Love it here been 3 times. 1 before COVID and then 2 this year

Stayed on way down to Provence but it was so hot there so after 2 weeks of sweating decided to go back to Gigny.

Booked pitch that we had on way down but, when we got there it had been double booked so had first pitch over bridge,

Good one but very noisy at night with birds etc ( never found out what kind they were)

Restaurant good but could do with a few more on menu.

All amenities good and clean.

Beautiful site. Large pitches, great facilities, lovely restaurant and nice people.

Wished we’d stayed longer than one night but unfortunately just used it as a stopover on journey north.

We returned to this site after a near 3 year absence for a couple of nights stopover. Used our ACSI card and paid €2. 50 extra each night for service pitch, very good value. Many changes to the site since we last visited, all the Eurocamp mobile homes and tents have gone.

We were told this was because the river Saone flooded the site causing a lot of damage. However the site and pitches have all been refurbished to an very high standard and it looks far better for it especially without all the eurocamp mobile homes, tents and reception area, the latter we thought always looked a mess. Also this is now a castels site when we visited before it was Kawan VIllage.

Cannot add much to the excellent reviews below except to make a few comments from the view of motorhome owners. The site has an excellent camping car service point in the car park at reception and we would recommend a service pitch as you have water and waste water disposal on your pitch. Pitches are reasonably level but depending which one you have you may need levelling blocks. Pitches are well spaced out and for those times when it is wet there are several hardstanding.

Overall this is an excellent site set in a nice location around the chateau and lake with lots of wildlife around and lots to do on site. If you like cycling and have brought your bikes there is a very good off road cycle track (Voie Verte) on a former railway line nearby (park in Buzy or St-Gengoux-le-National). In the latter there is a camping car Aire which we used for the day but you can stay there overnight if you wish.

This site can cater for all types of holidaymakers whether you are a couple or family with young children and we could highly recommend it.

We stayed at Gigny sur Saone on the way down to St Reimy in 2019 and intended to stay again the following year as it was clean site

But COVID came. It had been flooded that year but luckily they cleaned it up. Shop, Bar and restaurant look clean. We did have a drink and sat outside as we were lucky with weather.

Toilet, showers were good. Around rest of site was clean and tidy we even saw otters in the pond.

Yes we were hoping to go again this year but husband had to go into hospital in June but hopefully at end of August we hopefully will be able to get at pitch

Campsite was really easy to find (excellent directions provided when booking) with huge car park at the entrance. We were welcomed by Gert-Jan, check in process quick and very efficient, good info about the site and lots of leaflets and info about things to do in surrounding area.

We had a serviced pitch (a bit of a treat) with plenty of shade, we were prob closer to children's play area than we would have liked but a move would have taken us even further away from the shower/toilet block so we stayed put. The site has a good bar and outside terrace (only place you can get wifi) and a very well stocked shop (prices very competitive with large supermarket nearby in fact some items were cheaper) including fresh fruit and salad, plenty of chilled items and drinks, you can order croissants and bread daily.

Lovely in house restaurant with very good quality food reasonably priced. Site was hugely popular with families and clearly all the children loved it. Showers and toilets always spotless, new block is really lovely with roomy shower cubicles.

Lots of lovely cycle routes from the site including one which runs alongside the river for miles. River is only about 5 mins drive away and has lovely picnic area with charcoal bbq - took our portable bbq and food down one evening and had dinner with a fab view.

Chateau de l’Eperviere is a 5-star Castels campsite situated in Southern Burgundy at Gigny-sur-Saone. Being part of Les Castels you expect the site to be top quality and it doesn’t disappoint. Getting to the site is easy with it being situated a short distance from the A6 autoroute. Head for Sennecey-le-Grand and simply follow the signs. The campsite is approximately 5kms to the east. All roads are large enough for all sizes of unit.

