A bit grotty and tired in places - several 'shanty town' set-ups. Long stay tourers could do with some owner TLC, but most look after and take care of their vans.
Showers may be free, but very long queues and it costs 10p for hot washing-up water.
Showers could do with more hooks on the backs of the doors, (and shower curtains as in 1st block),
Pool looked grim, I think it could just do with a good clean. - we didn't let the kids use it.
Shop sells a good range of stock
We went to Hawkestone Park (3 miles away) and had a fantastic day out.
Raf Cosford air museum was a full day out with free entrance (bargain)
Overall I would not recommend if you like a quiet site! We went on August bank hol wkend and vans seemed to be squeezed on.

Took my 7 year old daughter here for our first camping trip together Wanted a site where there was plenty to do & I wasn`t disappointed. We were in the overflow field which is right at the far end of the site
Pro`s of this field :-
There is loads of room & you can pitch where you want Close to Jakks Barn (kiddys bar/disco) & the cafe Close to water points Close to the pigs !
Cons of this field :-
A fair way from the toilet/shower block/washing up block A good way from the pool A good way from the shop A good way from the crazy golf
When I go here again I will try & get a pitch in the middle of the park
The pool was more than adequate. Not massive but plenty big enough for the kids. I even went in ! No problems with cleanliness when I was there Shop is well stocked & good prices. Didn`t play crazy golf although it looked like a good course Play area isn`t massive but well laid out & my daughter liked it. The town (Wem) is only a 10 minute or so walk away & has an excellent old fashioned sweet shop (The Treacle Mine) which has a fantastic range of sweets both old & new. Some I hadn`t seen for years. It also does an excellent breakfast which was very well priced. I`d definitely go there again as my daughter has already requested we go again

We have been here a few times now over the years because it is only an hour away for us, so useful for a quick getaway.
We have just come back from a 2 night stay, we were going to stay on for a couple more days, but the bank holiday was looming, and we got a little concerned on how they seemed to want to pack in as many people as they could. We camped on the top field which is nice and flat and tent peg friendly. There seemed to be a problem with wasps and flies, there are loads and the flies swarm on to your car if unlucky. We were allocated a pitch, which we felt was too small, but there was only a handful of tents on the field so we spread out a little, but we would have had problems if we were there for the bank holiday, as you are only allocated a 6m square. If you have one of these new bigger berth tents you would have struggled, and there was nowhere for children to play if all the pitches were used. While we were there they marked out 123 pitches in the top field alone, but we noticed going around that there was a lot of pitches marked out. It seemed a lot of pitches for the campsite.
Although you can't fault the cleanliness of the toilets and shower blocks, it seemed to be a strange time to close for cleaning. The bottom block closes at 9.30 - 10.30 in the morning which is a little early, seeing this seemed to be peak times for showering. The top one closes at 11am until after 12. Also while we were there, the boiler had broken down so there was no hot water in the bottom toilets and it had been like that for a few days! How can just 4 hot showers cater for 200 +??
The pool isn't that heated for the kids and could do with a good clean. Some of the pitches around the centre looked badly maintained.
Kids will love Jakks and it is entertaining there. We went mid week, so there was no noise at all heard if we didn't go.
Treat yourself to breakfast on your last morning, you just can't fault it.
It is a good site for kids, they will love it, but I don't know if I will want to go back again. I personally think £18 a night is not worth it.

