Please note we have been advised that this site has closed, and no longer offers camping, motorhome or caravanning pitches. If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks

We visited for an extended family camping trip involving aunts, uncles, brother's, sisters, parents, grandchildren 4 and 21 months. We had two 6 man tents, the Buccaneer caravan, and 1 one man tent.

Overall a good time was had by all round the camp fire, Kids playing freely and enjoying the animals and freedom. Weather lovely. Facilities very very basic and not ideal for more than a two night stay.

We were prepared for the wheelbarrow's and long walk to the area for camping but think the owner would do well to improve the experience with provision of more than two barrow's (one of which was on its last legs), as on the Sunday when we left there were a total of 10 pitches packing up to leave with only two wheelbarrow's between us.

The wild, rugged nature of the farm and site is great for kids and a feeling of getting away from it all but if the sand pit is for kids to play in then think the surrounding area should be kept nettle free and maintained by using a covering and borders.

It felt like there were a lot of don't do rules which made us all feel a bit uncertain at times, like don't pick the fruit, don't go in the bluebell wood, don't enter the gypsy camping site (by surrounding it with a white electric fence to keep us regular campers out!)

I didn't feel the site was overly expensive but given its very basic provisions I think the inclusion of wood in the portacabin to heat the single shower would feel like a warmer welcome for campers. One final thing.

The owners wolf hound, a lovely and amenable dog, roamed free which meant having to dodge her poo, again if the owner made some effort to clean up after her pet I think it would again make campers feel more welcome.

Generally my family and I was left feeling like an unwelcome guests.

Just returned from a lovely weekend at Bouncers after seeing it recommended in the Guardian.

Arrived within the 4 - 6pm window (a phone call is required if you intend to arrive at any other time) and was met by Ann the owner, a couple of geese, a very friendly horse, a very big dog and two much smaller ones.

Ann gave us a wheelbarrow so we could transfer our bags, tent, sleeping bags etc from our car to the campsite (about a 5 - 10 min walk depending on how much you're carrying).

The campsite is level but a little bumpy so we chose our pitch carefully. The area is littered with trees which meant you got a lot of privacy no matter where you camped. There was also a tyre swing, tree platform and communal fire pit. Oh and some pigs who will eat any food you have left over (the pigs are kept in a fenced area).

The campsite has a small but clean toilet block with two toilets and one shower. There are no bins, soap, hand towels or toilet roll so bring your own. There is no electricity on the campsite so the shower has a wood fired boiler (it took us three attempts to get the water to the recommended 40 degree heat - but it was fun trying and the shower felt earned).

Campfires are allowed on site, either in the communal fire pit or by your own tent - providing you have a fire bucket or other such device that keeps the grass safe (we used an old satellite dish on bricks). Wood is for sale on site - £5 for half a wheel barrow, £10 for a full one.

We took the 20 min walk into the local village and found the local pub (which we didn't try) and the one stop shop (stocks the usual).

We went to Bouncers to do 'not a lot' but we did head to Mersea Island and walk along a very windy beach before sampling some locally caught fish. It's well worth a visit.

The campsite was £15 per tent per night plus £4 per adult (first adult is free) and £3 for under 16s. Our dog was free :D

Only downside was the lack of bins, we had to take all our rubbish away with us. For £22 per night a bin or two would be appreciated. And maybe some toilet roll!

All in all a lovely little site, just the right distance away from civilisation.

My 2 young sons and I were the only people camping on the two nights we stayed in March half term! Don't know why? It was chilly and wet but we had a good time nevertheless.

The camping area is about a 5-10 minute walk away from where you park your car - so go prepared to use the wheelbarrows the owners provide to wheel your kit to the site, past the horses, chickens and pigs.

The owners are very friendly, their lamb chops are to-die-for, their pet dogs are great fun for the kids (always looking for tit-bits!).

Fires are allowed - though you have to buy a (big) barrowload (£10) from the owners - so no real issues there!

They hold a weekend camping Opera festival during the summer which we would have gone back for but couldn't organise ourselves in time.

The toilet block was being built while we were there and I imagine its now fully functioning and adequate.

Overall a great experience - just be prepared to take onto site only what you actually need - the barrowing gear back and forwards is not ideal.

We stopped here for 3 nights arriving Friday. When we arrived it didn't take long to see that this is a fledgling site, no shower block or toilets, a haphazard pricing structure and wood slightly overpriced.

The owner is friendly and very helpful, she will take orders for basic groceries, newspapers, meat and eggs, all of which are sourced locally or from the farm, not from the supermarket.

(The croissants on Sunday were wonderful)

The site is beautiful, quaint gypsy caravans in the top orchard and lovely variety of trees in the bottom orchard including a huge willow with a tyre swing and a treehouse in the wooded area behind the site. There are pigs, sheep, hens, geese, horses and three dogs, Connie, the wolfhound is very sweet, Alex and Bishop the Jack Russels are getting on but really soft with a lovely temperament.

The local area is great for walks, the roads are quiet and public footpaths easily accessible. Local pubs do food and the supermarket near The Mitre in Wickham Bishops is basic but you can stock up on essentials.

This was a relaxing trip, but more work needs to be done to improve access to the bottom orchard and a basic shower block and toilets away from the farmhouse would feel less of an imposition. The only toilet and shower were in the main house, not really fit for purpose. (The toilet didn't lock)

Water was not an issue, with a standpipe for drinking water near the large firepit.

The vehicle entrance to the lower orchard area was very tight turn to get into. Once through there was a large area of very unlevel ground which had been hard standing for a mobile home meaning that you could not easily get onto the site. Thus we had to hand carry all our gear onto the site. Leaving was worse as you have to reverse out.

There was only one other camper who had arrived a few minutes before we had. Fortunately he was a helpful chap, and agreed to move his pitch slightly as we were worried that we wouldn't be able to pitch our 8 man tent due to the lack of large pitches. We found later that there is a third area with a little more space, below the top orchard.

There is a large communal firepit, but for those who like to have their own fire there were no clearly marked firepits in the lower orchard.
