 What a lovely site.

We booked late and had no problem getting a pitch. We booked to stay for 3 nights on our way back from Yorkshire.

Received a phone call the day before we were arriving to say the wardens may not be there when we arrived so gate key and instructions would left for us in a safe location and they would see us when they came back. Great service.

The dog exersize area is superb.

The site is kept beautifully clean, the toilet/shower block is one of the best we have used.

The site is working very hard being as green as they can be, with various recycling options available and clearly labled.

They admit they have a bit of work to do between the pitches to make them green and grassy and have a programme in place after this season has closed down.

Due to family issues back home we had to leave a day early and they went beyond their means to ensure everything was ok for us before we left.

Wonderful site, lovely people. Give them a try.

This was the first site we have re-visited since getting our first caravan early last year. We enjoyed our previous visit earlier this year and the main reason for returning was that we had an opportunity to get away for the weekend without the sprogs and this site allows you to stay on your final day until 18. 00hrs. This is at no extra charge and not subject to how busy the site is, it enabled us to make full use of a two night stay in the beautiful Peak District. On the final day we packed up in the morning, then disappeared for the day before returning, hooking up and driving the three or so hours back to Suffolk.

Whilst the site is not central for the Peaks it is very convenient to access from the South and is close to the very pretty Dove and Manifold valleys where we enjoy walking the dogs.

My previous review mentioned that the foliage made the site appear scruffy, now in full greenery it was much more pleasant offering a number of private pitches and screening the site from the road.

The dog walk is excellent, the facilities are very good and the wardens very friendly and helpful.

Would happily stay for a week, but with the kids(ages 10 & 12) would only recommend a short stay as there is no play area (other then the woods); if they were unable to find other children of similar ages to befriend I could see them getting a bit bored.

Very quiet, only a third full during the school holidays so if your looking for a late booking we would highly recommend this site.

Well where do I begin about commenting on this hidden gem. Well laid out forest park, all pitches well spaced and not overlooked by vegetation screening etc. Nothing is military style laid out. All little alcoves, cubby holes etc, under a canopy of tall pine trees.

Our hard standing pitch was very large with water point and hook up, enough room for our 8 mt van, awning and 4x4. Small reception area, with gates in and out. Locked out of hours but you are provided with a key. We can honestly say they have the best kept toilets shower facilities we have ever come across, and a credit to the most friendly help full staff. Immaculate area for washing any pans etc. Nice laundry room with commercial sized drier ( £1-00 for 30 mins) and top loader w/mc and microwave. When this site was laid out, it must have a been a caravanner who helped design it. Slept in every morning as so quiet ! We loved it and will be back for sure. Thanks for a lovely stay.

What an excellent site for chilling! We stayed here for three nights, as this was our second time towing our caravan we wanted somewhere local to try out. On arrival we were greeted by the warden, who was very welcoming, he supplied us with a gate key and then showed us to our pitch. The pitch was loose stone, so if your not to steady on your feet could cause a problem and was rough underfoot. The pitch was spacious and a good distance from others allowing a lot of privacy. After setting up we had a walk to the facilities, which were excellent, very clean. The showers are push button, the water was lovely and warm all the time. At the back of the toilets was a pot wash area, we did not use this but it was lovely and clean all the time, and at the back of that was the rubbish which was very good for recycling. An overall view of this caravan site I would give it a 9. I think it could be improved by having a small shop selling a few basic groceries. Saying that Ashbourne was only 5 mins down the road. We will be going back and we highly recommend this site if you want a chilled break.

This was our third stay at this site this year.

A very pretty site especially at this time of year. Large, spacious pitches with good seclusion

From neighbouring pitches. The site was virtually full during our stay but we never had to queue for toilets or showers and the site was amazingly quiet at night in view of the number of people on site. Toilets and showers spotless, the best wifi we have experienced on any site and not expensive.

The owners were very friendly and attentive and happy to give advise on local places to visit.

Cannot praise this site too highly.

This was our first visit to this caravan site and I don't think it will be our last as it was near perfect! When we booked it we were very attracted by the photos on their website of caravans in dappled sunlight through the trees - and it was just like that over the bank holiday weekend.

We wanted a site where we could just relax over the weekend and that was precisely what we did. We had a warm welcome when we first arrived and although we didn't need any help during our stay, they were always around and about if we did need them.

Lovely big pitches - plenty of room for van, awning and car side by side which meant there was enough privacy from the neighbouring vans. The A515 does run very close to the site but we were only aware of road noise every now and then over the weekend - most of the time, the only noise we were aware of was the birds singing - blissful! And yes, the Darley Moor race track is just over the road, but to be fair, there is a link on the site's website so you can check the dates of race meetings before you book if the noise from that is going to bother you. Last weekend there was only one meeting on bank holiday Monday and we were packing up by the time it started so it didn't really bother us.

The site was full over the weekend but it wasn't at all noisy - everyone seemed to follow the site rules to quieten down by 11pm. Dog walk area was fairly small but sufficient enough to give our lab pup a bit of freedom.