We've just come back from a 2 night weekend stay at this park.
We are new to camping and were really impressed with the site. Long stay tourers could do with some owner TLC, but most look after and take care of their vans.
We were positioned on the top field (no dogs allowed in this field) This field comes with about 6 electric pitches. We were able to chose our position. We opted for the top corner of the field as the bottom was fuller. You can see the 'bonfire' for guy fawks night is already under way.
Pitching was fairly easy, no issues with pegging out. After reading the reviews we had bought some rock pegs with us but in the top field they weren't needed at all. The lower camping field did look very stoney so I think that might of needed stronger pegs.
We were fairly close to Jakks barn, but didn't really hear the music from our tent. The only exception was the Saturday night as they had a live band, so slightly louder, but not enough to wake my 5 and 2 year old.
Next to Jakks barn in the cafe/takeway, which was handy and they did a good range of foods for a decent price. Could do with being more generous with their sausages tho!
The shower/toilet block was a fair walk from our tent, it was situated in the middle of the site so bit of a pain for that early morning wee! The facilities were clean and tidy. Some of the showers didn't have hooks but I just threw my towel/clothes over the door instead. A way round it though is to take your clothes in a plastic bag and hang that on the lock slider instead. Either way the cubical is far enough away from the water jet so clothes stay dry. Does get busy and with only half a dozen showers, you do sometimes have to Q. Lots of loo's and a few sink cubicals as well as communal sinks. Soap dispensers and loo paper provided. In the middle of this block is a disabled loo and a bathroom, which was super handy with small children. Wasn't signed posted well enough though that anyone could use the bathroom. Only found it by chance.
Shop sells a good range of stock, including bug spray and hayfever tablets!
We never tried the adults only bar, but looked ok.
Pool looked a little grubby. I think it could just do with a good clean. Sure it was ok to swim in, but the pool itself made the water look green!
Jakks barn was great for the kids, we went both nights till about 9ish, helped the kids burn off some enery and made them sleep like logs!
Washing up was 10p, but that got us a sink full of nice warm water. 2 drinking water taps in our field, but 2nd tucked away behind the electic pitches.
The site did have a wasp issue, but had left traps to try and deal with it. Something that can't be stopped but site did all they could to help.
Play area was a bit of a let down, broken swing, old slide, but ok for little ones.
I did like the fact that you can be in a none dog field. Having a 2 year old that is scared of big dogs it was a worry but we were able to avoid the big dogs as none in our field.
On site animals a nice touch, but no real 'hands on' experience. Apart from the pigs. My daughter was passing at 11am and they were throwning food over so they let her help.
Crazy golf at the shop end of the site was nice and my two had fun trying.
All in all, we thought this site was good for families. Lots of kids to do, and lots of kids so easy for yours to make friends. Wouldn't suit someone looking for a basic site.

Good campsite to visit with young children. We were camped next to a field of alpacas. The play area was good and in view of where we camped. There is a small wooded path behind the play area which leads to Jakks Barn at the other end of the campsite. My children loved this path and pretended to be Indiana Jones. I liked the crazy golf at the entrance.Free just pay a deposit which you get back. The pool was nice although cold as it was an overcast day. The entertainment in Jakks Barn was good with a good family disco to keep the children occupied giving parents a chance for a drink. The toilets were a bit far away from where we were camped. Having to pay for hot water was annoying. A good lively campsite.

Very large site with two big tent fields, one of which didn't allow dogs which is where we pitched. Field was quite waterlogged when we arrived after a day of rain but did dry out fairly quickly over the next day or so. Jakks Barn was close to the field we pitched in although we never used it and it did look a bit 'grotty' but from the field where we were you could hear the music quite clearly at the weekends. The Saturday we arrived there was live music which should have finished at 11pm but didn't stop until gone midnight! If you have smaller children, we would suggest the other field to pitch in. Showers were normally clean and tidy with plenty of free hot water at any time of the day or night although they were a 5 min walk from where we were pitched. Was not that impressed with the trains that passed by the camp but they did only run during the day so not too bad.
The biggest problem we had was noise! even with the campsites rules of 'no excessive noise, especially after 11pm' we did have a few nights of noisiness ('happy campers' talking/laughing rather loudly) well after midnight! not helpful when you're trying to sleep!
Shop was adequate (usual 'corner shop' items) with reasonable prices considering the 'captive audience'. Crazy golf always seemed busy, as did the pool but didn't use either of them.
Site was close to Wem (5min drive) which had a large Cooperative and various takeaways/pubs.
On the whole a pleasant enough site in a good location

