This is a very simple basic site, which is how it describes itself.
It has well built and maintained composting loos which was novel for me having never used them before.
There's water and Elsan disposal too but not much else.
For me, the best part was that it's only a few hundred yards from the Swanage Railway station though if you want to come back late in the evening when the trains aren't running you'll need a good flash-light to guide you down the lane for the 20 minute walk from the nearest bus stop.

We love this camp site! It's close to home but far enough to feel like you're on your hols. We are a family of four with two active children so the park across the road gets plenty of use by us.
Great local attractions within driving distance (or steam train)
Its our second year here and to our delight there were two new wonderful hot showers and the porta loos had been emptied the day we arrived (busy bank holiday weekend).
We managed to park next to the railway track on the flat part of the field and the children had great fun waving (and the adults) at the passing steam trains.
It was also great to find out that Harmans cross station had reopened this year so we booked the event 'roads to rail' and went to the local steam fair, passed through corfe castle and then into Swanage and back.
The site is basic but we aren't a family that needs luxury and are experienced campers so it was fine for us. Be prepared for the washing up area being very basic in the form of a cold water hose.
We love our fire pits and roasting marshmallows so this is another reason for choosing this site.
There is an Elsen point but it was a shame to see our next door neighbours (party of 8 x tents) dumping their porta potti at the back of their tent the morning they were leaving. I don't think they were people that I would call 'seasoned campers' but more 'COVID campers'
There's a lady on site that cooks pizzas/burgers/breakfast buns but we didn't use it so can't provide any reviews on that.
Would definitely recommend and will be returning next year.

Sadly due to Covid restrictions we had to cancel which was such a shame but the owner was very understanding and we WILL book again with her in 2022.

Had 3 days here, price now is £7. 50 per head, portaloo type toilets very smelly and nearly full, one homemade type shower.
I would say for the money that is charged this could be so much better, there must of been over 100 people on site each of the days we were there.
A few large villages of people bit noisy from them.
Would I recommend this camp site. No not now. Price's gone up but not the services.

Another lovely visit to the Railway Campsite last weekend when it was supposed to be blowing a hooley! Luckily my favourite far left hand side top of the field corner was free, complete with hedges for windbreaks. It was a little blowy, but I didn't care. It is a cheap, fairly wild and absolutely fab site. Roll on next year!

Stayed here several times over the last few years.
Totally basic site with common sense 'advice' not rules.
1 out door warm shower and a few loo's dotted about.
Their website doesn't do it no justice sadly
Brilliant campsite yards from the railway track with steam trains going past all day, 100yds from the railway station and ideal for trips into Corfe Castle & Swanage.
A bit hilly but plenty of flat spots. Site is not over shadowed by trees so perfect all day sun and night time stars
It was going to close for 2016 but have now heard it will be open for 2016

Just spent a really enjoyable weekend at the railway campsite. I'm into a quiet location and happy to participate in basic camping. It's a massive field, with 3 toilet cubicles dotted around the field with one unique shower cubicle, which although doesn't look much, was perfectly adequate and better than some showers I've experienced in hotels. Water taps are dotted around the field, which is handy. We chose the top of the field so we could see the trains running at the bottom of the field and observe the majestic scenery. The owners are a really friendly and happy to share their local knowledge of walks, pubs and other things to do. We were also able to stay in the field as long as we wanted on the day of departure, which is an added bonus. £10 per night for the two of us seemed reasonable considering the amenities. I'm sure we will be back.

I love this site and wish it were open longer!I had stayed here a couple of times before this year and managed a couple of visits this year, each time just for one night. The site is dog friendly(I have 3 dogs so this is important to me), the grass is kept short, the portaloos have always been OK on my visits but I can't comment on the new shower as I haven't used it!It is basic, but that is what it is advertised as being, but it is only £5 per person which is a lot cheaper than the other sites around. Plus you are not put under any pressure to leave by a certain time. It is not always easy to find a flat spot but the same can be said for many sites in the Purbecks. The site owner is lovely and grows fab veg that you can buy and if you are lucky has eggs too from her various fowl! You can walk to the train station and get the train to Swanage or Corfe or watch the trains go by from your tent. It is peaceful, quiet, basic but cheap. I love it!

We discovered this site on route to another site, and thought the location was ideal. As it was approaching bank holiday and we had not booked in anywhere we decided to try it out.
The site is very hilly but there are plenty of areas to pitch on level ground. We found the site very friendly and relaxed. We did not use the portaloos or shower but thought they were useful facilities for anyone without their own.
We were charged £10/night which is excellent value. The site owner was very friendly and informative.
The steam railways borders the site and the station is only a very short walk away.
An excellent site in a great location
We will definitely be returning to this site.

We arrived on this campsite at 10.30pm on the off chance. It was very empty and we had only been there for 10 minutes when the campsite owner came round to collect fees.
It's £5 per person which I think is massively steep considering its just a field with several portaloos in it and water taps and no other facilities.
So if there were a family of 6 it would be £30!
Like I said steep.
Luckily because we had arrived late they charged us only £10. There were one adult, two kids and a dog in our group.
The positives are that it's in a lovely spot, right next to the railway line so you can see the Swanage to Corfe steam train on a regular basis. It was also very quiet which is always a bonus esp in school holidays. The toilets were clean as much as they can be for portaloos with paper available.
If there's only two of you wanting a bit of peace it's a good one.
