Our family of four spent 7 peaceful nights here in June 2016. It was our first time camping together as a family so we wanted to meet everyone's expectations as best as we could. We were not disappointed.
I'm going to admit that I'm not a huge fan of camping in general, but conceded to do so for the love of my family who were keen to try it out. Despite my hardest resolve, my family will tell you I had a good time and I don't think we could have had a better camping experience, and this was
Rosguill is far enough away from the hustle and bustle of cities and towns to make it feel like you're in the middle of nature. Yet it's close enough to the basic amenities and interesting sights that you don't feel completely removed from society.
We weren't there during high season, but there were always a few campers and tents pitched, and it increased over the weekends, understandably, but the other campers were well-behaved, friendly, and helpful.
There is a small golf putting green on-site but alas it was too windy for us to avail of this (a good reason to return). There were also two children's playgrounds within walking distance which kept the kids happy.
The two toilet rooms each had a wonderfully powerful shower that was 2Euro/2 minutes (my only complaint with the showers were that they cut out after 10-15 seconds and the button had to be pushed again which was awkward while trying to shampoo long hair. It may not have been so bad, but the timer continues while the water is off). The rooms were cleaned each morning and were the best public toilets I've seen in some time. You need a key to access them which means only fellow campers will be using them.
There is a small room with two sinks for cleaning up the dishes. There's also a toaster and small fridge which is really a lovely touch - and a nice way to meet fellow campers when everyone heads there for their morning milk or to wash up dinner dishes. Wonderful travel stories are exchanged over soapy water and tea towels.
There is a laundry room with 2 washers and a drier that could use some updating, although it does the job. It isn't generally open until the high season but due to unforeseen circumstances we needed to do some washing and the attendant allowed us access. The prices were somewhat steep at around 6 Euro a wash (using tokens you purchase at the office). The machines fit a regular-sized sleeping bag and some clothing so they're a decent size.
The pitches themselves are a generous size and we took full advantage of this with our large tent/guy lines, car, table, camp stove, bikes, and we still had a little wiggle-room. The grass was cut short and the ground was on a bit of a slope, but without any major bumps or depressions.
We had an electrical post for the week which worked well, and the water post was a safe distance away, ready with fresh water for cooking or for the kids to refill their water bottles.
There is a small creek running through the grounds. There is a low fence alongside it (these are where the posts for electric and water are). So if you need to use the washroom in the night, it's best to take a flashlight along. There are street lights within the campground, but at the time of year we visited there were loads of slugs out at night and you'll not want to slide upon one.
The beach was reached along a beautiful wooden walkway and past the sand dunes. Should one of your children awaken you in the night and you can't go back to sleep, grab a camera and catch the sunrise - you won't regret it. The water was calm and the kids had a great time walking along the shore spotting various types of shells that had washed up. During low tide you can look into some crystal-clear rock pools in the ancient lava flow at the end of the beach.
There are also several other beaches within walking distance or a short drive away. Each one is uniquely beautiful. Some are peaceful; while others are more wild.
Our first day was pouring rain so we stayed in the tent and played games, but for the remaining days we went somewhere different each day. From lighthouses to workhouses, there isn't a shortage of fun and also educational places to see.
For more information about what we did in the area (and where the locals to to get the best fish and chips) while staying at Rosguill, please see my blog posts (In the end I enjoyed our camping experience so much I wrote a total of 4 posts):

Now I am truly torn about what to do next year. I love to explore new areas. But I don't know that we'd find a campground to match this one. I do see Rosguill in our future again.

I think it is important to start this review by bearing in mind that this is a three star Campsite. We have just return from staying for 2 weeks on this site and loved every minute. The Campsite is in the middle of a triangle of three Static Caravan areas, just front of the Pitch & Putt Golf course and then the beach beyond. If awards were given for location and views this site would be the highest ranked in Ireland in my opinion, it is just stunning. Facilities on site are fine, there are two toilets on the Campsite area, one for male and one for female and each includes a shower. Most of the times these were clean (Cleaned each morning). It is important to note that no Toilet paper or Soap is provided so you must bring your own each time. We put together a little wash bag with this and also put the Key for the toilets in it so we didn’t forget each time we went. During our two weeks the site was busy but not over crowded, apart from the weekends when it tended to get a lot busier. There are two camping areas one each side of a small shuck/stream which runs down the middle of the site so please watch out for this if you have to go to the toilet in the middle of the night, best to use a little torch.
This is a great little site and one we will be coming back to year after year now. I have already recommended the site to many friends so hopefully continued business and success we only mean this site gets better and better.

Stayed here in mid July for 8 nights and had the most amazing time.
The park is mostly statics but don't be put off by this as the area for tents and tourers is opposite the main park. The facilities were clean and the warden was very helpful whenever we needed him although this was not very often.
The area is stunning and the beaches are in my view some of the best in the world.
My 4 small children never stopped from morning to night playing on the beaches and rockpools. No need for dvd's or psp's!
Downings and Carrigart are only a short drive away for all essentials.
I wasn't going to write a review on this site as I thought of keeping it to myself but there is no point in being selfish.
If you are visiting Donegal then this is the only site that will take your breath away and make you return again and again.

On arrival we were greeted by the very friendly warden who issued us with keys for the facilities and advised us where to pitch our tent.
The camping area (tents, touring caravans and motor homes etc) was located across the road from the office in a field overlooking a beach. The view was fantastic.
The warden was on duty from 10am – 6pm. If you are arriving later, give him a ring and he will accommodate you.
The facility block, which was kept locked, was located in the static caravan area behind the office on the other side of the road. It was small and compact. In the ladies there were two toilets, one shower (which was kept locked) and four wash hand basins. No toilet roll was supplied in the toilets which was a bummer (excuse the pun) and there were no paper towels supplied but there was a bottle of hand soap at one wash hand basin. The gents were similar but with one urinal, two toilets and one shower.
We were told on arrival that the showers cost one euro and 2 or 3 euro would be needed per shower. The meter boxes are not located in the showers but a few steps away at the main entrance door. The meter starts running as soon as the euro is put in so you need to get ready first and then dash out to put your euro in! I think one euro is supposed to last 3 minutes but the shower lasted for ages, I was beginning to wonder if I had put 10 euro in! I had to turn it off in the end much to the disgust of my male companion who barely got 2 minutes in his shower and only managed to get his hair washed! We wondered if it was a fault but his second visit to the shower was similar.
The laundry room contained various machines which we didn't require on our stay (washing machine, dryer etc). The campers' wash up sink was located here also. There was no sign of a freezer to freeze ice blocks and we weren't told there was one so we assumed there wasn't any. We didn’t need one on our stay. There was a table and some stools in the laundry room for campers to eat at but there were no cookers.
The facilities were very clean and tidy at all times.
There was a tennis court (hard pitch) in the static area and the warden told us that it was free to use and the equipment could be got from the office. There is pitch and putt between the campsite and the beach; this could be booked in the office.
This is a small site in a beautiful and peaceful location. Just look at their website to see the views that you will wake up to. There are other beautiful beaches nearby also. We stayed for two nights and we’ll definitely be back. There was no shop on site but milk could be purchased in the office. Don't forget your toilet roll and towel when using the facilities!
