A lot of campsites promise 'real camping', 'lots of space' and the 'chance to get away from it all' but this site actually delivers. We shared 2 camping fields in the Summer holidays with just 7 other tents. Yes there are only 2 long drop compost toilets, 1 shower and 1 washing up sink but there are some lovely touches to make your stay comfortable - a barn to dry your towels, a fridge and freezer for your food and drink, wood for your open fires, trampoline and swing for the kids and plugs to charge up your phone (not that you will have any reception). No tokens or coins needed just good old fashioned honesty - pay for what you use. Really friendly helpful owners. There are supermarkets only 20 minutes away in Helston and we recommend the Golden Lion Pub at nearby Stithians Lake for a meal out.

Driving down the valley in the small windy lanes gives a real sense of the wilderness and beauty of Cornwall and on the reaching the campsites top field the beauty is enhanced by an amazing panoramic view. The campsite is back to basics with limited phone signal (heaven), compost toilets and everything built out of reclaimed and recycled materials it is a real ecofriendly environment. Great for children with a trampoline, swing, push along toys, bubbles, games and plastic beasties! There are chickens and goats and if you ask the owners you can help feed them and collect the eggs (which you can also buy) it is quite something frying up an egg just laid that morning! Owners are very hospitable and we found the barn a great place to dry our tents for the day before heading home in the evening.

Planned to pitch tent but ended up with a couple of days in one of the lovely cosy yurts, great to restore morale after being rained on elsewhere. Stayed on in our tent having dried it in the barn, great to have some dry space with a few books etc. Owners were lovely, really helpful and friendly. Children liked the goats, wild bunnies and the swing, we loved the beauty, peace and quiet, oh and the owls!

I've just got back from 5 days of Yurting at Netley Farm. The site is just lovely, small but big enough that you have space and privacy and the owners are keen to keep it that way.
The yurt was fab. It has a fold out futon so you have a sofa and a bed, a wood burner (chopped up wood is free) a gas camping cooker and a gas light. You get a wooden box (that can also be used as a table) full of everything you might need, plates, wine glasses, washing up bowl, tin opener, bottle opener, knives, cutlery, frying pans and pots with lids.
I went as part of a couple in a very rainy August and it was actually rather lovely to sit in a nice warm yurt and look out the open door at the terrible weather. If we had been in a tent it would have been vile.
The site has compost loos that are really well constructed and easy to use. A covered area with tables, recycling bins and a sink, a power socket so you can recharge your phone, books and kids games to borrow. There is also a communual fridge and freezer you can use.
The only downside was the lack of a shower, this is on the way though and when it is put in will make this one of the very best camping sites I have ever been to. At the moment there is a solar shower rigged up in the shower area, privacy from a tarpaulin and a door you can lock and if it's not sunny the shower has to be filled by the kettle. Or you can drive 5 miles to Helston leisure centre and use theirs.
Around the area, 15 minutes away is the local pub, we had a pint there but didn't eat, though the food looked good. A longer 2 hour walk away is a reservoir with another very lovely pub, both sell real ales and food and the second one had an impressive wine list.
I had a really good time at Netley Farm, despite torrential rain in the middle of the summer. I'd love to go back and hope to again next year.