Checking in at the campsite is simplicity itself. There is a large car park and reception is found immediately behind where you stop. All reception staff speak good English. The Dutch owner is particularly fluent. Out of season the campsite accepts the ACSI discount card. Entry into the camping area is via a barrier which is controlled by vehicle registration plate.

The camping area is split into two sections, separated by a large fish pond. The first area (closest to the chateau) has pitches that are generally separated by mature hedges. All pitches here have 10 amp electricity but are smaller than the pitches further into the site. The main camping area is beyond the pond. Pitches here are larger, some are separated by hedges, some are more open. These pitches all have 10 amp electricity. Some also have water and drainage. There are also two premium pitches which include garden furniture, a bbq and a fridge. Both areas have a mixture of grass and hard standing pitches.

Many campsites at this time of year look a bit unkempt and unloved. Not so with Eperviere. We arrived mid May and the site looked immaculate. The grass pitches were neatly trimmed and everywhere looked clean and tidy. This is particularly remarkable considering that this site had suffered from a major flood earlier in the year when the water levels on parts of the site had reached over 10ft high. If we hadn’t known about this we would have been none the wiser.

This year most of the campsite is laid out for camping, tourers and motorhomes. Due to the floods there is now only one small tour operator on site (Villa Tent) who have eight glamping type tents in their own area. The site also has five mobile homes in a separate area and a couple of flats in the chateau. The rest of the site is now a traditional campsite which gives it a very nice feel.

There are two toilet blocks, one in each area. Toilets are kept very clean. Both blocks are unisex. Toilets all have seats and toilet paper is provided in the cubicles. The showers are all push button with temperature control. Each block has a number of washing sinks in cubicles. The toilet block in the main part of the site has recently been refurbished, but both blocks are of a high standard.

This is a fantastic campsite for an out of season holiday as all the main facilities are open all season. These include a small supermarket (bread must be ordered the day before), bar, takeaway and restaurant. All these facilities are in or close to the chateau.

The food is excellent. We used the restaurant twice and the takeaway 3 times and enjoyed every meal. The takeaway menu is fairly limited offering only pizza, chips, and beef bourguignon but the quality couldn’t be faulted. The restaurant menu is far more extensive. The campsite also has a wine cellar and has wine tasting sessions twice a week from mid May onwards.

Other facilities include an outdoor and small indoor pool, children’s playgrounds, table tennis tables, a small sports pitch and bike hire.

The closest town of any size is Sennecey-le-Grand which is about 10 minutes away. Here you will find a good sized Auchan supermarket and a good sized shopping centre.

Burgundy scenery isn’t the most dramatic in France. The area around the campsite is rather flat which makes it perfect for walking and cycling. The reception has leaflets showing the routes available in and around Tournus (south of the campsite). The local tourist information centre in Sennecey-le-Grand has a small booklet with routes that are closer to the site (7 euro).

All the routes are marked with yellow markers which should make them easy to follow. In truth the yellow markers need repainting as some are very faint and some have disappeared altogether. A combination of a compass and Google maps generally kept us on the correct route. Many of the walks start in a pretty village and show you the surrounding area. There is also a picturesque walk which goes past the campsite and follows the river.

There are no major attractions nearby but that doesn’t mean there is nothing of interest to do. There are plenty of castles and historical buildings. We went to the village and castle at Brancion and the abbey at Cluny. Both are well worth a visit. There are also a number of interesting and unusual museums close by including the SAS museum at Sennecey-le-Grand (free), the hospital museum (Hotel Dieu) at Tournus and the photography museum at Chalon-sur-Saone (also free). All are worth a visit.

We spent 18 nights at Eperviere and had a fantastic time. If you want a relaxing holiday in a quiet part of France then Chateau de l’Eperviere really should be at the top of your list. It truly is one of the best sites we have ever been on. If you also happen to have a penchant for good wine and beef stew then I know of nowhere better.

It's the second year in a row that we've used this site as stopover, it having been recommended to us by seasoned campers! This is a great site, with friendly staff.

