What a wonderful site! We are a family with 2 children (aged 6&8) and a small dog and found this site perfect for us. It is a small site, but with sufficient facilities to keep the children entertained (with other friends they made on the site) and have the freedom to explore and roam the site safely and with easy access to off lead dog walks directly from the site. We also found the location of the site perfect for exploring south west cornwall with most towns, attractions and beaches an average of 20 minutes away. There are closer beaches, but not dog friendly unfortunately. Anyone going with a dog should try Gwithian beach (the middle section) - fantastically big for dogs to run free :-)

There are brilliant shopping facilities nearby - a Lidl about 5 minutes away on the nearest side of Helston and a 24hr Tesco just the other side of Helston. There's a good local pub (Crown Inn in Crowntown) that's a 20 minute field walk away (although this was a tad overgrown so we chose to walk the 25 minute route around the lanes instead but still a pleasant walk)

The site is made up of a lower level for tourers/tents and an upper level predominantly with the 7 static caravans. The lower level contains the washing, toilet facilities and outdoor shelter, games net and field and the upper level contains the children's climbing frame/swings/table tennis table under a marquee.

We can't really criticise Poldown. Wash room facilities are excellent with washer, dryer, fridge/freezer, ironing board etc; outdoor shelter perfect for adults and kids to socialise; pitches, although a bit on the smaller side, are well laid out and separated by shrubs; and toilet/shower facilities, although may be not the most modern, are cleaned regularly and have everything you need (including lovely spacious showers so easy to take the kids in with you!)

All in all, if you want a quiet, relaxing holiday away from those busy, facilities focussed, commercial sites, this is the perfect site for you.

Thanks Gilles and Nelly and we hope to see you next year!

Lovely small site in a sheltered spot with mature trees and well set out pitches. We liked the fact water was provided on every pitch and the picnic table was useful. The toilet blocks were small but well maintained and I never had to queue despite every pitch being occupied. The layout around a central area made for a very friendly site and we got talking to lots of the other campers about good beaches to visit etc.

The kitchen area was an added luxury, we were particularly grateful for the undercover veranda as a shaded place to eat and relax as we stayed during a heatwave.

About ten minutes from Helston, Porthleven or Praa Sands so well situated for exploring the area. Very child friendly with an excellent play area as well as a badminton net in the centre of the site.

We've stayed at a number of sites across the South West and this has become our new favourite. Definitely recommended for families and couples looking for a quality site to relax at.

What a little gem of a site, our arrival was a little bit fraught as unfortunately access to the site wasn't as clearly marked on the site plan as it could have been and I took the wrong access road for my pitch and ended up having to reverse about 300 metres including a fairly tight bend no mean feat with a 26ft van, however that said once we got on pitch it was superb, the touring section is in what can only be described as a flowered Dell sheltered from the winds surrounded by beautiful landscaping.

Only 12 pitches so never seemed cramped or noisy and the facilities although a little dated were well cleaned and supplied with oodles of hot water. They even supply a kettle and microwave for the benefit of campers in the covered over patio area outside the amenities block. Its location provides a good base for touring West Cornwall and is well worth considering as a site, Please However be aware of tight access for large touring vans

Loved this site! It is a small quiet site but has all of the facilities I would want from a much larger site. It is sheltered by large trees all around and each of the designated pitches is large and nicely separated from its neighbours by shrubs or fence rails.

The owners were friendly and seemed keen that their visitors had everything they needed.

The toilet blocks do seem at first to be too small (there is only one shower, two sinks and two or three toilet cubicles for each sex) but in the six days we stayed this was never an issue - possibly because the majority of people staying were in caravans and perhaps used their own facilities more.

The covered eating/sitting area, complete with complementary microwave and kettle, was a nice added touch since we were able to cook and eat in relative comfort when it rained.

Will visit again but will definitely book ahead because it is a small site and seems to have a lot of regulars.

This site is a gem. Good pitches, good facilities. Friendly helpful owners and manager.

As we were 2 adults it was good not a lot of children about but it was quiet and shaded from any winds. Toilet block was kept clean and plenty of hot water and toilet roll. Large shower and changing area. Washing and drying facilities with a fridge/freezer to use if needed.

Nice undercover area to socialize if desired with kettle, barby and even a fire if cold. In an area with loads to visit and good beaches.

Could not fault it, even had a soap dispenser at the chemical toilet point.

Would like to go back again when I re-visit cornwall

I'm glad I can across this little site. It's a wonderful spot.

