We chose this site because of the lake. The weather was very hot and we needed a beach! The lake is picturesque; the beach large and sandy, a large grass area to sit and also shaded areas under the trees. There is a spacious playarea for the kids on the beach. The lake is open to the public and it gets busy in the late afternoon.
The campsite is set on a wooded headland up from the lake - a few minutes walk. We chose a quiet spot right at the top of the site. There are 3 toilet blocks and washing up areas. It took us quite a while to choose a pitch as the site is quite large and we deliberated over where the nicest spot would be! On arrival we were given a map of the site showing all available pitches. There are some lovely plots over-looking the lake especially if you have a small tent but all shapes and sizes of unit are accommodated. The shade of the pine trees were a welcome relief from the hot sun and we strung up our hammock between 2 trees. Bliss. Surprisingly there were very few insects. We only met one large beatle. John Lennon I think his name was. Oops, I mean 'beetle'!
The facilities blocks were modern and airy but not so clean, mainly due to people not clearing out their hair from drains after having a shower and leaving remnants of their dinner in the sinks! I didn't see any cleaners. We stayed for 3 nights.
There is a large concrete football/basketball area next to the reception but I'm not sure if there's a playpark actually on the site. There is a cafe/bar area next to the beach with access from the campsite. We found the young guy on reception to be laid-back, friendly and helpful and had a typical french attutude, and rightly so, of not speaking English until we'd proved ourself worthy by making an effort to communicate in his language first!
Many people use this site as a stop-off as it's in a very accessible position just off the A20. All nationalities were represented. There were also many 'active' people with their kayaks and the couple in the tent next to us never seemed to take off their walking boots. Hammock and flip-flops for us!
We used the large Intermarche at Bessines-sur-Gartempe for supplies, about 20mins away, but there are smaller shops nearby. Nothing on-site except you can order bread/pain-chocolat to be collected at reception in the morning.
We paid around 14Euros for 2. I think this is a municipal site (or used to be) as it has that feel about it. We found it very peaceful and relaxing. We would return again to use for a short-stay. I rate it highly due to situation, atmosphere and locaton. Our older kids would love it but I think I may have found it challenging keeping an eye out for younger children.

Fantastic site, very good value stayed for 4 nights and had French bread and croissants added to the bill which only came to 76 euros. Staff spoke english well and there is some entertainment in peak season around the beach bar/restaurant. We just enjoyed the surroundings and fab beach. And as the previous review stats not many bugs. Mainly because its too cold in the winter months for them to survive. The toilet /shower blocks were very good and clean too. No need to book as there are pitches everywhere and its up to you where you want to pitch up. 4th time to the region now and the weather through july /august is always good. Will be back again next year