The pool is great, including the little indoor pool! It is a really picturesque site with a lovely lake. Great place to look out on to and have a cup of tea in the morning before the next stage of your journey.

The shop, bar and takeaway were all great; the thought of one of their pizzas kept us going on the journey! Toilet and washing facilities very good too.

A friendly, well equipped site with a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere whenever we have visited! Would definitely go back and hope to spend a longer break there in the next year or two.

Very well presented site, Reception friendly and efficient. We were touring with another couple and had requested adjacent, serviced pitches. We were allocated adjoining pitches in the main field across the causeway which were flat but stony so rock pegs were needed to pitch the awnings and canopies.

We were able to connect to water and electricity OK but grey waste still has to go into a waste hog as the disposal is central between the pitches and we would have needed pipes about 20 feet long and the connection to the drain is about 9 inches off the floor. This meant we had to trundle the waste a little way away to get a ground level drain

The site was very busy but quiet as there were only a few pre-school kids and although we were right next to the central play area noise was never a problem. The sanitation block was cleaned very regularly all through the day, plenty of hot water and the washing up area large enough that we never had to queue.

The pool was a godsend as we had several very hot days reaching 40 degrees on a couple of occasions, the pool area is clean with shade available. They stipulate budgie smugglers for the men but no-one seemed to worry about it as the pool is unsupervised so most blokes were wearing shorts.

The take away food service was great, but book early for the restaurant, its very popular. The bar was pleasant enough and the wifi was adequate.

Around the site there is a very nice restaurant on the river 10 minutes walk away and the hamlet itself is pleasant. We visited Louhans, Dole and Chalons but spent the majority of the time on site just relaxing. The site was occupied mainly by Brits, Dutch and German couples plus there was a rally on site for the Dutch Hobby Caravan Club but they were having a good time and not harming anyone. The overnight travellers were pitched near the chateau and never bothered us.

For me the midges and mozzies were a problem, I got constantly bitten despite repellant while my wife had no issues at all. (they wouldn't dare!) I understand that this year there is an epidemic of the darn critturs in France but we'll not be staying by standing water again.

The two fishing lakes were alive with em and there is a feed to the lakes from the river which I think is the main problem as when we were out walking the dogs in the cool of the evening we would attract them, and a couple of times when driving out we drove through clouds of the things.

Overall a pleasant, well run site. An 8 hour jog from Calais we got down in one hop but broke the journey on the way back. Ignore the sat nav once you turn off the main road and go under the railway bridge and follow the signs. The sat nav will try and take you in the back road which we managed but it was a bit tight.

I can't think of a reason not to stay here although like anywhere there are minor things that could be a bit better. The reason this site gets so busy (it was full at 2 weekends even in early June) is because it is in a great location and most things are a notch above other sites.

I still don't get the open urinals but that's the French for you! If you pick a pitch over the bridge it is a lot more peacful than by the chateaux and has a large green space in the middle which makes up for the longer walk to the toilets. Staff were great. Definitely recommend this site.

I'm not sure why one of the previous reviewers was quite so negative.

We always stop off here on the way to the south and always make a point of staying for 2-3 nights on the way down and back as it is a nice way to start and end your holiday.

We like the fact that despite it is fairly big, it is quiet and well spaced out with big pitches. As somebody else mentioned, it is split into two areas with the area over the bridge further away from the main facilities. However there is still a toilet/shower block in this area, so maybe one of the previous reviewers missed it. Toilets and showers are spotless.

For younger children this site is really good, for older children they may find it a bit quiet unless they are into cycling in which case they would probably enjoy a bit of touring around - the roads are quiet and perfect for cyclists.

One thing I enjoy is sitting in the courtyard in the evening enjoying a beer.

If I was to pick any negatives then it is that the bar closes a bit earlier in low season (10pm). We have also stayed here in high season which at this time of year we think is a bit expensive. Also, in the far field we once camped along the back next to the road. We found local farmers traffic woke us up early, so if you are in a tent I'd stay further away from there.
