August 2005 Our first visit to this site. Overall a brilliant site, the kids (12 and 15) had a great time. Mass games of footie, table tennis and pool kept them entertained. The swimming pool is great for the younger kids, but not really big enough for the older ones. We did not eat at the pub, but found the drinks a reasonable price. All the facilities were clean, I was a bit concerned about there only being 5 showers for the whole site, but never had to wait, so obviously not a problem even though the site was very full. The camping pitches are not marked, we were just told to make sure we were at least 6 mtrs away from the next tent, this mean't that we had a lot of room around the tent. They don't charge extra for gazebo's etc which is a bonus. Only downside was a couple of large groups (3 or more tents) that didn't seem to understand what quiet means, this resulted in some very loud singing just before midnight, however a word with one of the staff the following day seemed to do the trick, there was no repetition of the noise. Their booking conditions do state that they allow group bookings but are aware that this is often where noise problems occur. As we encountered problems with two different groups this may happen quite regularly and maybe something they need to reconsider. There is a lack of lighting on the site after dark but this was not a big problem and the kids were still able to walk and cycle about safely with torches. The only other minor problem was that they only have one washing machine and one dryer for the site, but if you are only staying for a shorter period of time then this would not be an issue. We will definitely return here but more than likely for a long weekend as we found 10 days to be a bit too long. Mainly due to the distance to a lot of the main attractions in Norfolk. But if you want a few days away on a site where you know the kids will be safe and happy then this could be it, just hope that there are no big noisy groups there at the time.

July 2005 What can i say Our third wisit this year already and back again in September. This site is superb. Massive Pitches, Clean and Very tidy enviroment. You are made to feel very welcome, and it is somewhere you will want to return again and again. On site Resturant and Public House and outside pool ( not heated ). Very Good for walkers and Cyclists alike. If you enjoy a Quiet Peaceful Holiday and safe enviroment for your children this is a fantastic site!

June 2005 Just been back to the Dower House again I see they have up graded the shower blocks the the push button style so you no longet have to pay. Clean but still not a lot of privacy. But the site over all is lovely the pool was cleaned regularly, staff very helpful, good sized pitches. Will definitely be going back.

September 2004 A good clean flat site. The weekend we were here it was Very windy but the site appears to be well sheltered and whilst we had lots of tree debris on the tent we hardly felt a thing inside the tent. Really relaxing site. Thetford Forest is nearby with lots of recreational facilities.
In addition to Tesco and Lidl Thetford also has Sainsbury’s and Aldi. We eat at the on-site pub one night but can’t recommend it. Food was cheap , drink was not! Definitely going again next summer.

June 2004 Pretty, well maintained site with a pub serving basic pub grub and an outdoor pool. The location is lovely and secluded within Thetford forest and there are plenty of walks and bike rides. It is a bit off of the beaten track with the nearest supermarket a 10 min drive away as the previous reviewer said but is is a good base for many local attractions such as Banham Zoo. I would definitely return here. The only downside was that the showers and toilet facilities, whilst clean, could not cope with the demand at the weekend, it was the first time I've had to queue.

June 2004 Good size flat pitch and well marked out. Bar was a bit on the pricey side and food menu was basic, allsorted burgers and chips and not alot else. Nearest pub about 3 miles away by bike. 8 miles away by car. Toilets and shower blocks were very clean and tidy. Good cycle rides around the camp site. Staff were friendly and site was very clean and tidy. We stayed 4 days and found this to be long enough. Good base for touring Norfolk. Shop was a bit basic, no papers and limited stock, Tesco and Lidl 6 miles away in Thetford. I will revisit again but only for a short weekend.

May/June/July 2003 As first timers with a caravan, we found Dower House a lovely place, peaceful and tranquil. There are plenty of walks you can take and it is central for visiting the surrounding area. The showers and toilets were clean, the shop was well stocked and the bar was done out nice. The only downside for me was the very uneven road which you use to drive into the park but then you can't have everything, after all it is a camping holiday.

august 2003 We stayed here for three nights over the bank holiday weekend. Showers were unreliable and not very private. Our daughter enjoyed using the pool. The site shop was basic. Very little lighting so torches were needed as soon as night fell. We felt that the facilities needed some updating. Also found the freezers were not freezing the freeze blocks. Twice saw staff unblocking sewer as a result of toilets unable to cope with numbers on site. The park is nicely situated.

july 2003 It was a nice site well situated in the forest, The pools were quite small and dirty would not let my children go in them. Showers are not private you have to walk through the bar garden, lighting was poor, no lights on the fire points or on site and no map of site. Some of the staff are quite rude, It is a site for the quieter families. I will not be going again with friends, I will be going on my own with my family. If you are down the bottom of the site the wc's were quite a walk away and with no lighting you would need a touch. Site shop very basic. If you needed anything more the coop in East Harling is about 3 miles down the road takes about 30/45 mins to cycle.

August 2002 Been here with previous caravans a few years ago and decided to see if it was still as nice as it was before. Happy to say it was! A pleasant site situated well inside the forest, giving plenty of peace and quiet. it has a couple of outdoor pools, a nice pub on site, serving reasonable meals. It has a nice wooded play area for the kids along with a couple of badminton / volleyball nets, to keep all entertained. look at WWW.DOWERHOUSE.CO.UK--a good website for a change!!
Good clean showers and toilet blocks (token showers--20p)
Well worth a visit
