 This is a lovely little municipal site which is obviously the pride and joy of the village. It has 19 touring pitches (the most they could fit in I suppose) and looks quite new. It has very good facilities which include a laundry, and what appears to be a games room with a small bar in a corner, although these were locked up when we stayed overnight on our way north. It has chalets for hire as well.
When we arrived a lady appeared and shot off some very rapid French. The only word I caught was 'douche', said in a questioning way from which I assumed she would unlock the facilities, which she duly did. She might have been telling us where to pay as well, as there was nobody in reception, either later in the day or the following morning, so we still owe them.
St. Amant is about 8 miles from Ambert, down in the valley and a steep pull, but worth it. The local shop has only very basic provisions and there is no garage, so make sure you bring food unless you want to pay EUR 12 each at the local restuarant. Ambert has a Lidl near the turn off to St. Amant and there is a garage near here too.
