Not a very impressive site -the first words uttered by the receptionist were 'we are closing on Friday for the season' -it was advertised as being open until end of sept but this was not the case.
There was a huge storm while we were there and some poor people were flooded out of their tent - we were higher up so not too badly affected. The ground became very bog like.
The pool was locked up, it felt very tired.
BE WARNED if you have a large motorhome they will charge you an extra fee -they charged us 100 euros extra on top of the site fees -we are 9.5
We would not rush to stay here again. The only saving grace was the town and the beach - it is a delight. Twice weekly market, lovely restaurants and bars, very pretty. Good train links into La Rochelle.

Amazing. A real camp site no static vans pitches were flat some shaded others in sun none of the pitches are far from toilet block which is in center of site plenty of sinks washing up/clothes washing/food washing you need it the sink is avaliable. The swimming pool is like having your own private beach, its surrounded by sand with sun loungers, safe enough for children to use blow up dinghys with out the fear of them drifting out to sea. The site as play area for children which includes bouncy slide.
The beach is about 15 minute walk, town/railway station about 20 minutes away. This year there was 2 markets held Tuesday/Friday, the town as alovely indoor food market.
We caught train to LA ROCHELLE it only cost 11 euros return for 2 adults, overall a lovely site in a perfect location.
(one down side we heard site as bought another 2 plots of land lets hope they don't spoil site by making it to big).
Out side entrance to site they have a motor home service point.

Excellent ACSI site, clean toilet block and site. Good selection of pitches, very level with lots of shade if required. Especially suitable for older people late and early season. Reception staff where very helpful. Very close to beach and a nice gentle flat walk along the front into town. Good for buses into La Rochelle. Local market in town once a week.

My husband I stayed on this site for a week. The facilities were second to none. I would say that this is the best site we have ever stayed on. It is within walking distance of the town, beach, shops, restaurants bars and the casino. There is an aqua park near to the beach, we didn't try it out. There were cycle paths on all the pavements. The swimming pool on the site is brilliant, we couldn't believe that there was sand. I took photos on my phone and to look you would swear it was the Caribbean. The shower and toilet block was very clean, there were sinks for every occasion, not just dish washing but, salad, fish, vegetables. All of these sinks were labelled. We can't speak highly enough, would be happy to recommend this site to anyone.

To Find Site:- Leave D137 at Chatelaillon Plage exit and at roundabout take fourth exit back under D137. Take road towards Angoulins and Camping L’Ocean is signed on the left.
Camping L’Ocean is in a residential area on the edge of Chatelaillon Plage. There are 97 pitches all of which are for touring units. Pitches are on grass and are of a reasonable size divided by trees, although they tend to be longer than they are wide. Electric points are rated at 10amps and use CEE17 blue connectors, although it might be wise to check for reverse polarity. Water points are dotted around the campsite although the only grey water disposal is at the toilet block. There is no motorhome service point. There is one central toilet block which is of a nice standard but contains a mixture of Standard unseated and Turkish toilets with no toilet paper provided. Whilst the toilets are unisex the showers are separated male and female. There is good provision for dish and clothes washing sinks, including a couple of lowered ones for wheelchair users. The site does have a bar/restaurant although this is only open in July and August but bread can be ordered from reception from 1st of June. The campsite has an interesting fresh water swimming lake surrounded by a sandy beach with ample sun loungers. For children there is a small playground as well as table tennis tables. Site wide WiFi is available at an extra charge. Reception is closed over the lunch period but there is ample off road parking outside the barriers. Outside of the peak season the site accepts the ACSI discount card.
For many the advantage of this site is its closeness to the sea which the campsite claim to be a 500 mts walk away although personally I feel that is an optimistic estimate although still walkable. Chatelaillon Plage has a lovely long traffic free promenade which can be used by walkers and cyclists. There are also many other cycle ways near to the site. La Rochelle is not far away as also is the Ile d’Re. For those not wishing to use their cars there is the alternative of public transport and the railway station is within walking distance. For shopping there are a couple of small supermarkets in the town with two larger ones on the outskirts.

Nice clean campsite, great pool and helpful friendly staff. Good size pitch but the water points are only pressure taps so this can be a problem filling a water tank on a motorhome, we like to use our own shower. No motorhome service point and nowhere to dump grey water (you have to drive to an aire in the next town) even though we have a waste hog on wheels as the grey waste was in a sink and too high to lift.
There is no TV reception on normal aerial. ACSI book said it has a special motorhome services, IT DOESN'T, it has a bar and take-away but only open in July and August Ten minute walk to a beach and nice prom walk. Some road noise on site but didn't hear the clay pigeon shooting as mentioned previously.