To me, the showers and toilets on sites can make or break a holiday but the ones at this site were spotless and although you had to keep pressing the button in the shower I didn't mind - it stops people from staying in there too long! And in any case, they were roomy, free and hot - what more do you want? Plenty of hooks in each cubicle plus a fixed bench in the dry area - couldn't fault it. Free hairdryer too.

There was no play area on site but this didn't bother our youngest daughter as we had taken her scooter with us and she was quite happy to potter round on that making friends with the other children who were there.

We didn't eat out during our stay so can't recommend any pubs/restaurants but we are fairly familiar with the area generally and you're spoilt for choice in easy reach of this site.

One of the huge plus points about this site is that you don't need to rush about packing up on the day of departure, you can stay until 6pm at no further charge. We would have taken advantage of this but our daughter wanted to get back home as she had exams starting on Tuesday at school. Next time we would probably pack up and then go off for a few hours before coming back to pick the van up and leave then.

So in conclusion, if you don't want lots of on site facilities - play areas, restaurants and games rooms etc but are looking for a relaxing quiet site surrounded by nature then this is the site for you. We will definitely be returning.

We visited this site during the May bank holiday and found it to be very acceptable.

That said I struggle to see how people give it 9 out 10.

The toilet blocks were spotless but with there only being three showers per sex queues were evident for the showers, there was just two crock washing sinks (both outside), again queues were common. Putting a peg in the ground (due to the hardcore that the pitches are made of) was a task in itself and the limited space between the trees meant that even small units like ours could not get the awning up in a uniform manner ie we had to bend it round the tree roots. Others have made a comment about the race circuit nearby, it had a meeting on the day we left, It was noisy, I recommend you check if there is a meeting before you book, there is a about 6 per year!

For us it was clean. Reasonably priced (except the wifi) and well kept and I think 7 out of 10 is a fair score & yes we would return.

We booked to stay at this campsite for the May bank holiday weekend.

What attracted me to this site was the website with all the woodland and trees, I paid my deposit then realised a few weeks after we where invited to a wedding on a Friday, so I telephoned the caravan park to ask if we could arrive on the Saturday and stay to the Tuesday which was no bother at all.

When we arrived the owners had our bay ready for us. I loved the site as soon as we arrived. The bays are very large with plenty of space between them, which is good, this way you are not looking on to the next caravan this was also best for us as we have a continental van.

The owners really go out of there way to help if you need anything, The next day after we arrived we popped into Ashbourne then realised there was a problem with our Car which needed to be seen by a garage, the owners where really helpful as we explained that we might need to stay another night, this wasn't a problem they also had to give us some milk till we could get to a shop. Later that evening they came to us to ask if we would need anything from the shops the next day, which was very kind of them.

Toilets and showers where always kept clean. In the reception area they have loads of leaflets on different places to visit, maybe the next time we visit we will be able to explore more.

Gates where always kept shut and pad locked on an evening but you where given a key so you could come and go as you pleased.

There was children on the site but there is no play area, but with all the woodland this did not bother them as they made a swing and camp dens, so they made them selves very busy.

There is also a pub which is not to far in the car, which did two meals for a tenner, which was really nice.

I would honestly say this is one of the best campsite we have been to and we will be returning in the near future.

Thank you for you for a very nice stay!

The Caravan site was very nice and relaxing set in woodland about a mile from the lovely historic town of Ashbourne. The toilet and shower facilities were clean and tidy and they had good disabled toilet and shower. There was also washing machine and drier which took pound coins. The sites dog Bramble was very cute 'Puppy Alsation' and the owners were friendly. My only quarm with the site was that the site was a bit money grabbing. We had already paid almost in full by deposit more than they had asked for but the 1st words from him was that will be £20 pounds etc. We bought a weeks internet access for £10 as this worked out better value despite us only staying for 5 nights. After I bought the internet and was given a code I was told it would only work on one device and this was indeed the case. I needed to use my Android phone and my other half her ipad but they wanted another £10 per device which I wasn't willing to pay. We could get no TV picture from our indoor ariel so this was another reason for the internet. We found that the connection was really slow and constantly buffering TV content so we gave up watching on the ipad.

In a nut shell site very nice and owners friendly just avoid being ripped off for internet access at £10 per device and for a connection that's very poor.

Spent long bank holiday at this site. Though it was our first time, it may possibly have been our last. If we did decide to return we definitely wouldn't go during holiday time.

The site is clean and tidy but be aware of the seasonal caravans. We were between three outfits and realized that having no children of our own did not stop their children playing on our pitch running between the caravan and car, throwing branches just inches away from our van and hitting trees without any comment at all from the adults who thought it was perfectly acceptable, as also was the lack of remorse when one outfits untethered dog decided to run over in an aggressive manner to ours. Though the pitches are described as hard standing we did find the ground to be quite soft. The wardens are very friendly and easy going with a slight anything goes attitude. The dog walk is basic (be careful of the chicken wire), but sufficient as there are many places just a short drive away to walk.

While it is nice to find a site that isn't full of rules and regulations it seems this site has gone too far the other way.
