Reviewers - mature couple with campervan and bikes.

Just an update as there hasn't been a recent review. We stayed here overnight as we wanted to revisit the town. It was extremely busy, we were told we could only have the allocated pitch for 1 night, and we must leave by noon the following day.

The pitch was gravel, I think most are. It took us ages to find the EHU point, it was through the hedge and down a banking below, rather tricky to connect up.

I do find the sanitary facilities here rather inadequate for the number of people staying, we were constantly queueing. However the pool was welcome in the hot weather, and we enjoyed our visit to the town.

This site is not in the ACSI discount scheme, so is rather more expensive than I would wish to pay.

We arrived with our 3 teenage children for a week at this site. The reception was very friendly and we were allocated a very large pitch with a great view. The facilities at this site were outstanding with 4 pools, flumes and slides. Large play area, bar, restaurant and play village. A small shop with fresh bread in the mornings if you area prepared to queue.

There were 2 toilet blocks which were unisex, take your own toilet roll. The showers were push button type and with some you only got a few seconds. A 15 minute walk takes you into the beautiful town of Vaison La Romain, don't miss the Tuesday market. The Medieval town is also worth a visit. There is a large Intermarche hypermarket and a Super you 5 minutes drive from the site with cheap fuel at the Intermarche. The Gorge Du Verdon is very near and I would recommend the white water rafting bookable at 'Aboard Rafting' in the town. Site was occupied mainly by Dutch and Belgian with some French and British also. Great site would certainly come back.

We thought we'd pay a visit here again this year, now with our campervan.

The lunchtime closure of reception causes quite a bit of traffic activity, people queuing up outside the barrier to check in, others going out, and the exterior car park quite busy. However once in, the receptionist spoke good English and was friendly and efficient. We were allocated a pitch in the touring area which was fairly flat, but quite gravelly, fine for our van.

It was quite dark at night walking round, you need a torch.

We investigated the pool area further this time, there are 2 slides, indoor and outdoor pools plus an outdoor toddler pool.

We cycled into town as usual. There has been more excavation in the New town, which is where the old Roman town is situated. The Roman areas are now vast, and well worth a visit if you are interested in such things. You can see a certain amount from the roadside, but there is a charge to get into each of the 2 sites.

Other than that, there is no change from my previous review, we enjoyed our stay and would use the site again, though it is moderately expensive.

Vaison la Romaine is situated to the east of the A7, and north of the Monts de Vaucluse. This campsite is on the main road about 1.5k outside the town in a rural setting. You approach it up a steep drive, there is car parking outside the gate because when we arrived at lunchtime the gate was closed. Once open, the reception was efficient, and we were allocated a pitch. When we found it, it was too hard for our tent, so we asked to change to another more suitable.

The pitches are in terraces, and seem to be mostly gravelly, but there is an area of grass, I think it was out of use when we were there. There are lots of chalets in different sections of the site.

The toilet block is in the middle, it has a rather twee 'Roman' theme, as do the road names. The facilities are separate for men and women, except during cleaning, when you have to share, they seem to close each section for some time. Washing up is in a separate room.

Over the other side of the site is a pool with glass walls that can be pushed back, plus an outdoor pool and slide I think. There is a snack bar in the area too.

There is a path from the site which takes you across a field then you cross the busy main road and follow the road into town, about 15 mins by bike.

There is shopping and restaurants in town. Town is on 2 sides of the river, one side is an interesting hillside mediaeval town, and the other side is a more modern town, but with a large Roman ruin site in the middle. You can pay to enter the Roman site, but can view it quite adequately by walking round the perimeter.

In the vicinity are the attractions of Provence, including a troglodyte village at Barry, which is free to visit, but a long pull uphill!

We have used this site more than once and it is moderately priced. The thing that lets it down for us are the pitches being rather hard for our tent.
