Lovely site though some traffic noise daytime. Beautifully maintained.

Good wash facilities, were able to choose own pitch. We went to those around the lake as they were bigger.

Very convenient for Perigueux, Bergerac etc.

Good walk from lakeside pitches to rest of facilities but they are very good. Food available on some nights, bar, drinks etc on the terrace where I think there was free(?) WIFI.

This is a site I had not visited in over twenty years when I used to visit with my family. Lestaubiere was a favourite meeting point for about a dozen British families and I had fond memories of swimming in the lake with the chateau in the background.

Returning was a surreal experience as it has not really changed in any major way.

The site is laid out around the central area that comprises a Bar & Terrace with an L shaped swimming pool and toddler pool adjacent.

To the right of the pool is a large grassy area with a playground and to the left is the lake which has a small man made beach. The lake is suitable for swimming and has a platform in the middle that is very popular with children for diving off of into the water below.

The bar is small and rustic with a seating area, an open area that hosts the weekly kids disco and an activity table with a large amount of Lego/Duplo.

There is also a library which Dutch and English books for campers to make use of.

To the rear of the bar there is a games room with babyfoot, pool and table tennis.

Drink prices are reasonable for France with a half-litre carafe of wine at 7. 50 euros and a pint at 4. 50

The terrace area overlooks the pool and is nicely shaded – it is out here that a set menu is served during the week.

Pitches:

There is a choice of pitches – the new field has trees which provide a small amount of shade but you will find yourself chasing it as the sun moves across the sky. The pitches around the play area tend to be rather sloped, one side is in full sun and the other has some shade. The other camping area is up in the trees and is shaded with a small amount of sun on the pitches. All of the pitches are a good size and we saw caravans of all shapes and sizes.

On the new field there are also 4 mobile homes and 2 safari tents, and although we didn’t look inside we were told by people staying in them that they were very impressed.

Facilities

There are three toilet blocks on site, the largest being on the new field. Showers were generally hot and powerful, although once in a while we had a slightly cooler shower! The other blocks are in the forest and next to the bar area. All are kept very clean and in good condition although none have any soap in the hand wash areas. Toilet paper is provided!

There is also a good sized laundry room in the central complex although I am reliably informed by my wife that the ironing board was bit rubbish!

For the Children

Apart from the pool, lake and play area, there is an activities team made up of Dutch students who put on activities during the day including Boule contests, water games, arts and crafts etc. Our kids loved it despite being the only ones who could not speak Dutch!

Types of Campers

When I last visited 20 years ago, the site was a mix of British and Dutch with the odd French family. On my return we were the only British family there. However as the week progress a few more arrived – including one person I had not seen in 20 years – the last time we visited. There is a good mix of people there from young families to retired couples. The site is generally quiet with campers sitting did sit outside the tent with our neighbours sharing many bottles of wine.

Date of Visit: June 2011 Unit:  Motorhome

We stayed here in June 2011, in fact we were here for the longest day, June 21st.

Check in at the site was a breeze - friendly staff with very good English. We were told to choose our own pitch and enjoy our holiday.

We had a meal at the site restaurant, reasonable prices and good quality food.

The toilet block was modern, light and very clean. The showers were good and hot with plenty of space.

It is a bit of an uphill trek back to the site from the village, but it is worth it, a very pleasant walk. The village has a good shop and there is a cafe come restaurant opposite the shop where we enjoyed coffee in the mornings. There is also a hairdressers in the village.

The site has large swimming pool and smaller pool for tots.

The site has great views over the surrounding countryside. Thoroughly recommended.
