La Prieure is a spacious site. As well as pitches (with or without electricity) for tents an caravans, there are also a number of cabin type gites, which are open all year. Access to the site is down a 2km single track road. Some of the pitches were very grassy, but ours was more patchy.
The facilities were the best of any of the French campsites we stayed on during this trip (see reviews of Les Oliviers and La Camassade) - the (unisex) toilets had seats AND loo roll! Given that it was early season, only one of the two shower / toilet blocks was open - this had 2 loos, 5 sinks and 4 showers. All very clean. There was also a washing machine.
There was a small swimming pool, a tennis court, a table tennis table and a small children's play area. Freeze blocks were exchanged for a small fee. Bread could be ordered for 8am delivery by putting your order on a list the previous day (a good thing to do as the village was 3km away).
The on site restaurant (open July and August) was excellent. Not a great range, but a decent three courses for E16, or a steak for E13. A carafe (75cl) of wine was E8.
The owners were helpful if asked questions.
Despite what it says on the website, however, there is no TV - which wouldn't normally have bothered us, but husband wanted to watch a couple of World Cup games.
The site's surroundings are spectacular - the sun,for example, doesn't get onto the site much before 9am because it's got to get over the top of the nearby mountain first! The dominant sound is that of cowbells. St Martin, the nearest village, doesn't have much in the way of facilities.
For a small supermarket you'd need to go to Guillaume, about 12km away. For hiking, the area is great - when you get above the treeline, it's particularly fantastic - it being early July, there was still lots of snow at around 2600m (but the air temp meant that only a T-shirt was required).
Lots of cute marmots running about. The site's height, at about 1050m, meant that it was cooler at night than the other places that we stayed, but that just meant that the fleece on top of the airbed became a fleece on top of the sleeping bags - and it warmed up quickly in the morning.
The only downer was caused by being plagued with flies the first day that we were there (and on one of our hikes nearby), but they died down around the site after that first day.
I'd definitely recommend this site - particularly in early July when we went, as it was still quiet, but the restaurant was open if you didn't fancy cooking. I also think it would have been a bit cold before that
