Please note we have been advised that the campsite at this location has closed, and no longer offers camping, motorhome or caravanning pitches, although the pub itself is still open. If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks

This was our 2nd time out in our motorhome. We arrived spoke to someone in the bar and told to pitch up anywhere only 1 hook up left so that's where we pitched, we had to ask again for water point which was hidden behind another motorhome there are a few long term caravaners there. Not a problem at all. We went to look for the bins and and where to empty toilet cassette, which was a manhole cover with string to lift it up. Bit basic. This is when we encountered dog mess by one of the caravans some of which had been there a while. Pub was busy during the day more than night no real noise late at night so that was a plus side. We sampled the food which was cooked well and was good and staff who we met were nice too. Hubby wanted to go fishing, one of the reasons for booking this site. The canal side by the pub was enough to satisfy his needs lol plenty of scope to venture out if no transport of your own with a great bus service every 15 mins to Oxford. Over all this is a good site for a stop over

I booked 3 motorhomes at this site after looking for a site near to a classic car auction, found it via UKCampsite.co.uk. Found their website and looked ok. Spoke on phone to owner who seemed agreeable so gave credit card details. Arrived on the Friday, and were shown to field to pitch. Ground solid and there were 2 caravans also pitched, one looking derelict. Ate there that evening, very good curry. On the Sunday night went to book food but although menus displayed we were told that kitchen closed. Went to settle bill on Tuesday, told by owner that fees were £14 and not £10 as shown on website. When I remonstrated with him he said that website was irrelevant and then walked off. Did not get bill and did not see him again. Later found that website prices had been increased and that my credit card had been charged with the higher amount. Now in official dispute with card company ! Apart from the owner, who makes Basil Fawlty seem the model of good behaviour, site not bad, except for rubbish left out and a few rats seen. Moral - do not leave your credit card details in advance !

My partner and I have stayed on this site twice now, Sep 12 and again over the New Year. The normal field was available during our first stay and although full there was adequate space to manoeuvre and set up. The pitches are fairly level, only requiring minimal adjustment for a level van.
Our second visit was just after the heavy rain in December and we actually pitched up on the car park. Not a problem but it did make for an interesting departure as the pub was very busy over lunch time. Electric hook up and water are readily available but the chemical disposal at the rear of the pub is a bit basic and quite a tight squeeze to get in and out of.
Location would be difficult to beat as there are a number of pubs and shops within 20 minutes walk of the site, 5 minutes to the local Co-op and the canal walk to Oxford is beautiful in sunny weather. Road and train noise are noticeable but not a problem, can't say I heard too many planes during our stay.
The pub food and ales are good quality and value but on both occasions we stayed the kitchen was not open every night- worth checking beforehand. There is plenty to do and places to go in the area within a short car ride. Will probably use the site again.

The name ‘The Highwayman Hotel’ should have given us a clue but I guess we weren’t paying attention. Unlike the previous reviewers we were disturbed by not only road, but train and airplane noise. The owner and staff were friendly and the field was level. We only shared with one other motor home so there was plenty of space. The walk into Oxford along the canal from the site was nice and Oxford itself well worth the trip. The toilets are not available between 11pm and 7am so probably best to have one in your van. Shops and other pubs about about a mile away. Take your ear plugs is my advice, but a handy stopover if like us you are travelling from Scotland to the south.

This small campsite must have been part of the pub garden at one time as evidenced by the plum trees - laden with ripe fruit which we were able to enjoy.
Units would be quite close together if all using the hook-ups, but there was more room away from the electricity points. True, there was traffic and train noise, but this did not spoil our enjoyment at all.
The play area was fine for our 3 year old grandson and we enjoyed walking along the canal.
WCs were available in the pub and were very clean - it did seem a bit odd going into the bar just to use the facilities, in fact my other half usually felt he ought to stop for a drink!
The pub seemed very quiet but served two good real ales from local breweries, so suited him just fine.
I would mark it higher for child friendliness, except that the playground was the other side of the car park from the site, so I would not have let our 3 year old run back and forth on his own. For slightly older children this would not be a problem - and they could walk around the grass at the edge of the carpark to get there.
