 Lovely site with direct access to Hopeman beach.
Our pitch was beside the old railway bridge under which a path took you to the Bootleggers bar, restaurant and takeaway.
Dogs are allowed in the bar area up till 5pm and outside area at all times.
There are plenty of tables outside but only one which is sheltered if it rains.
There is a double decker bus which has tables and seating which you can use for eating takeaway food out of the rain.
The staff in Bootleggers were really friendly and the food was great and reasonably priced.

A high point of our time in Scotland. The glorious weather while it rained back home very probably had something to do with this too!
We’d never visited the Moray Firth before and intend to return, and we’d come back here for sure. We normally veer away from a biggish sites mainly full of static lodge type caravans, but by booking the Shoreside patch, we had a great pitch, right next to the shore, along with other friendly caravanners/m-homers. It was a more expensive but worth it for the view.
We were a little way off from the Bootleggers Bar and bistro, so while I saw reviews about some noise from here, even on May Holiday Weekend Friday it wasn’t any problem for us, and anyway it was mainly closed during our low-season visit. We didn't make use of it.
We had uninterrupted views of the gannets patrolling across to the Hopeman harbour end of the site, often diving right in front of us – wonderful – and the sound of Oystercatchers was regular, along with that of the waves. There was much hope of dolphin spotting, and we hear they did leap and cavort, but we just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time to see them!
The site was generally very well maintained and clean, the staff clearly work hard to make it a nice environment. Access is well signed from the main road, and easy.
Note – the sleeping policeman speed bumps on site need treating with great respect, they’re quite aggressive!
There’s a quite designer-ish feel about the whole place, from first encountering the logo on the website onwards; this may appeal to some more than others. There’s the attractive physical site plan to help you choose your spot, which is mostly good and quite witty but somehow doesn’t mention things like how tucked away behind everything life in the Coal Yard area would be – though more sheltered in a blow and there are for sure blows along this coast; there are the converted shepherd’s hut facilities, which are very attractive and //almost// make it.
To our minds, the designer perhaps hadn’t taken enough campsite showers, or they might have placed more pegs in more useful places, and maybe sited the shower head so it didn’t blast forward at the door, as so many do, (no chance for wimps like me to reach in and let that initial cold blast pass before you get in!), they might also have provided somewhere to put the soap/shampoo etc rather than the shower floor pan.
This is being maybe picky and ungenerous of me, but it’s not a cheap site, and it does set out to be smart. As I said, we fully hope to return one day, just hope the weather plays ball again!
There’s a lovely path along the top of the shore, only steps from the shoreside pitches. Eastward you keep going along the beach to reach Hopeman itself, still an impressive little harbour, Westward you can simply keep going, if you so wish, all the way to Burghead. My morning walks didn’t get nearly that far, though we did take the car to Burghead heritage centre, the Pictish capital and home of the famous Burghead Bull images.
As well as the shore-line path there’s a well-signposted way to the old railway, now a cycle/walking route. I preferred the views from the slower shore line, but both were good to try.
Visits out also included a trip to the heritage museum at Lossiemouth, a respite from a very strong wind, where we were given a great personalised tour by a volunteer who used to be with the Fishing, and another day to the community at Findhorn, no longer the hippy outcasts they once were, but now a thriving settlement with concerts and an excellent shop.
A strength of this site is that it’s a good place just to sit, to spend time looking over the sea, and listening. If the sun shines, the colours are brilliant.

Lovely location on a shore pitch fully serviced.
If facing the sea the water point is on the wrong side so you need a long hose.
Showers and loos on replica shepherd huts which are lovely.
We loved the walks around to Lossiemouth and further afield. Hopeman has a good chippie.
There is a fancy takeaway on site which is pricey but very nice food.

It was our 1st stay at this campsite and I think it's my new favourite place.
The pitch we were upgraded to free of charge was fantastic.
We parked our car when we arrived and never moved it until it was time to come home.
Beautiful walks, lovely beach's and the site has a restaurant which we used.
I will be recommending this site to family and friends. I give this site 10/10

A very clean and tidy campsite with an excellent location.
Slight niggles were that the water wasn’t switched on in Campers kitchen and that the showers were not heated,
But all in all a great stay.

Fantastic site. We booked this site in advance and got a shore pitch. On arrival we were given a friendly welcome and guided to our pitch, which was right on the waterfront with fantastic panoramic views.
The pitch was very large hardstanding and level. The toilet block in this section are some of the best we've seen resembling train carriages, all self contained and immaculate, so no queuing needed. We saw dolphins on the second day.
The site has The Bootleggers Bistro a very quirky cafe in a Routmaster Double Decker bus but this was currently closed, There was still selling takaway food and they had a bar in an old Citreon van. Nearby the village of Hopeman has 2 Small convenience stores a lovely cafe and a couple of pubs.
The area is great for walking as it's on the Moray coastal path. You can walk to Lossiemouth or Burghead, where there are great forest trails. Nearby is the City of Elgin where there are all the large supermarkets and a great deal of shops and cafes and bars.
I recommend Batchen Street for trendy Cafes and shops. There is a good bus service to Elgin and Lossiemouth.
A lovely site and we will return.

Good safe site for the kids to play on their bikes.
Right next to a lovely sandy beach which is great for the family.
Very clean facilities with sanitisers at each toilet door.

Lovely site with pitches right on the seafront.
It can be noisy however with the Bootleggers restaurant being behind the pitches. The food from there was nice but expensive.
We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed walks into Burghead.

Brilliant site, really peaceful, great for dogs as on beach.
Facilities great, love the toilet, shower and sink all in one cubicle, also campers kitchen well fitted out.

Great site, sea views, very clean well looked after. Toilet/shower huts are brilliant and spotless.
Good TV reception.
Nice bistro with good food and prices.
Would recommend.
