Just came back from the bank holiday weekend at this site and it was wonderful. The welcome was great and we were escorted to our pitch which was at the end of the 'Island'. A very nice, peaceful pitch with our own private beach, although it was a trek to the facilities.

We visited Brigham rocks for the day, about 20 minutes away, although it is only for the energetic, I visited the cafe.

We went to the Bull for a meal on Sunday night, quite nice, but a little expensive.

I would recommend this site to anyone, but watch out for the river banks as some are quite steep.
Management response: Thank you for your comments, your feedback is very much appreciated. We hope to see you again soon. Thanks again, Kay & Andy (Managers)

We stayed here for a couple of nights as part of a larger group.

The wardens were friendly and efficient and directed us to our pitch by a small tractor.

The site is next to the river Ure (which was raging after a night's heavy rain). It was a great attraction for both young and older. The facilities were fine, (we've seen worse and better), although we had to work out where the fresh water and rubbish bin areas were.

The main negative for us (and for those only with tents) was the long walk to the toilets and showers (as the site is long and thin). So if you are in a tent ask for a pitch near to the facilities if this may be an issue for you.

The site is situated in a rural spot, but the towns of Ripon and Masham are a short drive away. I understand basic provisions are available at reception, but we did not use this service.

Seems a great site for families with children (lots staying there). Lightwater Valley is very near, so a great base for that.

Facilities:- plenty of toilets and showers. The water did go lukewarm the day I had my shower late in the morning. Freezer in the laundry for freezing blocks. A shop however we never used it so I can't comment.

Location:- good location, near to Ripon and Masham by car. Not sure about if you wanted to walk anywhere. If you had children I don't think you were in walking distance of anything suitable. The river was lovely.

Noise:- quiet on site but if water would keep you awake you could hear the flow of the river.

Pitch size- variable. Pitch 1 looked quite small. Our group had pitches 2-4. This was lovely but it was near to the part of the river flowing down a gradient so it was noisy, however I use earplugs when camping! Grass was kept lovely.

Customer service:- reception lady seemed quite abrupt and 'sergeant' like but would answer any queries. Perhaps it was just her way. Plenty of rules to follow around the site however not a problem. It just seemed a little strict at first.

We would visit the site again.

Just returned from a 3 night stay on this lovely site. We stayed on pitch 17 on 'the island' in the oak area and were escorted to our pitch.

The island was split into sections and even though the site was full the day we arrived there was a real feeling of space due to the way the decent sized pitches were clustered together with a large space in the middle for the children to play.

There was a little beach area just down the the river bank which our children loved to play on but you have to be a little wary of letting little ones wander far on this site due to the fast flowing river (common sense really).

The river was also well fenced off, allowing access at certain points only. At first I thought this site would have benefited from a park, but as our stay went on I thought actually no, it's not really necessary.

The long road through the area was ideal for kids cycling and scooting, and lots of the people staying there were set up for fun on the river (wet suits, kayaks etc).

Facilities were fine, clean, hot showers, 4 sociable wash up sinks under cover - all situated in a triangular central block that my daughter named 'the wigwam'. There was another block in the main courtyard where the caravans were situated too. Never used the shop but it was there if you needed it.

To top it all, a couple of pubs about a mile down the road, decent supermarkets in masham and ripon (5 miles away each), and lightwater valley on your doorstep if desired. Would recommend the 'law and order trail' in ripon - under £20 for an annual family ticket allows access to the workhouse, courthouse and police and prison museums.

Fantastic stay, get yourself there!

 What a lovely site.

We chose it because good reviews and the proximity to lightwater valley - just a couple of minutes down the road.

Friendly welcome in the reception - we were escorted to our ehu pitch on 'the island'

Nice flat well maintained pitches - infact the whole site was. We had a walk round the full site later on and it is much bigger than you think but doesn't feel overcrowded or overdeveloped.

There is a small sandy area on part of the river bank called the beach for the kids to play on.

The block was fine - always hot water available in the showers and regularly cleaned.

As mentioned elsewhere, the site could do with a play area and equipment for kids.

