Don't know quite what we were expecting but somehow the site wasn't what we were expecting. We were treated in a friendly and polite manner by the owner at reception. The site was nearly full which surprised us. We were offered pitches in both areas of the site but chose to look at the large flat area furthest from the chateau. We found a lovely large flat pitch and decided to stay put.
We stayed for 6 days at this site and found it delightful in many ways. We used Camping Cheques again and again no problems.
The ablutions block was always spotless. The site went quiet by bedtime. We had pleasant neighbours. And there was a large grassy area behind us that gave a lovely feeling of openess. Tried using the wi-fi by the bar but it was so slow we gave up.
It was school hols while there so few children on site. This grass area would be an excellent playground for children. Make your own mind up if this is an advantage.
The indoor pool was good, the outdoor one was too cold to try.
The Saone is only 10 minutes walk from the site and is beautiful. The town of Tournus is near for the supermarket. While there don't miss the Abbey and also try the town trail - get a map from reception and follow the brass arrows in the pavements
One negative however. Although the electric trips are set for 10 amps the site supply is inadequate. Around breakfast and early evening the fridge kept switching off with an error code of 'Low voltage'. This only affects the latest fridges. We mentioned it to the site owner, who knew of the problem but said nothing could be done.
Would we go again? Yes probably, but there is another Camping Cheques site on the river bank in Tournus which we looked and would like to try.
No children so can't comment on their facilities.

This site is perfect for a one-night stopover or for longer if you want to look around the lovely area of the Saone valley. Easy to find from both north and south directions from the A6 motorway. At Sennecy le Grand take the D18 signed Gigny. Campsite is well signed. All easy to negotiate.
The entrance to the campsite is very large and easy to access. Plenty of parking space while you check in. The site is in 2 parts. One is near the Chateau and the other is across a bridge and is a larger area. Most people stay near the Chateau as it is pretty, but we prefer the openness and larger pitches a bit further away. The pitches away from the Chateau are larger and very easy to access. You can even leave your car hitched upon some pitches if you are just doing a one-night stop. Some of the pitches near the chateau are sloping, but those across the bridge are all flat.
There is a well stocked shop and a nice outdoor pool area. Also a small indoor pool and spa area. There is a pleasant courtyard at the Chateau for a drink and also a restaurant in the Chateau. We did not try the restaurant, but it looked full as we walked past – always a good sign. There is wine tasting in the cellar of the Chateau a few times a week and we bought lots of lovely red, white wine and cremant (dry sparkling). Plenty of information at reception about the local area. They are very helpful and always looking to have a chat. Free wifi near the shop/courtyard.
The toilet blocks are well fitted out and kept immaculate. Our one grip is that the only bins are at the entrance to the site and it is quite a trek from the far end. They really could do with some more bins at the far end of the site. We just dropped the rubbish off as we passed or took the dog for a walk.
There are plenty of places to visit nearby and lots of wine growers to visit. The river Saone runs just behind the site and is a gentle walk. You can walk for miles along the river banks and there are virtually no houses. Very peaceful. Chalon and Tournus are a short drive away and well worth a visit.
We will stay here again and again, as we head past on our way south or on our way back north. This is a perfect site in every way and highly recommended, especially if you are towing a large unit.

Stayed here for 2 nights on our way home. Would have been happy to stay for much longer.
Easy to find - satnav took us right to it. Very convenient off the motorway as an overnight stop, or very suitable for a longer stay. Plenty to do and see in the area.
Very large arrival parking area in front of the Chateau. This made a nice change, as so many are tiny and congested. Fast and efficient reception.
Plots are in two areas. One is near to the Chateau, the other is across a bridge over a small lake. We chose the second, as it had larger pitches and looked quieter. Plots were in good condition, considering it was the end of the season. All plots have 10A and there were plenty of water and waste points. We really liked the open spaces in this area.
Toilet blocks were fine and kept very clean.
There is a nice leisure area with an indoor and outdoor pool. Small shop and what looked like a nice restaurant in the Chateau (regrettably we did not have the time to try it).
The River Saone is only a few minutes walk away and the local town of Chalon is well worth a visit.
Pleasant wine tasting in the Chateau 3 evenings a week, with a local producer proudly presenting his creations - we sampled lots and bought 5 cases!
This is a nice, well balanced site and understandably pretty full most of the time. We could think of nothing to fault in this site.
We would definitely use it again.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a touring holiday (and would gladly have stayed longer).
We were pitched over looking the smaller of the two ponds, so we had the front of the van overlooking the water.
We had no trouble from midges (didn't see one), just a good view of the ducks and carp in the water, there were also two Muskrats which frequently came out to graze on the grass.
The facilities were excellent, with usual mixed amenities.
The pool looked great but didn't get round to using it.
Can't think of any negatives, maybe alonger stay would have brought out something but I'm sure it would have been minor.
Close by there is an ATAC supermarket for shopping and filling up with cheap fuel.
A trip to Cluny is worthwhile for sightseeing.
One to do again :-)

