Myself and my Wife have recently returned home having spent three nights at this site. The staff are all friendly and helpful and the site kept clean and tidy. We stayed on the Island with electric hook up and the pitch had more than enough room for our tent and car. The site was busy but not too noisy, there was a certain amount of noise but this is to be expected from a site of this size and once the camp went quiet all you could hear was the noise of the river which was very relaxing.
The toilet blocks were clean but a bit dated and would perhaps benefit from being updated. The shop on site although small was ample for peoples needs and had a takeaway service serving a variety of hot and cold foods, the sausage bacon and egg cobs being our favourite, the shop also has some menu,s for takeaways that will deliver to the camp.
There are several pubs in the area all serving a wide choice of food and ales, a good one to try is the Bruce in Masham which has a very good indian restaurant called the spice lounge. Visited the Black Sheep Brewery during our stay and enjoyed a lovely meal in the Brewery,s Bistro which was reasonably priced.
This a really nice site with lots to see and do in the local area and would recommend this site to others.

The Good Bits: Just got back today after a couple of nights and I must say excellent value £38 for 2 adults and 3 kids for 2 nights, site was clean, tidy and quiet. The kids loved the river and were never away from it. They have a small shop for supplies and canoe hire with instructors. They also have fly fishing rights within the boundry of the camping park £10 all day(4 fish) £5 half day(2 fish), which is stocked( I forgot to take my rod but saw plenty of trout jumping) Site is only about a mile from Lightwater valley and there is a cricket ground at the entrance. There is plenty of places to visit within a small 5 or 6 mile radius, Ripon and Masham close by.
The Bad Bit: Only a small slide, a small sandpit and a hop scotch game for the kids but this did not bother my lot as it was waterside only for them.
I would highly recommend this site and I am in the process of booking our next trip.

We stayed here as our first camping trip, and was not disappointed. The wardens were very friendly, and the shop was reasonably priced. They even sold breakfast sandwiches, although we didn't sample any of these.
We pitched next to the river, and as we were non-electric could pitch more or less where we wanted, though the site rules stated that we should be at least 3 metres away from the next tent. Electric pitches are marked out more for obvious reasons.
The toilet block was adequate, with several toilets and 3 showers, one with a sink. They were always clean. Washing up facilities were fine, although as they were on the outside of the toilet block were prey to flying insects and the odd cobweb! (they were however under cover of the elements).
All in all this is a lovely site and we will be returning. It is very quiet at night and the canoeists during the day did not bother us, it was nice to watch them on the river whilst having breakfast!
The Bull pub in West Tanworth seems to be the best pub in close proximity, their meals are fantastic, all home-made, and their hospitality second to none!

Just returned from a week at slenningford. It is a beautifully picturesque site by the river, and is obviously popular given number of units there, but no problem with noise whilst we were there. Reception staff extremely welcoming and pleasant.
We camped in the lower area, and our only issue was the toilet / shower facilities. We found that they were inadequate for the number of people using them. There was always a bit of an odour hanging around them suggesting they were unclean, although they never actually looked dirty.
That said there was a second block for the upper area which was more pleasant. A great base for visiting the dales.

Have just had a fantastic weekend at this lovely site. We were 4 families and the site ensured that we were all pitched together. The site is clean, well looked after and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Wash facilities were clean and functional but a bit dated. The river was wonderful, the kids loved playing by it and in it-very safe as slow flowing.
Near to Black Sheep Brewery and Theakstons Brewery and we went to Lightwater Valley-only 10mins away. All in all a super weekend and a site to be recommended.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at Sleningford with my 9 year old son. We had EHU on pitch 7 which was able to easily accommodate our tent and car. The site is well kept with good security in the form of an automatic key code barrier onto the island area and a gate at the main entrance. Both these gates close at 11pm.
The river Ure runs past the site and is brilliant for kids and adults alike. There is a small beach and the river has a rapids section as well as a calmer area near the beach. You can hire a Kayak, wet suit, life vest and helmet for £20 for 3 hours which is more than enough time to wear the kids and yourself out.
Lessons are also available from qualified instructors.
The site is a mix of tourers and tents which works well with no large groups in the time I was there.
The shower and toilet block is adequate but the site may benifit from another block at the far end of the site.
This is a minor observation and does not detract from the overall excellent stay.
The site has a small well stocked shop.
The site is also close to several good pubs with fine ales and good food.
You are also not far from Ripon which has an excellent market on Thursdays.
The staff are helpful and on hand if required.
I would recommend to a friend and will be going back again.

