally BBQ but it was so good we ate out both nights. Good Aldi about 10 mins from site.
We visited Zuigpitse on the cable car. This was excellent and my kids will remember this for ever.
We will be going back to this site - and will probably stay longer.

We visited this site in September and had a really good time, we were actually on the aire just outside the gates which is a new addition to the camp-site, its well away from the main road and has wooden bridges connecting it to the main area, the toilet blocks are fantastic with individual wash rooms with shower, sinks, benches and plenty of room, there's a really good shop with fresh bread daily and a really posh restaurant, or you can pre order spit roasted chicken and hock with is served in a marquee.
This is a very up market campsite in a really great area, its a 5 min drive to Krun or a nice cycle in about 15 min, there's a good supermarket opposite the petrol station with enough room to park motorhomes.
Theres a bus which stops outside and a nice trip is to Mittenwald about 20 min away, its really pretty and well worth a visit.
We did a cycle up to Krun then through the forest to mittenwald and then back over the pastures to the campsite with was really good, there were a couple of steep hills but it was worth the work. They sell the cycling/walking maps in the camp shop, there's also a nice lake 10 min walk from the site which is all flat walking.
We would definitely go back.

Alpen Caravanpark Tennsee is located approximately 4 miles from the beautiful town of Mittenwald (of violin fame) in the Bavarian Alps. Open all year, the campground is of exceptionally high standard and the family who have owned and managed it for the last fifty years or more do so with a great deal of care and attention to their customer's needs. It is perfectly placed in superb Alpine scenery and many footpaths/cycle-routes lead directly from the campground itself into the most scenic countryside.
You will receive a warm welcome on arrival and, if required, you can opt for your caravan to be unhitched for you, towed to the pitch you select and placed in the position you prefer. Each pitch on the main/lower level has 16 amp electricity (metered), TV, gas, fax, drain and water connections available. Pitches here are quite generous and approximately 100-120 square metres and arranged such as to provide small groups of 10-12 spaces off the central access road. Almost all of these are able to receive WiFi if required at a small extra charge. The upper area of the campground is more irregular in its layout but has the benefit of superb views over a small lake towards the nearby mountains. These have electricity to each pitch but not all have their own drains or water connections.
The toilet block is located between the two camping areas referred to earlier and is of the highest standard and finish with more than enough shower cubicles, toilets and bathrooms. There is also a superb restaurant offering a very wide menu and wine choice and the most wicked cream cakes I have ever eaten. There is dinner/dancing on some evenings.
This is a great place to enjoy walking in the Bavarian Alps, exploring the picturesque villages and nearby towns. Innsbruck is about 30 minutes away by car and Munich about an hour and half-both accessible by train if you prefer to leave your car at the campground. Garmen Partenkirchen and Oberamergau with its Passion Play are also close by.)Many excursions to places of interest in Germany, Austria and even Italy are available direct from the campground. There is no swimming pool on the campground but it is possible to swim in one of the many lakes nearby or at indoor pools in adjacent towns. The campground has one of the best web sites and will forward a very impressive brochure on request. Some of the facilities here include car/caravan wash area, dog wash room, hair-salon, sun-tanning room,a well provisioned shop, children's room, motor-home pitches and waste disposal point, storage area, chemical disposal room, self-contained apartments to let, and private bathrooms in the central building to let.
Our own experience over 5 weeks in Sept/Oct 2009 suggests that the majority of visitors are over 55 and passionate about Nordic walking. There were very few children during this period.
We have already made a reservation for May and June 2010 and can recommend this first-class campground for long or short stays.

We first visited this campsite in 2008 and returned again in 2009. This is a great campsite with stunning views. We also had our own private bathroom wih free hair dryer and vanity bar to use. The restaurant was fabulous and used also by the locals, which is a good recommendation.
The outside chicken and chip bar was good value for money and very tasty.
The electricity charge we didn't know about until we got there and had to pay on leaving the site, which was expensive. But we learned our lesson from our previous visit and did all our washing in the facilities on site and paid less than we did the year before.
We visited the fairy tale castle of Nauschwanstein (featured in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), this is just breathtaking especially if you walk round to the Mary Bridge to take photos of the castle in its full glory. Oberammergau is also a must, and if you can take a tour of the theatre with a guide who will tell you about the passion play.
We took the cable car up to the top of the Zugspitz, the biggest mountain in Germany, with views from every point, including the Austrian side.
The local mountain in Garmisch is the Wank, which can be reached by hiking or taking the cable car with a couple of bars at the top.
At the ski jump in Garmisch there is a canyon which can be reached by a short trek, but well worth the visit, once through to the other side we trekked up the mountain to the tavern at the top and came down by cable car.
My husband used to work in the area in the 1970's so we visited where he worked and the areas he used to hang out in, and we were amazed that at one of places, he was remembered and we had free Apfelcooken and drinks. The Bavarian hospitality is the best in Germany.
Would we visit again? yes we would, but when we tried to book again with our newly rescued dog in tow, we were told he had to be muzzled at all times, which we were not prepared to do, but maybe one day we will visit again.
