We had an enjoyable few days at Woodland Caravan Park. On first appearance the site seemed scruffy, but this was simply the undergrowth and bracken that had yet to show any colour. In the height of summer I would think the site would look quite different.

The location is not particularly picturesque being adjacent to the A515 but if you are looking for a convenient site when arriving from the South then this is the place. Just South of Ashbourne it offers easy access to the Southern end of the Peak District without having to lump the caravan up any hills.

The facilities are excellent although you have to keep pushing the shower button which is a bit annoying.

It was our dogs favourite site, the fenced off section of wood allowed our Bedlington and Whippet to charge about off the lead to their hearts content.

No play area but the kids quickly found friends and the den building duly commenced. Worth taking their bikes if you can; we didn't and regretted it.

As I have said we were not there long but we did walk a quieter stretch of the river Dove at Wolfscote Dale North from the busy Dovedale stretch. This was blissfully quiet and very pretty. We parked at Alstonefield and enjoyed a pint at the Pub on return to the car.

All good fun.

Had a great time at this site, but more so, so did my kids!

The site pitches are really well spaced and offer a good degree privacy, with children able to play very safely building dens and generally messing around in the surrounding woodland.

The toilet/shower block is excellent and very warm, which given the weather this year is most welcome. The only minor downside is, the showers are operated by a push button that stops after about 20s, so you have to keep pressing it to get your shower - a minor downside though. The block is always very clean, and given the size of the site, never seems crowded.

The site is really easy to get to being just south of Ashbourne, and there is plenty to do on your doorstep.

We felt very relaxed from the moment we got there, and really had a great time. The owners are very nice people who are always willing to help if needed

We'll definitely be going back as this has to be one of the best sites we've visited. We visited the site without the greenery being present on the trees, etc, so I imagine the site will be even better in the late spring/summer months.

Lovely site set in woodland which is very easy to find off the A515. The site was site quite snowy, which the kids loved, but the pathways and roads were clear. The dog walking field is all enclosed so no fear of your dog running off.

The shower blocks are lovely and clean with plenty of hot water and hooks to hang your stuff on. The only downsides of this site are

1) because it was unusually cold for the time of year, the 10amp power tripped quite often. Fine if you've caused the problem as you shouldn't overload the system but we met our neighbour a couple of times at the EHU point who said that he'd tripped both his and our power by going over his 10amps. Not sure why one EHU tripping would trip both EHU supplies but it did. Quite often! I don't see this being a problem in the warmer months though as caravans won't need as much heating.

2) Check the Darley Moor racetrack website for race dates before staying. There were two days of motorbike racing starting at 10am and lasting most of the day. You can see the racetrack from the site so the noise is LOUD and the smell if burning rubber is in the air. The owner advised that there are six meets a year there so worth checking before booking.

Just spent another lovely night at Woodland - we'd been worried about the snow but all the local roads were fine and Tony and Carol have done a great job clearing the pitches. Warm friendly welcome as always, and we were delighted to find that Wifi has now been installed throughout the site - it was very fast, and reasonably priced too.

The new heating in the showers is also a great addition, and unlike a previous reviewer, we found it very effective. It was minus something or other outside, but beautifully cosy in the shower block.

Didn't feel like cooking when we arrived after a long drive, so went to the Stepping Stones in Ashbourne on Tony and Carol's recommendation. It was fantastic - two really good steak dinners for a tenner - and only five minutes down the road.

All in all, this is a great site - beautiful, tranquil, with good level well-spaced pitches and spotlessly clean facilities. We didn't notice any road or aviation noise (although that might be because of all the wine we drank!) - we slept VERY well, and awoke to birdsong - perfect!

We heartily recommend this site.

Just spent the weekend at this site, only our second ever trip with our caravan, so still quite new to experiencing sites and knowing what to expect, but thought I would leave my views on this site.

On initial telephone contact to book our weekend, we received a very helpful, friendly and welcoming response.

On arrival much the same, we were told we could choose our own pitch and given information about the site and facilities. We pitched up on a pitch about mid way up the site, that (as they all are) was hard standing. The weather was quite wet during our stay but the pitch did drain well and was not 'puddled'. Road noise as has been mentioned in other reviews was not for us a particular problem, partly because of the constant tap tap tap on the roof from the rain and dripping trees, and also as it was cold, all our caravan windows and skylights were closed. I would imagine that some road noise would be apparent if in warmer weather windows etc were open but I don't feel it would be excessive.