We are a group of 3 units ( tourer, tent and camper) just home from a 7 night stay at Slenningford. We have holidayed there for the last 5 years, with the same group of friends and have always had a great time, the river is fantastic and the whole gang have a fab time there.
The grounds are kept lovely and it is a secure site, the new barrier system is a bonus. The shop is well stocked with friendly staff. The prices have become quite expensive, it won't be too bad if you are a unit with just 2 adults, but if like us you have the unit +awning +2 dogs + electric +2 kids and a pup tent ( the little popup tent was £3.50 a night even though we had already paid for the pitch and my son to sleep in the caravan ) it worked out at £217.00 for 7 nights. And we had people visit us one afternoon and they had to pay £5 for the privilege, even being charged for my 16 month old nephew !
The Pyramid block as it is known was smelly and although cleaned regularly has mildew marks at the back of the doors, ceilings etc, and it generally had a feeling of over use as there were so many people on site. We did complain to the management, but all we were told was that they were doing their best and there was a family on site who were abusing the facilities The toilet block in the courtyard is well worth the walk as it is much nicer with not as many people using it.
Having said all that we had a great holiday, we just tried to avoid the toilet block if we could.

Just got home from a lovely weekend at Sleningford. Great site with everything we needed. Toilets / showers were a bit dated but functional, plenty of washing up sinks etc. We were on pitch 7 with EHU - pitches 1 - 6 would not suit longer tents as they are quite short. Plenty of room between tents though.
Staff were lovely and the home-made brownies in the shop were so good we brought some home!
The river was lovely - small beach like area looked like a good place to have a paddle. It was great to hear the water at night.
Great site for £20 pn, site was full when we arrived, but still plenty of space on the non-EHU pitches, so proves that management don't just cram tents in.
Would definitely go again.

Just spent a very enjoyable weekend here. The pitches are large enough for the biggest family tents, the EHU pitches looked very large and well laid out too. There's water points everywhere so no lugging heavy water containers all over the site!
It feels very secure with the gated entry on to the Island and the main gates being closed at 11pm. The shop carries most things you may need in an emergency but isn't your full corner shop!
There's a laundry (untried) and a free freezer for your blocks. In the laundry room there's also a book rack on a one for one swap, brilliant if you are there to relax and read!
The kiddies play area isn't worth the name but if you're looking to put your kids in a creche then you shouldn't really be there! It's a FAMILY site and it's a real pleasure to do family stuff. There's no hard and fast rules, play footy wherever you wish but not too close to the tents etc, ball games are welcome and dogs are very welcome.
The site does get busy, we arrived to find a fully booked sign on the signpost directing us in. We were part of a group of 4 tents, they normally only allow groups of 6 to book areas but we were lucky and got a space to ourselves. That said the unbooked areas weren't overcrowded and I reckon there was room for plenty more tents but it means that there's plenty of space between tents and room to roam etc. Smart move as some places do seem to ram the tents in too much IMHO. And it's not expensive either, we paid around £40 for our weekend without an EHU, and as we'd booked it meant that the cost was cheaper as the deposit was already off the cost!
The Go2H2O guys were fabulous and were reasonably priced for our lesson too. It turned into a free for all with advice rather than a structured lesson and that was fine by us. If you want a full on lesson then they will do that too.
I wouldn't fish the river, not my sort of fishing but I saw others having a dabble, not very successfully I may add. The river is well down this year (2010). We went out to pately Bridge, for the sweet shop and park, very reasonable parking costs and the oldest sweet shop in Britain!
A couple of minor negatives. No poo bins for dog waste, it's Ok to drop it in the main bin I suppose but it go against what we normally do as most places don't want it in the bins as it attracts flies. Our area wasn't really level so we had to work out sleeping areas and sleep a bit higgledy piggledy. Both real minor things but I felt the need to mention them.