It has two levels, we stayed on the lower part.

The toilet block with shower is nice and clean, it has a nice small laundry area should you need. Also an under shelter area with free TV, Microwave and even a kettle should you wish. There are also the use of there BBQ with bags of coal for sale for £1.

We have stayed here for two nights on a hard standing no 5. You get plenty of space and a grass pitch next to you hard standing.

A lovely place to come back to next time. Thank you to the owners.

A beautiful site. Well maintained with lots of thoughtfulness for its campers. A microwave and kettle even provided under the outside bbq area. Very clean.

Each pitch was flat and sheltered with well thought out shrubs, bushes and trees.

The owners were friendly and Manager Richard was always on hand to help out.

We consider ourselves lucky to have found this idyllic little spot. Very reasonably priced.

Only downside maybe in peak times the 1 shower may get busy. A thoroughly enjoyable stay. Reminded me of childhood camping holidays

This is a little gem of a site. We were there just before the Easter bank Holiday actually leaving on Easter Saturday.

The Site is quite small having 13 pitches about half fully serviced. We are new to touring always staying in statics previously and spotted this site through uk campsite, its location being the key as you can hit most of the main Cornish attractions in a 45 minute car drive.

We had the site to our selves for the first few days which was just as well as we needed the adjacent pitch to work out the Krypton Factor awning with no instructions! Luckily Richard the Site Manager (who was very friendly)gave us a hand.

Our 4 yr old son loved it running around and making friends when other campers arrived. The facilities were very clean and the water hot.

My only minor criticism is that there was no effective heating in the washrooms, not a problem in July but it was close to freezing at night when we stayed. I could also imagine there might be a wait for the facilities in the peak holiday months.

Overall we loved it and will definitely be going back.

Stayed here over the Easter weekend.

A very small site with only 15 pitches, don't really count the statics as they are quite separate from the touring pitches.

Considering the size of the site the facilities are really good, toilets and shower all clean, washing up and laundry facilities all as you would expect, the use of an electric kettle and microwave was very handy - meant we could have a cuppa while we set the tent up! Only down side was that the freezer was broken and hadn't yet been replaced, luckily(?!) it was very cold out so we managed without freezing ice packs!

While we were here the site was not busy, there were 2 caravans and one other tent, which was a bonus for us, meaning we could stretch out over 2 pitches. Our tent is large and I think we would've struggled to fit on a pitch if the site had been full.

We never got to meet the owners at all, the site seemed to be run by a manager who lived on site in his van, he seemed friendly and helpful.

We left a night early, not because of any problems, but simply because heavy rain was forecast!

The rates were reasonable, so good value for money.

We might stay here again if we were in this area of Cornwall.

We booked a week at this site at the beginning of September and found it to be small, quiet and exclusive - ideal. It rained every day but it didn't stop our enjoyment even though it became muddy and waterlogged - the rain was very heavy but the owners are working hard to improve the drainage.

There is no shop but in Helston there is a Tesco's and Sainsbury's and all the usual town centre shops.

The weekend we were due to leave was forecast with gale force winds, so we asked Gilles if we could extend our stay for 4 days, although we had to move the van to another pitch as the serviced pitch we were on had been booked.

The winds weren't as bad as we had thought they were going to be and I am so glad we stayed as the sun came out the second week and the full enchantment of the site was seen.

The site is hidden in an old disused quarry, so we were told. The owners - Nellie & Gilles have worked wonders with it and it is surrounded by trees, bushes and flowers. The pitches are flat and spacious and they even provide picnic tables around the site.

There is a static area at a higher level containing 7 static caravans for hire, a permanently sited tourer with awning, which can also be hired and the lower area is for tourers and tents. The toilet facilities are adequate for the site, are very clean and the showers are big and free to use.

There is a washing machine and dryer and a big sink for washing up and another for hand laundering for anyone who wants to use it.

Outside the washing area is a covered barbeque space with a microwave, kettle and I think there was a toaster - brilliant idea for campers or caravanners who want a barby or for visitors to have a get together - bring your own food and drink and have a social evening.

I have never seen these facilities provided on any other site and I have been caravanning many years! Children are not forgotten either and there is a play area, covered table tennis and a badminton/volley ball net. Pets are welcome and a walk provided for their exercise. There is also

A free to use Wi-Fi connection, which is good.

While we were there we met other caravanners who come to stay for three weeks or a month and had been coming for years - it truly is a lovely, tranquil, well cared for site and a real sunspot when the sun is out.
