Bourg d'Oisans is an area well known for cycling. We stayed here for several nights as we were with a friend who was competing in La Marmotte.
Needless to say a think we were the only non-cyclists on the site!
We stayed on this camp site with a small tent. Electricity is advertised as free but as a result for those non-electricity users you are charged over the odds for the pitch. Most of the cyclists had complicated tent sets ups with electricity so were fine. We were told the charge was high due to being high season but looking in to it you are basically paying for all services even if you do not use them.
The toilet/ shower facilities are unisex and rapidly got dirty (especially the toilets) as one toilet block was closed the whole week and the camp site was full. There are 5 blocks in total. Also be warned that cleaning of the toilets and showers seems to occur simultaneously across the site. I got up one morning at the same time and had to wait 15 minutes before being able to go as they were all closed at once. I even got told off by 2 attendants who were cleaning who told me to go elsewhere even though I explained to them they were all closed. This may have been a one off but I expect to be able to go to the toilet.
The camp site has a very nice swimming pool, child play area and also has a small bar from which you can purchase bread in the morning. It is 5 minutes walk from the Casino supermarket and about 10 minutes walk from the centre of Bourg. Bourg has all the expected amenities from a small town.
There is climbing and via ferrata close by. You can access the higher alps by cable car or foot from close locations if you want to do this.
If you are a cyclist, using electricity and all the facilities this place is probably fine to stay but for the simple tent people that we are it was not worth the money.
