A Really nice quiet site. Our three kids loved it, and made friends with the children in the tent next to us and enjoyed playing table tennis with them on the table provided.
The facilities were very clean, and sufficient for the number of people on site. The pitches seemed to be separated into pairs split by hedges and were just big enough for our Quebec DLX and still have room for our trailer and and a picnic table.
I loved the tranquillity of the site, we didn't try the walk to the pub but maybe next time. Also there appeared to be broadband available as there was a router in the laundry washing up room, but we didn't have anything with us to prove it worked. We loved this site and will be back but for longer next time.

We stayed at this site during half term with our 3 children. What a gem of a site. The site is small, but this is what gives this site it's charm.
The pitches are laid out in two's with hedges between to give some shelter and privacy and each pitch has a picnic table (a very nice touch). We have a large 10 berth tent, but still managed to fit this and our trailer on the pitch. We did have to park our car on the other side of the road, but this was not a problem.
All the facilities are basic, but very adequate and clean. There is a table tennis table (with bats etc. supplied), which kept our kids happy (and helped them make friends with the children on the next pitch).
There is also a small playground on site - but this was on the terrace above with the static caravans. The camp went quiet from about 9.30pm. If you are looking for an 'all singing, all dancing' site, then this is not for you. We loved the site because it was quiet and family-friendly.
The price is very reasonable and we had a lovely relaxed 5 night holiday and would not hesitate in returning.

A really lovely little site, very quiet and very sheltered, had everything we needed including laundry facilities, microwave, ironing board etc, which you wouldn't normally expect on such a small site. Access is quite tight for large caravans and I think that there is a limit on the number of caravans accepted on site at anyone time, this does make sure the small site doesn't become overcrowded, a good mix of caravans and tents. You do need to drive to get to the majority of restaurants and pubs. At the time of visiting the shower facilities were clean and functional but perhaps in need of a little updating, however,we will definitely be going back.

Just returned from 5 nights stay at this site. I have to say first impression was it was a lot smaller than it looked from their web page. Some of the pitches had been suffering from the weather fortunately we had some extra ground sheets as we were pitching on mud. All in all its a good site, the only draw back we found was we had pitch 14 next to the static caravans and the playground, it was quite cramped for our size tent and little privacy. I have to children under the age of 5 and it was hard to settle them from 8pm because of the other children in the play area. The play area suited a good age range, I would prefer to see proper play sand in the sand pit instead of the builders sand which seemed to have fine glittery bits that got in everywhere and a lid would have been good. Use of a fridge is a bonus although whilst we were there I'm not sure it was getting cold enough. Otherwise a good little site although if you looking for a feeling of space and not feeling like you are on top of each other I would give it a miss, not one for my parents.

Lovely small site owned and nurtured for the last 10 years by Gilles and Nelly. The site is terraced, with static caravans and playground on the higher level. The camping pitches, showers, toilets, kitchen, information hut, CDP, rubbish disposal, recycling, outdoor and under cover clothes drying, covered table tennis and badminton area with net are on the lower level. The camping pitches are grouped in 2 or 3 pitches and separated by hedging. Most pitches have EHU, and some have a TV point. The kitchen (with free use of iron, microwave and fridge / freezer), toilets and showers are cleaned twice daily by the owners. Each hot tap / shower has it’s own wall heater for instant hot water on demand. For an hour or so in the evenings, there is free internet access in the reception at the cottage- handy for checking the weather forecast!
The site has level pitches, all grass, with good drainage and is very sheltered and peaceful with no road noise. You will need some very strong pegs though as the ground is very stony underneath the grass. There is a tight turn into the site, but Gilles assured me that 26 foot caravans can comfortably make it with no problem!
Reception is at the cottage, which also does bed and breakfast. A list of arrivals and pitch allocation is posted on the door, so if no-one is around to greet you, you can get set up and pay later.
There are signposted public footpaths near the site for lovely walks, and the site is convenient for touring the South West. Helston is a few miles away, with a Tesco and Somerfield supermarket for your food essentials.
RNAS Culdrose is nearby and helicopters occasionally fly over during the day, but this is interesting rather than an annoyance.
Poldown is a very comfortable, relaxed site in a beautiful setting and is highly recommended. We will definitely return- it’s well worth the 820 mile return journey!

