We stayed at la Boutinardiere for 2 weeks during the last week in June and first week in July. It is approx 380km drive from Cherbourg taking about 6hrs including breaks.
We have a touring caravan and 2 adults and 2 children ages 3 and 14 travelled. We travelled with friends who have a campervan. The reception staff were friendly, very pleasant, helpful and had good English. Even though we arrived after reception closed we were able to get a fob for the security barrier and gain access to our pitch. The site felt very secure and safe for children with security guards patrolling the site at night and the barrier is locked from 11pm - 7am nightly.
The site is a predominantly French site with very few Irish/English families staying but those we met were friendly. There is a bar, restaurant and some entertainment at night plus a kids club but we did not avail of any of these services.
There are pitches both behind the reception area and closer to the pool complex. We found that those near reception were very isolated and poorly tended with the grass being very long and the toilet facility consisted of a porta cabin ! However, the pitches near the pool area were fantastic and toilet /shower / wash-up facilities etc were excellent and were well maintained. The pitches are a good size to suit larger units.
The pool complex is excellent and suited all ages with 4 outdoor slides and 3 indoor slides plus 3 small kids slides in total. However, there were no lifeguards on duty until the 1st of July where the rule of men and boys wearing speedo swimming trunks was enforced!
There were good changing and shower facilities at the pool also. Both the indoor and outdoor pools were heated.
There is a large very good sandy playground and a small play area beside toilet facilities. There is also a basketball/soccer court, 4 table tennis tables and an 18 hole crazy golf course which costs 2euro for hire of clubs. The is also a small games room beside reception.
There is a very small shop on site but it was very expensive and lightly stocked. The large supermarkets are within 3km of the site.
The surrounding area is very suited to cycling with designated cycle routes to both Pornic and Bernier-en-Retz. These towns are lovely and picturesque with sandy beaches close by.
We hope to return again next year.

Stayed here first 2 weeks of June 2012 in our Motorhome. Overall this in our opinion was a good site, and we will likely return.
It is very close for the beach and with cycles you can easily cycle safely using the cycle routes into Pornic which we think is super town.
The site itself is clean and a very good pool complex. Pitch was good (35) and electricity 10a available. Paid for water and sewage but not sure why, as the brochure appears to suggest that these are optional extras and pitch specific, they are not. However there is an easily accessible motohome fill up and disposal point by the main block.
Pitches were rather thread bear and worn out looking and hedges somewhat unkempt, shop not open properly till later in the season and poorly stocked.
Toilets and shower block clean. We did not use the restaurant facilities but we were advised that the quality of food was poor.
Swimming pool outside heated to a comfortable temperature and much enjoyed by our daughter as was the indoor complex. If there was a bit more attention to maintenance of the Pitches and hedges, stock and open the shop in June this would in our opinion be a great site.

La Boutinardiere reviewed by Tommies is quite accurate and informative which helped us to book and visit the site for 3 weeks in August 2011. What I will add to this is that we have a twin axle caravan and just getting to some of the pitches is impossible without a mover and certainly most of the pitches are too small for a twin axle, full awning and car.
The most cost effective route we took was Portsmouth>Dover>Calais>drove for 6hrs, stayed over in an Airs, travelled for a further 2hrs to arrive on site of which you cannot get on until after 12:00hrs and must leave by this time as well.
Upon arrival we were offered two pitches which were ridiculously small and on a steep slope with no turning capability for a large van, we refused these and were just about to leave and go find somewhere for our 3 week stay that had larger pitches. One of the staff came over to us on his bike, took one look at our van and gave us another pitch to look at which was free in 1 hrs time.
The pitch was large enough so we booked that, getting onto the pitch was more fun and the locals did help us push the van into position. The weather was great for the time we stayed with only the odd day of patchy rain. August was very busy with every pitch occupied, towards the last week in August most of the locals started to move off.
There are no facilities to directly hook up your water supply but there are plenty of water points, the waste water point was a mystery to find, and emptying of toilet was at one point only in the middle of the site. The electric hook-up is standard euro plug and the mains polarity is not reversed so same as UK.
The site does not cater for the English, nearly all signs, instructions, flags flying are French, Dutch, German, Spanish, however most of the staff did speak English. We can get by speaking in French so it was ok and we do like to make an effort to speak French. Most of the shops either on site or off including large supermarkets close between 12:00-14:00. There are plenty of facilities on site and towns and markets close by, fuel stations close as well, self-service in August 2011 for Diesel was 1. 26 Euro vs the usual Shell etc @ 1. 45 Euro per ltr, Local stations Diesel is Gazoil.
If we went again, which we will, we would either go at the start of their season or towards the end as the weather is pretty good throughout their season of opening. One thing we will do is pre-book a pitch we feel is a must. We stayed on pitch 326 which was just large enough for our outfit to be pushed on, if you have a mover even better. Largest and best pitches in our opinion are: 324-(Best Pitch 325)-326-327-328-329-330-331-332-333-334-335-336-337-338-339-340-341 forget the rest unless you have a small outfit and a mover!

La Boutinardiere comprises two areas – a medium sized quieter area and a larger, busier area containing the bar and swimming pool complex. All of the pitches appear to be of a generous size, some larger than others. In September, most were devoid of any grass and several were somewhat bumpy. Some of the pitches near the swimming pool complex have no shade and are poorly separated from each other, but generally they are bounded by tall hedges and some trees. Approximately half of the pitches are occupied by permanently-sited mobile holiday homes.
There is an excellent water park for kids, including a large swimming pool and a flume. There is a play area adjacent to the site.
There is an extensive bar area with terrace adjacent to the swimming pools. A reasonable selection of meals and take-aways is available here. There is a small shop on site. We visited this site in the low season in September and the bar area and the swimming pool complex were still open, although the shop was closed.
The site is a couple of miles out of the town of Pornic and there are no shopping or eating possibilities nearby. However, Pornic has a couple of large supermarkets and many cafes and restaurants.
A short walk down the lane at the back of the site leads to an extensive, secluded sandy beach. At low tide, there are many rock pools. There are no facilities at the beach, but it is only a five minute walk from the site.
There are ample, clean, modern sanitation facilities, but no toilet seats.
There is free of charge, unsecured wifi available in and around the bar area.
The reception staff were polite and helpful.
We would revisit this site, as a couple, out of season. However, I would guess that it would also be a great holiday for families with kids, without having to venture too far from the site.