As first time campers we wanted something quite close to home in case everything went horribly wrong and were a last minute booking on this site. We were hesitant because of the reviews but after spending two days there do not understand what people are complaining about. We camped on the overflow field, plenty of room, no trouble getting the tent up, no bent tent pegs. The ground was dry and just mown. The surroundings were clean and well maintained.
We had a good walk all around the site, children's play ground was clean but our daughter (aged three and half) was more interested in running around and kicking the football. She quickly made friends with other children and there was plenty of space for them to play. We did not use the shop as bought every thing we needed with us and were very lucky that the weather was so fine so spent most of our time sitting outside enjoying the sunshine. The toilets are abit of a walk, but this is camping so would expect that. I do understand some of the comments about the toilets but that is down to the calibre of the people who use them. 30 minutes after they had been cleaned I had to take my daughter. The first five had been used and not flushed (perhaps parents should teach their children better) also one girl spent 15 minutes drying her hair (after getting out of the shower) with the hand dryer, blocking it from being used by anyone else.
Went to the children's disco, our daughter loved it and the air hockey table and pool table were in constant use. Drinks were cheap compared to what we normally pay and the little bar for children is great, with a good choice of drinks. The entertainment for children was lively. We were back in the tent by 9.30pm but our daughter really did not want to leave. There was just the general hum of conversations from other campers and by 11.00 everything was quiet. We were up a six the next day, very very quiet, the site was spotless again. The owners work hard at looking after this property and it shows. No it is not all brand new and super sparkly but is is well maintained and for £18.00 a night it is a bargain.
I can see us using this site again if we wanted a short break as it covers all the needs of a family.

We had a lovely long week end here helped by sunshine of course but found the facilities for our 2 families total of 9 people to be excellent. 5 children aged 2-13 all enjoyed it lots. Toilets and showers clean, not a power shower but does the job! Play area has equipment for varyin ages so excellent for our gang. On site shop reasonable and a massive Co-op short drive into Wem itself which is a very pretty place. Good prices in bar and cafe. Recommend this site!

Pretty good site, we didn't have kids but plenty going on for those that do which made it quite a busy w/end.
Had an electric pitch close to first toilet block, nice and flat but oh so very stony as per other reviews but that didn't detract from us having a great time.
Everything was tidy including the toilets etc.
We thought the dog walk was fantastic, lovely mown grass through the tree's, its worth trying out even if you don't have a dog.
All in all a very good site.

Stayed here for 2 nights, midweek break, 2 adults 2 kids under 8.
We requested a pitch near park and charged extra £5 per night for the privilege( a little steep as it doesn't have a perfect view of the park!) So a grand total of £51 for 2 nights. Told it was a much larger pitch than others, but I wondered when we were there how small the others were then!
Pitch got extremely water logged, wellies a must. We ended up pulling camper near the road as we were truly swimming.
Some nice secluded areas at the back end of the park, with privacy from trees and bushes if you really want peace.
Park was good, kids loved it and there was a small 'woods' just behind us that runs through the middle of the site, this made adventures in the words of my 6&8 year old 'brilliant mummy!' They were small enough to keep your eye on them but big enough for them to have a great time.
Toilets: clean and warm, 2 blocks. Block nearest us had 8 toilets and 4 showers of which 1 was out of order. I'm thinking that when its megga busy it would be murder waiting.
Washing up facilities on this block were uncovered and a charge of 10p for a limited supply of warm water. Not impressed at all.
Shop seemed reasonable. Jakks Barn open but no entertainment in week, we were told there would be when I booked! Outdoor pool looked ok although we didn't use and the grass surrounding it was overgrown. Crazy golf kept us entertained for an hour. Animals about to keep kids amused. Takeaway was priced as you would expect although our £1.50 carton of chips was not value for money. Drinks reasonably priced £2.50 per pint with offers on also.
Our overall impression of the site leaves us with mixed feelings. This site has huge potential but considering it is main holiday season it looks like the site is coming to the end of the whole season. It looked shabby, overgrown and eery. We walked round the site and were amazed at how dirty the long stay caravans were. The lack of toilet facilities amazed us and the fact there is no height of season entertainment on at night. Lower Lacon has the right idea (on paper or screen) but fails to deliver when experiencing it up close. Overpriced per night am afraid to say.
