Winter Wheels

During the winter months or for prolonged periods of time when your caravan or
trailer is not being used, there are certain checks and routine maintenance that

Amongst the jobs to do, caring for your tyres is a very important aspect that quite often gets overlooked. If left for long periods of time, tyres can begin to crack around the edges making them unsafe for use on the road, and leading to costly replacements. |

If your caravan is not used for a length of time, one option is that the wheels and tyres are removed and stored. Once removed you can then fit a set of Winter Wheels to your caravan, ensuring that your caravan wheels and tyres remain undamaged. These are steel stands which take the place of your wheels, on which the caravan can safely stand for long periods.
There is an argument that this can also be a highly effective security device, as any potential thief would have to bring his own wheels. However if you are going to use Winter Wheels we strongly suggest that you contact your insurance company to ensure that you are still covered, as some companies insist that the wheels remain on the caravan and a wheel clamp is used.
Whilst off the caravan, the tyres should be left at normal inflation pressure in a cool, dry place and protected from sources of heat and direct sunlight. They can be covered with a natural material (e.g. essian) for protection, but not plastic / tarpaulin. |