We have just returned from 18 nights on this site, our first venture into France towing a caravan after 20 years of camping there under canvass. We loved the site. Our pitch was near the lake on the Chateau side and it was ideal.
The site is often used for overnight stops that meant there were empty pitches all around us through the day and entertainment laid on in the evening watching the new arrivals pitching up. We were never disturbed in the morning by early leavers. Indeed this was a really quiet site at night. Our pitch was really too big and despite having a 7.2 metre caravan, with car and awning, plus we had a table and chairs set up, we used less than half of it!
The sanitary block was always very clean but despite this the toilets did have a lingering urine smell. There were plenty of showers and toilets available because during the day a lot of pitches were empty.
We had no problem with insects or midges at all. There was plenty of other wildlife though, ducks, coypu, owls and other birds of prey.
We have two teenagers who found plenty to do both on site and during our various trips off-site too. The bar had free wifi and the three wine tasting evenings per week were good. There were only two evenings of live music while we were there, so the nightlife wasn't great! Not what we would look for anyway so it was ok for us.
This is a very rural site which was great for cycling along the river and through the fields but did mean a 15 minute drive to a small supermarket or 25 minutes to Chalon for a larger one.
The staff were great and the on-site shop was good enough. The site has it's own, probably white labelled, wine which was excellent at 4-50 euros a bottle; we bought two boxes of the white home.
Would we go back? Probably not, been there and done it. Would we recommend it? Yes, definitely.

Pitches
Mostly level and approximately flat pitches. Most were reasonably large though a few were small and irregular shaped. Almost all pitches have some gravel in middle, many were all gravel for caravans/mobiles. With a big tent it was not possible to avoid this gravel and rock pegs were useful, as was a groundsheet protector! Campsite seems suited more for vans than tents. The sites were demarked, but there is almost no privacy, hedging had been removed or non existent on most pitches. Shade on most pitches if you want it. Quiet even when completely full.
Facilities
Restaurant excellent, variety of menu options way beyond usual campsite fare. Also an excellent on site pizza takeaway. Shop was very well stocked. Unisex toilets cleaned several times a day, good shower facilities though at one end of the site – 3 min walk if at the wrong end. Pool OK, was a bit manic when site was full. Entertainment on Friday night was a gospel band.
Surrounding Area
Site is in a small farming hamlet with not much around, can cycle in various directions, best option down to the Saone river and then along it, we went to Tournus – an easy and flat ride. Other Burgundy destinations are a drive away – Beaune was 45 mins on Peage, or 60 mins on backroads. Cluny was a similar driving time. Site is around 10-15 mins from A6 Peage depending on approach direction, or 5 mins from N6.
Ambiance
Less appealing was the transient nature of this site, something like 50% of guests were overnighters, the site half emptied by around 11 am and then filled up again around 5pm with new overnighters. Lacked atmosphere as a result of people moving through. Mostly Dutch (circa 70%), then Brits, with a few Germans and Italians. No French on site at all.
Summary
As a stopover for going south this site is excellent, but not so good for a longer stay because of the limited destinations near to it and the transient ambiance.

What a lovely site. We stayed here last week on our way from the south.
We did make a wrong turn at one stage but then followed another British caravan.
We have a large twin axle caravan but the pitch we were on we were able to keep the car hitched up for the following day.
We were in the new part so did not use the old facilities but the new toilet block had plenty of large cubicles for showers and sinks. Not everyone likes unisex toilets but is quite common in France. They were very clean and had dish and clothes washing sinks outside.
The caravan was at the side of the lake so I was prepared to be bitten (the little darlings will find me even when I wear repellent)but I got away with it.
The food in the restaurant was superb as was the service.
In fact, the only problem we had was we had to leave the following day.
PS They do have wine tasting, apparently at 7 pm on Thursdays. We didn't know until too late.

