Stopped off for three nights on our way home from Croatia.

Fairly basic campsite next to a river. There are no marked out pitches and it was a bit crowded.

Toilets/showers were basic but clean and there was a small shop and a good restaurant/terrace.

The town of Eberbach is a five minute walk away via a bridge over the river. Plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants in the town and a railway station where we got a train to Heidelberg which was fairly cheap. You can also get to Heidelberg by boat but it's more expensive.

Would go back as somewhere to stop over but wouldn't spend more than three of four nights there.

Situated on the river, opposite the town of Eberbach, a few miles from Heidelburg.

The location of the site is ideal for walking into Eberbach town. It also nice to have the river view. However, what websites and photos don't show are the noise from the road (and river!). There is a road behind the site and a main road directly across the river. Although not motorways the road noise is noticeable.

The site is well maintained. Despite heavy rain the grass wasn't muddy. The facilities were immaculately clean. Toilet paper, soap and hand drier available. There were plenty of showers, with free hot water. The ladies had one free hairdryer and free plug sockets if you brought your own. The shower block was always lovely and warm - I think it may even have had underfloor heating! There was also a small kitchen for washing up, though it also had a couple of hotplates campers could use. I also made use of the washing machine, for which a key can be obtained from reception. She only charged 3Euro for wash and 3Euro for tumble drying it all, very reasonable in my opinion. We visited the Greek restaurant on site one evening. It was good food and reasonably priced, I recommend it.

The town of Eberbach is a fairly typical Germany town. We found the tourist information centre and followed it's recommended route of historic sites. When looking for one site - Berg Eberbach the number on the map was a little misleading, a Mercedes garage appeared to have replaced where the castle was on the map. After following a few very discretely located signs and a mile walk up hill we found it! Well worth the treasure hunt to get there. A fantastic view and lovely to have a look round, even if it is only a ruin.

Unfortunately the tourist information didn't explain what significance the towns pigs have (can be seen around the town), nor that the town has a Vineyard producing some excellent wine - which only discovered later in our trip! If I were to return to the area I'd also visit nearby Heidelburg as we didn't have time on this trip.

Overall, a well maintained site. However it wasn't quite to the quiet riverside campsite opposite a sleepy historic town I had expected. More a busy modern town with some historic buildings, with the campsite directly across the river.
