We chose this site for a September stay because it is situated in the lower area between three big mountain ranges, consequently the temperature (both day and night) is significantly warmer than sites higher into the mountains. As it happens we got brilliant weather, sunny, warm and dry.

Pitches are large and most have a slight slope, often on terraces. The grass was in very good condition and was kept neat. Mature trees provide shade to most areas of the site. Water is from standpipes dotted around. Electricity appeared to be available to most pitches.

Loos, showers, wash up basins etc. Are in two big blocks each with separate areas for men and women. Facilities are mainly 'English' style. They are kept very clean, each block being closed for an hour each day for a thorough clean. Washing machines and driers are available for hire. Showers and wash up bowls have hot, free water.

The bar serves drinks and, I believe, food during the main season. There's a pizza 'hut' at the gate to the site that was certainly operating whilst we were there. Order bread from the bar or office for pickup next morning.

There are two pools on site, a paddling pool and a swimming pool, both were clean and enjoyable.

The office staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a car tyre severely punctured (no spare). They insisted on helping us remove the wheel and drove us around the local garages trying to get a new one. Luckily we found a dealer able to supply next day and the owners took the phone call and drove us to collect it. Service above and beyond expectations.

There's a fairly large Intermarche within walking distance as long as you're not carrying heavy bags, but easier to drive. Fuel at the Intermarche is close to the cheapest in the area. There is also a Carrefour fairly close if you want to go a bit more upmarket.

The local town is Vizille which has a fair bit of history attached. A visit to the chateau is a must, the gardens are stunning and there are longish walks around the estate if you want. The museum is interesting and, amazingly, the whole thing is free.

As said before the site is at the junction of three separate mountain ranges, each with its distinct character. There are dozens of potential walks both high and low level. Lac Lauvitel was our favourite although hard work. A circuit of Lac Luitel is much easier but still interesting.

Visits to some of the high mountain passes is a must and combine it with a visit to the Alpine garden at Col du Lauteret, it was pretty good in September, it would be stunning in spring/early summer.

You are very close to Grenoble here so go and ride the cable cars up to the Bastille and have a walk around. The city itself is a sophisticated university town with shopping to match.

We spent 9 days at the site and didn't come close to running out of things to do. We are very likely to return in future years.

Great location just outside the town of Vizille which is hugely linked to the French Revolution, so there's lots to see.

The campsite has large pitches, most with some shade, each not far from the large toilet blocks. These areas kept very clean and there are many showers that are free and always hot!

There's lots of room for the kids to run around and the pool is clean and perfect on those hot days. There's also a play area which when we visited could done for with being updated, but not enough of an issue to worry about.

The bar serves good food and of course wine/beer and has entertainment regularly. There's also a pizza shop at the entrance. France isn't cheap generally but the campsite facilities are not any more expensive than local places.

There's a fair size supermarket in walking distance too.

Would definitely go back. Without doubt.

I stayed at this site for a couple of nights as part of my Route Napoleon motorcycle trip. It's a pitch-where-you-like-and-pay-when-someone-turns-up kind of site. The grassy tent area is not to Wimbledon standard but is perfectly adequate - a little uneven and the grass was a bit unkempt during my stay. The amenities are British-style (thank heavens!) and the site is a favourite for Dutch caravanners, so there's always someone to talk to. It has a take-away pizza facility which was great and, when we were there, a huge, very tame rabbit which plonked itself outside your tent and wanted to share your dinner! It's a short drive to a large(ish) supermarket with fuel station and only an hour away from L'Alpe d'Huez of Tour de France fame. Would recommend as a base or for an overnight stop.
