Do not stay at this site in a twin axle caravan or motorhome. Their website states exorbitant prices for twin axle caravans but not motorhomes. They tried to charge us 69. 60€ for 1 night in our twin axle motorhome despite my emailing them 2 months earlier to check for availability. Their website does not mention twin axle motorhome prices so I successfully argued the case and got the ACSI rate however all in all it was a very unpleasant experience and we will not e returning.
Regarding the site itself. Watch out at the entrance gate as it is very tight: make sure you get your angle of approach correct. There are pitches to suit all sizes of units on grass so beware in very wet weather.
Water on site is an annoying push button standpipe which takes a while to fill anything plus you cannot attach a hosepipe to it either as there is no thread. The shower/ablutions block were standard offering although the shower was only lukewarm when I used it at 8. 00am the next day.
There is a pizza restaurant next door but we didn't use that. The access to the river is fenced off so would be safe for kids.
By the time we had sorted out the price for our stay it was past 4 o'clock so we didn't have time to check out the local area. I am led to believe that there is a nearby tram into town though.
NB Motorhome owners: there is a very usable aire in the centre of Besancon which you may wish to look at too.

Excellent travelling by tram into Besancon. Great on site facilities, showers, loos etc. Local restaurants poor but good Carrefour and Besancon in 20 minutes by tram.
Due to the mass hysteria about corona virus probably didn't see the town at it's best but the dusk and evening bird scaring is a bit off putting for this particular human.

Another stopover on our Tour de France holiday. The site is really on the edge of Besancon between the river and a dual carriageway. The site was full the night we stayed but it was quiet and there were no queues for the loos/showers - which were numerous but in terms of cleanliness, I'd say they were adequate. The site staff were very helpful and friendly.
Our pitch was large and grassy and surrounded by hedges but our evening was spoiled by a neighbouring group of German lesbians whose BBQ went on for ages and the stench of lighter fuel filled the evening air.
This was a useful stopover site but not a great location for an extended stay.

We spent a few days here after torrential downpours so we didn't do too much walking, exploring of the immediate vicinity which is on the eastern outskirts of Besancon, on the banks of the R. Doubs. There is a children's play area but this was flooded at the time! The camp is next to a swimming pool, boating and sports facilities with free/reduced admission - again, we didn't try these because of the weather.
The site is large with electric hookups for each pair of plots. Enormous toilet block always clean with gentle piped background music. And toilet paper. Recycling facilities for glass. Snack bar and a sitting room with very helpful, informative staff.
We pre-booked by internet - failed to work with the English-language form but worked on the second attempt using the French form. The site tended to fill up in the evening, mainly with overnighters en route to Switzerland &c.
Besancon is a spectacular town well worth two or three days exploration: most impressive is the Citadelle (massive fort on a hilltop) which contains a zoo, urban farm, various museums &c: a good day's worth of activity. There is a reasonable Italian restaurant opposite the camp but many more restaurants, bars &c in the town: especially on the Place de la Liberation.
