Lovely quiet site. Entry is via a single track lane shared by a number of holiday cottages which could be a problem if you meet another unit. Fortunately we didn't.

Clearly marked water and chemical toilet disposal areas. Site has wifi which the firestick picked up.

Sockets for TV aerials at each hook up point but we didn't need it as the caravan aerial picked up all the main channels.

Convenient for Settle, Skipton and Embsay Railway.

Would use again.

Our second visit to this site, basically five pitches in a line overlooking a field. Very quiet and peaceful, the farm that the site is on has a games room and play park for the kids, which is great.

Basic set up with water and toilet point at one end of the field, EHU close to each pitch. Easy to find but the track by the farm to the caravan pitches could do with a bit of patching as there are some holes. No toilet/shower block but that's what the caravan is for.

Location is pretty good as its only a short drive from Settle and the Three Peaks area. We'll definitely go again as the location is perfect for us and it's well maintained, peaceful and good for kids.

At £15 a night in the heart of the Dales, you can't complain!

About 4 miles out of Settle. Very basic CAMC CL, no toilets or showers.

No-one calls to collect money, you are expected to go the house after pitching which means a walk of about 500 yards.

At £15 it's expensive but on a par with other similar sites in area.

Overall this was a lovely site, with nice views over a field (containing some very entertaining lambs!).

The whole place was well kept and the kids (11 and 8) loved having the play park.

You can't see the play park directly from the caravan bit, but it's fine for kids a bit older who can walk themselves there and back.

Definitely would go again! Settle is lovely, check out Malham Cove, Ingleton Falls and White Scar Caves if the weather turns on you.

A lovely little quiet site - quite basic as stated by previous reviewers, but the views are great.

Note of warning - don't rely on your sat nav to get you here. Ours suggested we turn left along Hensley Lane. Ignore this and continue past the 'Horse Spa' and it is clearly signposted on the right.

The site is a great centre for walking. We like to park up and set off from a home base - this site gave us ample opportunity to do this.

We will be returning - especially as the site is open all year.

My second stay at Layhead and I have just got to say this is a wonderful little CL. I have a large twin axle and have had no problem accessing the site, it is a little tight to the entrance, but not a problem if care is taken.

As CL's go this has all that is required, EHU and easy access to water and elsan point (although a little basic).

The main selling point for this site is if you have kids, about 300 metres away there is an excellent games room, outdoor play area and football pitch.

The area it's self is just lovely with easy routes to Settle and the rest of the 'Three Peaks' area.

Would endorse all previous reviewer's comments. Site very tranquil and peaceful with lovely view - especially down the lane of Pen-Y-Ghent and Inglebrough. Owner very friendly and helpful. Large trees were a bit scratchy for large units.

Pitches are flat and overlook fields of sheep and cattle. All pitches have electric hook up.

Water and chemical disposal are at entrance to camping field.

Settle is within 3 miles for all shopping.

Great base for walking and site seeing in the Dales.

Also felt fee was a little steep for basic certificated site with no facilities (£14 per night) but would return.

Very basic site for £14. 00 per night.

Tap and drains too far from pitches.

Access too tight for large twin axle caravans.

Owner very pleasant but told me site was suitable for my Hobby van when I booked.

When I arrived at the entrance, after travelling up a very narrow lane I find a dog-legged entrance up a reasonably steep incline with nowhere to reverse. I managed to access the site but the rear of the caravan hit large stones in the verge causing several hundred pounds worth of damage. The owner accepted no liability for her misinformation.

Would not recommend this site

I would highly recommend this site. It is still a working farm, although many of the buildings in the grounds have been converted to holiday cottages.

The view from the area set aside for caravans is as good as we’ve ever seen although we were also lucky to have been there during the lambing season. The site is set back from the main road and I was happy that it was safe enough for my two kids to wander around exploring.

There is a playground with swings and a climbing frame, and a games room with a table-tennis table, pool table (albeit not working during our stay) and table football. There were also a selection of DVD’s and videos to borrow, and also a Playstation that could be borrowed!

The whole site is clean, tidy and well maintained. TV reception is poor, water and chemical disposal points were close to the caravans and were well kept. There are facilities for recycling glass, etc.

The site provides a list of recommended walks in the immediate area, each lasting around half an hour and suitable for anyone, providing you don’t mind getting muddy feet.

There is also a ‘farm shop’ in so far as there is an extensive list of items that can be delivered to you by the following day, mostly consisting of local produce that was very reasonably priced.

We found access to the site to be via good roads, especially from the M65 at Colne. Whilst this area doesn’t appear to be bristling with tourist attractions (the peace and quiet is the main attraction), I would recommend Malham Cove on a sunny day; it is about a half mile walk from the Visitor Centre which has a pay-and-display car park.

Settle itself is popular with motorcyclists at the weekends who congregate in the market place.