This campsite is one of the Kawan chain and said it was conveniently located 12 miles of the motorway. I would like to qualify that they mean 12 country miles either that or the sat nav took us the longest way possible. The site is in the hamlet of Gigny sur Saone which is very picturesque and very rural.
It has impressive iron gates and a gravel large gravel drive overlooking the back courtyard of the Chateau , a very grand welcome.
The Dutch reception staff were very helpful and after a quick check in and quite a lot of sales banter about giving us the best pitch in the place, we excitedly headed off to find it. What a view and what a massive pitch- right by the fishing lake overlooking the front of the chateau. But all was not well in paradise.
We wanted to love this place - but we didn't. We live in the West of Scotland but quite honestly we have never seen quite so many midges descend as we unfolded our Pennine. Probably because we were near the fishing lake which was very still and full of lillypads. We headed off for a walk around the site to investigate further. The area near the Chateau is the original site - go over the bridge on the lake and a much larger more ordinary site unfolds. The plus points are that all the pitches are large and flat so if you have a big caravan or family sized tent its ideal and gives you plenty of outdoor space. If you are pitched near the back of this area its quite a long walk back to reception, the shop and pools, they have a small indoor pool and a outdoor one which is quite small for the size of the site. We did notice a purpose built paddling pool in the new area for the children also.
There were 2 shower and loo blocks one over in the new part and one near the old part. Not really enough for the amount of people.
The shop , the bar and restaurant are all in the courtyard of the Chateau. The bar area is very pretty and has a few tables outside - unfortunately when we were there our view was a bouncy castle. The shop is well stocked with local wines etc and the usual groceries but is very expensive as they have rather a captive audience. The restaurant is award winning and really was beautiful. Lovely old stone walls with roses and flowers everywhere- it had the elegance of old French court about it. The take away was also good and had the nifty idea of serving the local dish of Boeuf Bourginon and chips as well as pizza's - both of which were good. After our take away- the bugs made a meal of us and despite the heat- we had to retire all too early ! Loch Lomond springs to mind.
We were only there for the night and the OH was glad to pack up and escape the midges the next day. I loved the old part and the chateau building itself but we probably wouldn't go back- especially for a one night stop over and definitely not by the lake.

To find site:- Exit A6 at Chalons-sur-Saone and take N6 towards Sennecey-le-Grand, turn east on D18 and watch for campsite signs on outskirts of village.
We have used this site several times as an overnight stop en route to the South of France or back home and our latest visit was in early June in 2009. After a gap of about 11 years we have certainly noticed the many positive improvements to the site. The campsite is situated in the grounds of a rather nice Chateau which over the years has gradually been restored to its former glory. Parts of the Chateau are used for various campsite functions but most are contained in the outbuildings. The is a shop, selling some useful basic items plus a very nice selection of local wines, has, along with the bar have been relocated to a rather nice courtyard. The site has a really nice restaurant. There are two toilet blocks, one next to the pool near the Chateau and another new block further into the site. They are both kept spotlessly clean. Just outside the toilet block is a swimming pool complex. There are two pitching areas, one close to the Chateau and the main part further away across a short causeway over a lake. Whilst most pitches are on grass there are quite a few on gravel hardstanding. They are all of a generous size. Electric and water points are conveniently placed around the site. Internet access is available at the bar either by fixed computers or WiFi but this is limited to the area around the bar and does not extend campsite wide. Prices are reasonable at €3 for 2 hours. This campsite accepts Camping Cheques. For anyone arriving at the campsite after reception closes there is a large parking area at the entrance.
This is an excellent site which does deserve a longer stay than just overnight. There would be lots to do in the area. I am not sure if it still happens but the owner used to organise wine tasting evenings which sounded very enjoyable.

We love this site and stayed twice in 2008. The owners (two families who live on site) are some of the nicest we have come across. We reserved a pitch in the newer part of the site and were very pleased with it. Most pitches are large, flat and well drained. The site was almost full but we were never disturbed and it was very peaceful at night. We haven't been bothered by midgies at all in May or August.
The facilities are well maintained and we never had to queue for a shower. We had a drink in the bar most nights as our son likes to use the wifi which only works in the courtyard area. For 2010 the wifi will be free. The shop is well stocked and reasonably priced, yes its more expensive than the nearest supermarket approx 4 miles away but it is handy if you've forgotten something and the pain au raisins are the best we've had in all the years we've been holidaying in France. The pizzas are fabulous and the wine tasting highly recommended. It takes place in the cellar under the chateau a couple of times a week. After tasting the lovely wine and purchasing several bottles I struggled up the cellar steps!
The indoor pool was a great hit with our children, my only criticism would be the changing area you go through to get to the pool needs modernising. The outdoor pool was lovely in the hot weather we had and we always found a spare lounger easily. We would love it if they added some slides in the pool but speaking to the owners they don't want the site to attract loads of teenagers, a shame as I think younger children love slides too.
The whole surrounding area is lovely and we had many bike rides along the river which is only a few minutes from the site. The roads are relatively flat and quiet. The site does bike hire.
A lot of people use the site as a stopover enroute south but this doesnt cause a problem if you are there for a longer stay. It can be empty in the day then fills up late afternoon onwards. I used to love walking round at night having a nose at other peoples tents, MHs and caravans!
This is our favourite French site, cant really explain why we just love the relaxed feel, peace and quiet.