Have been coming to Poldown for many years now and I wholeheartedly agree with all the good reviews. I wont repeat all the bits about the facilities which are very good as you would expect from a site rated four stars by the tourism council ( max is 5). I enjoy particularly the new shower/toilet cubicle at the back and the microwave. It is set in lovely surroundings, away from the road, beautifully sheltered and yet very sunny. Children love it, the layout favours games of all sorts not counting those provided by the site. The location is ideal halfway between the North and South coast with Porthleven and Praa Sands only 3 miles away. Every year Nelly and Gilles lay on something new to enhance the facilities, this year they have built a sheltered area under which children and families can repair when the weather in inclement. The touring pitches are partly hedged around a central open area thus combining nicely privacy and conviviality. When my sister comes they stay in one of the holiday caravans which are all of the highest standard and well spaced amongst trees and shrubs. If you love peace and quiet family enjoyment, the countryside, easy access to beaches, coastal walks, gardens, fishing villages and country pubs this is the place.

We visited this site for 5 nights and had a great time. £8.50 per night we were in a sun valley 8 which is a big tent and we fitted on the pitch. I would recommend booking. It was quiet when we were there. We went down for Flora Day May 8th and I would recommend it if you have not been. The site is sheltered with trees all around. There is a fridge a freezer and a microwave, all free. Also on the laundry side there is a washer a dryer and a iron. The washer takes 4=50p and the dryer takes 50p for 30mins. The iron is free. The showers have plenty of hot water also free, We didn't find it a problem there was one shower for the men and one for women but no queueing. Toilets and showers were very clean plenty of toilet rolls. They have plenty of information for places you can visit, also B.B.Q.s If you have disposable ones there are bricks you can use so you don't burn the grass. When we were there Richard was looking after the place and he is a lovely man very friendly and nothing is to much trouble. He was staying on the site in a camper van so he was about most of the time. If you like the clotted cream, Pengoon Farm, Nancegollan, Can recommend that 4oz tub 60p buy one get one free, Thank you Richard for looking after us. Will be going back again.

Just spent 5 nights at Poldown. Nice site in a good position, but not 2 miles from Praa Sands as advertised! Nightly rates are good and free hot showers are clean although there is only one for each sex. Loo rolls seemed to be rationed though. One thing we did notice is that we didn't see anything of the owners until we paid our bill when we departed. We weren't even asked if we had enjoyed our stay or if everything had been okay for us! Don't think we'll be going back.

I would agree with all previous good reviews about this site. Our first time camping with two small and one large child, it rained most of the week, but Poldown was beautiful. The kids had a fantastic time - there is a badminton / tennis net in the centre of the tent field, with a box full of rackets, balls etc. There was always some kind of game going on with most kids on the site joining in no matter what their age. The owner has also added a third, unisex, disabled shower and toilet to the rear of the shower block, so never any queues. The ground was still in a reasonable condition at the end of the week despite the rain. Heavy duty tent pegs are definitely needed though, as you hit hard gravel after only a couple of inches of top soil (hence the great drainage). Owners very helpful and friendly - I forgot the gas bottle for our cooker, so they lent us their bottle for the week (saved having to fork out £55 for a new one!). If you intend to use the washing machine / tumble dryer, take plenty of 50p's! 20p to use hairdryer. Everything else free. There are also a few picnic benches scattered about for campers use. Any problems with the facilities were fixed very quickly, and the toilets were magically filled with toilet rolls over night! Highly recommended site - will definitely be camping again.

July 2005 Had six nights at this excellent little campsite. The site itself is very small - 15 touring pitches, most with EHU. There are also 6 static caravans. The site is split level with the majority of the touring pitches on the lower level along with the toilet/showers etc. Pitches are a good size - our Diablo 400 was easily accomodated. All pitches are flat and the grass was well tended. The touring pitches are located around the central toilet block and were very close - but not close enough to intrude. Facilities were good and clean - one shower in ladies, one in gents - but we never had to queue - but even if you did you could sit at your tent and watch for the person coming out. The middle room in the toilet block provided one sink for laundry and one for washing up - again, no problems with over-subscription. There is also a fridge freezer (useful for people without a fridge like us) and no problems with pilfering (even my beer stayed put!). There is also a microwave and an ironing board. Another shower was being built by Gilles (the owner) while we were there (around the back of the main block) - not sure who this will serve though. Owners very laid back - a French couple who were most welcoming. Location is perfect for the Lizard and Penwith peninsulas - Praa Sands nearest beach but would recommend Kynance Cove (at low tide) just for the sheer beauty. Penzance, Falmouth & St. Ives all very close by. No traffic noise at all. Would most definitely return and would recommend. Booking essential in school holidays and high season.