This was our third visit to this site and it wont be the last. We stayed for 5 nights with our two children 3 and 8.

We reserved the 'Island' area we wanted and were given what we had asked for. The pitches are very spacious. We have a twin-wheel based caravan, 7 seater car and a big awning and we still had room at the side of the awning to sit out and BBQ etc!

The site is very well maintained, shower/toilets facilities were always clean and adequate. The owners are friendly and give advice about the local area as well as having a good stock of leaflets for places to visit. The 'Beach' area is great for the kids and they loved paddling in the river, albeit in their wellies.

We went for a stroll down the river side and there is a small village with a pub, children's park and not forgetting the donkeys. The pub is lovely and has a riverside beer garden. We had an evening meal there and although it's not the cheapest of places, the food was lovely.

Short drive into Ripon where you can find all your shopping needs. There is a big Sainsburys and can highly recommend the shop overlooking the market square which sells bacon, pies etc. Their sausage rolls are lovely!

If you are travelling with children, Lightwater Valley is only a 5 minute drive away. Definitely pay a visit to the Forbidden Corner. It's about 30 minutes drive away and you have to book, but we had an amazing day - highly recommend a visit.

The icing on the cake would be a small play area for the children but even without it the kids still had lots of fun.

I visited Sleningford Watermill last weekend with a group of 30+ people, all using the river which runs directly past the campsite.

We arrived around 8pm and pitched it the almost dark. The lady on reception was friendly and relaxed, and informative about the local area.

There was plenty of space, the land was flat and still grassy, though this is now very late in the season.

Although the weather left something to be desired (it drizzled the entire time!) we had a fantastic time white water kayaking, and were really grateful for the hot showers afterwards!

There were only 3 showers in the block, and about 4 or maybe 5 loo's, but since the campsite was deserted aside from us that was not a problem.

There is a kayak shop on site and the staff are really helpful. The scenery is stunning in this area of the country,

I would highly recommend anyone visit this site!

We have just come back frim 3 fantastic nights at this fabulous campsite!

The only thing that concerned us on arrival was the smallish toilet/shower block on the 'island', however we never once queued which totally changed my initial thoughts. Would definitely go again & have already recommended to many of our friends and family.

The site was extremely clean & tidy. There were plenty of fabulous walks to entertain the children & dog & the option of additional on site activities was great, just the job to keep the kids happy.

Just returned from a 3 night stay with another family - a first visit to this site for both of us.

We received a warm welcome on arrival and were shown to our pitches - they had kindly put us on adjoining pitches on 'The Island' EHU side, even though I wanted EHU and my friend didn't.

Both pitches were spacious and level with plenty of room for the 2 tents, our shared utility tent and the 2 cars.

The 3 boys soon discovered the beach and were happy to paddle, skim stones and fish.

We looked into hiring kayaks but felt it a tad expensive at £25 per person for 1. 5 hours - next time we'll know to bring our own.

The toilet block was adequate, if a little dated, but it was clean and queues were only evident at peak times - we just left getting up and showered until a bit later (well, we were on holiday!)

We were pitched reasonable close to the wash block but some people faced a bit of a trek.

There is no play area on site but we found there was plenty of space for the children to play.

It does ask that ball games be kept away from tents/caravans and no noise after 10pm and it seemed most (although not all) campers respected this.

Ripon is only a few miles away, as is Masham.

We had a fun day out at Lightwater Valley theme park which is only 1-2 miles from the site. Discount admission vouchers were available at reception which was helpful!

It would be nice if there was a small shop on site selling basic provisions - bread, milk, bacon, sausages and newspapers, on a daily basis.

All in all, both families had a lovely time at Sleningford and we all hope to return in the not too distant future.

Our second visit to this fabulous campsite, beautiful setting alongside a river which we had great fun playing in even though it was freezing cold ( on site shop sells wet suits and shoes).

We went with 4 other families and luckily managed to get pitches all next to each other, we all have large tents but the pitches were huge and plenty of room around for the kids to play.

Toilets /shower block kept clean despite the campsite being very busy. Lovely family site with plenty to do in the area, and some beautiful walks locally.

We will be returning for definite.
