 We used this site as a stopover going south so only stayed 1 night. It now has its own little snack bar and small shop in a newly built reception block. Very quiet and rustic with grass pitches. Electric points may need long cables. 2 decent toilet blocks and a small pool. Restaurant down the road now closed.

This is a very nice little country site we stumbled across high up in the hills near the village of Loubeyrat and the town Chatelguyon in Puy De Dome.
This is a very laid back site with good facilities for it's size (about 60 pitches I'd guess). The main field is nicely laid out and slopes down from the entrance, there are wooden chalets on the right and pitches on the left and bottom. The chalets blend in nicely and aren't intrusive. There is a further overflow field with no chalets to the left.
At the bottom of the main field is a good (but cold !) swimming pool, about 15m by 8m or so. There are 2 table tennis tables, a volleyball net and a small playground, all of which are free. There is 1 old but adequate toilet block, and a superb newer one in the overflow field. Both are kept clean. Pitch prices are ridiculously cheap at 10 Euro per night for a tent pitch for 4 (not including EHU).
The pleasant site owner (who speaks no English whatsoever) has an Auberge 100m away which does great fixed menu French country cooking quite cheaply - 3 meals are more than enough for a family of 4. Lots of locals arrive nightly to eat here, so it can't be bad.
The only thing I could fault the site for was the lack of any shop, which meant you had to go down (and hence up!) the hill (with great views across to the Puy De Dome) the few km to Chatelguyon for a supermarket. Chatelguyon is a nice town with the air of a genteel old resort. Nearby Riom is the nearest big town, and Clermont Ferrand isn't far away either.
This being the Auvergne, the weather is liable to change very quickly - and this site is quite high up, so be prepared for possible mist and/or storms at any time. However, when it's raining here, chances are it's sunny a few miles away.
If you want to chill for a few days in the countryside, wander up to the inn and stagger back again and can speak enough French to book yourself in, then you'll not be disappointed. Hopefully we'll be back some year.
