You are allowed to pitch where you want in the small clearing in the wooded area of the pub site. The clearing is on the small side, website states room for 5-6 tents but on our stay, only 4 tents were pitched & another group of campers had to pitch in the pub garden in the end.
The site is dominated by a very large fallen willow tree so you have to negotiate your way around & through it to pitch & access the site. The clearing itself is very very uneven & is just a mudded area, sloping quite steeply down to the river. If the owners were to level and grass it, it would be much better.
Also there is no direct access down the river bank & you are obstucted by a huge wall of nettles! The area has been weedwacked but loads of new nettles were growing when we pitched which made for very sore ankles by the time we had pegged out the tent.
Tarpaulin under the tent is a must otherwise the nettle stalks would poke through & saves your tent from being ruined by the mud. Rained the second night & during the day we grew 4 inches by the mud we accumulated on our shoes, mine were binned when home.
Nearby A6 road didn't cause too much noise problem, still got a sense of being in the middle of no where.
You have the use of the pub loos during hours but our fellow campers preferred to use the surrounding trees! I think because of the nature of this site it is open to abuse & disregard by some campers who just don't care about others or the surrounding area.
The kids scavenging for fire wood were stripping trees and uprooting anything they could. Such a shame, we thought we had stumbled across a little oasis at first glance only to find it turning into a warzone and open latrine with no intervention from the very busy staff.

We spent 2 nights at this camping site and to summarise I don't think I'd had better time camping anywhere else in UK!
Specifics:
The site is behind a large country pub. There is a smallish pitch enough for about 5-8 tents. It is all surrounded by trees, which gives a sense of being 'with the nature'. A river is right next to the pitch, which makes the place feel very peaceful. Log fire is allowed, as well as fishing. There is fish in the river - caught about 4 or 5 within about 30 min. The fact that the site is next to the pub makes it a safe place to be and it gives all the facilities of a pub. Friday and Saturday nights are busy but it does not affect the quietness of the site. There is some noise from A6 but it is not a busy road. The staff are very helpful and above all non-intrusive. You are just allowed to get on with your things and if you need anything - they are there to help. In theory there is shower facilities when B&B rooms in the pub are not in use - we haven't used it, so could not comment. Other facilities include badminton court, outdoors chess and a very friendly dog 'Lady' :) All in all it is a perfect place for those who like 'proper' camping with tents and who don't need to be 'papered' or regulated.
I did not score 'Child Friendliness' because we did not have any children with us.