Site facilities are adequate, with clean showers and toilets, a washing up room with a microwave and washing machines (approx. £3 to do a cotton wash). A couple of small niggles with the toilets and showers. Firstly as already mentioned the lights are on a motion timer, the gents lights went off in about 8-10 minutes which can leave you in a difficult position in the dark (it did!) at quiet times. It was cold, and the toilet/shower block although heated was not warm. I had to run the hot tap for a very long time to get any hot water, again the site was very quiet and with the taps not being used it took a long time to get any hot water through, in view of this I decided to use the shower in my van. In the summer I don't feel this would be a problem. Finally on the Sunday afternoon unfortunately the gents cubicles were not clean and un-flushed; I don't blame the site for this as they did keep the toilets generally very clean and can't check after every use, more to do with inconsiderate guests on the site.

All in all a charming woodland site with good access to Ashbourne and the surrounding areas. This is not a pristine regimented in rows type of site but rather a rustic woodland with irregular pitches dotted about giving you a real feeling of being secluded in the woods.

Excellent value for money with hook up included in the price. One very nice touch is that you can stay until 6pm on the day of departure without being charged a 'late departure' fee, so great for making a full weekend of it.

If you only have a satellite dish in your caravan be aware that the site is in the woods and you probably won't get a 'sight line' to the satellite, however the freeview signal is good and even a basic Omni-directional antenna was sufficient.

We will definitely visit this site again and would imagine that in the summer months it would be even nicer.

We've just come back from a 3 night stay at Woodland Caravan Park.

We have a folding camper.

The park is all hardstanding, so no pitching in any muddy grass. The ground was wet, but it drained well.

The facilities were great, very clean toilets and showers, although the push button showers were a pain, as they don't stay on for long, not good if you're trying to wash your hair!

The light comes on when you enter the toilets / showers, and goes off after about 15 minutes, so if you're in the shower for longer than that, you end up in the dark - although, standing on the bench in the shower cubicle and waving your towel at the sensor does make it come back on!

There is a fenced off dog walking area, which our dog loved, it is within the woods, so lots of smells and branches for him to jump over.

The man in reception was very knowledgeable about the local area, and recommended quite a few different walks to us.

The only down side to this lovely site is the road noise, as it's right on the A515, the noise doesn't even stop at night, there is constant traffic going past. It is also right under the flight path of East Midlands airport, so you have aeroplane noise too.

Stayed here for only one night during the first week of September and was totally impressed with the whole setup.

Nice big pitches, all with hard-standing and EHU.

Toilets were immaculate as were the showers (which were free) and the pot washing facilities provided loads of hot water.

There is a washing machine, tumble dryer and microwave available to use (washer/dryer takes coins). There is also a fully equipped disabled toilet.

There is no children's playground, but that suited us (we took are 2 children aged 3 and 8) as we prefer to entertain the kids ourselves anyway.

Dovedale and Carsington Water are both only a 20 min drive away, and the town of Ashbourne is just down the road - fantastic place to visit in it's own right.

All in all a very pleasant stay, and we will be going back here again very soon.

Excellent site. Spotlessly clean. A credit to the caretakers. The prices are very reasonable and the site was lovely and quiet in th evenings. There is a little noise from the nearby road but this quietens at night. The shower and toilet block is a pleasure to use and there was plenty of warm water. Being just a few miles from Ashbourneand with a pub serving food in Clifton village you have plenty of choice if you want a day out or an evening meal. Cannot fault it.

This was our first time out in our new Caravan and we loved it. We only went for two nights to try it out but ended up keeping the van there for three weeks, going back at weekends.

The kids loved it playing in the wood and making dens,

The toilets were very clean and nice hot showers, good size Hard standing pitches under the trees with water taps not too far away.

Very affordable site for staying at and only few miles from Ashbourne town centre, would definitely go again.

Lovely little site set in some woods.

Managers are excellent, keep it well run & clean.

Kids love to play in the woods. The enclosed dog run sets a standard few other sites even contemplate offering.

The facilities were immaculately clean, but got push button showers.

There is a huge garden centre 2 mins drive towards Ashbourne with a good cafe for meals. A bit further just outside Ashbourne is an M&S food, Homebase, Halfords & Majestic amongst others to cover most eventualities.

The area has a wealth of chocolate box villages, such as Osmaston with smashing pubs serving real beer and decent food.

The only downside is the noise from Darley Moor circuit, so if you really don't appreciate motorsport noises, check with the circuit to see if there's anything scheduled. Although you could always go & watch!
