This is a lovely site. We chose the furthest, smallest, field, near the river, with an amazing view over the surrounding countryside. The owners could not have been more welcoming or helpful.

Once over the surprise element, the loos and shower were fine, and will certainly be a talking point for a while! If I have any complaint, it is only that the site was busy, so two loos were probably not enough - but there again, forming an orderly queue to poo all added to the camaraderie!

It was a very much back-to-nature experience, which was what we wanted, so weren't fussed about the lack of electric hook-ups.

The nearest shops were in Horam, which was about a 40 minute walk away - very small general stores, very large offie!

Sitting around a blazing log fire toasting marshmallows is somethng that will stay with us for a long time.

Highly recommended.

We stayed at Merrylands twice in 2011, once for a long weekend and the other time for 5 days in the week. Marrylands is a beautiful spot which offers peace and quiet and seclusion in beautiful countryside. Merrylands offers basic but clean facilities.

It was perfect for us, 2 - 3 families with young kids and a dog. There were some lovely walks from the site which ended up at a pub. It was fantastic sitting out in the evening by a fire watching the stars.

Maggie and Sean are excellent hosts and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. As a seasoned camper I would highly recommend this site if you want to experience the beautiful Kent countryside in a natural back to basics setting

We stayed here for the August Bank Holiday weekend in a group of 13. Booking over the phone was easy and as it was the BH we had to pay a deposit which we did easily over paypal, no posting cheques.

The site was easy to find. It looks like a new sign has been fitted, as we saw it easily from the South.

We arrived when the site was fairly empty and were directed to an area where there was plenty of room for us to pitch our 7 tents.

The staff are full on hippies, and whole place is run like some sort of commune, which we loved!

The eco loos were fine, any problems coming purely from user error on the part of other campers. Men are required to sit in order to keep liquids and solids separate, perhaps they could create a urinal. The one shower was good too, with plenty of hot water, but again they could do with adding one or two more.

It was lovely to be so cut off from everywhere, and although busy it didn't seem it. The owners drove down and sold us wood with free kindling, and provided us with a free laminated map showing us how to walk off-road to two different pubs in the two nearby villages.

£10 per night, per person isn't the cheapest and a few grumbles could be heard from some in my group, but it did manage to keep the riffraff at bay.

Just returned from a fantastic weekend camp here. We stayed for two nights. Three adults seven children and two tents. We were able to pick our own pitch and had plenty of room.

The children were quite fascinated by the eco toilets and managed them very well. We had a lovely time around the camp fires and availed ourselves of the hot shower which was available to use.

The children had plenty of room to play safely and it was very friendly, the owners were extremely helpful and we will definitely be going back for a longer stay.

Plenty of nice walks. We did not venture off-site other than to nature ramble but I know that there are nice local pubs within driving distance.

Price was a definite plus.

We had a great time despite the lashings of rain this morning. The site is set in a beautiful location, with 3 fields to choose from, running alongside a river. There is lots of walks to explore from the site, and we took a route that led us up woodland and through farmland.

The toilets are clean and lit at night, they are compost toilets, as this is a basic campsite, basic camping in a gorgeous setting. The kids were able to run wild, make lots of noise, and enjoy the firemaking and toasted marshmallows.

We missed the entrance as we came in from the north, and the sign is slightly angled in the other direction, so drive slowly and look out for the gate posts and tarmac entrance way.

The owners of the site couldn't have been more welcoming and hospitable. Providing wood, and great company.

I will be recommending this to all those that I know share the passion for camping!

What a wonderful site. We were invited down for the preview weekend and spent a great couple of days here. It is 'back to basics' camping, (echo friendly compost toilets) but the location is great, with bags of space, and level pitches.

The third field has some great secluded spots. If your looking for luxury camping then this site is not for you, however if your looking for that true camping experience, then I can highly recommend this site.

Shaun and Maggie were excellent hosts, and provided us with plenty of logs for the open fire, which were really reasonably priced, and kept us going all night.

We found a couple of good walks (the site is just of the Wealden Way) and there is a local Pub, although we chose to cook over an open fire, which the children loved, not many sites that let you do this now.

We had a great time here and the compost loos were an interesting adventure! It is great to find a campsite where we can have fires and pitch where ever, nothing like the rabbit warren some campsites can be these days. Loads of space and basic necessities (loos, showers).
Definitely for those who are happy with basic living but great to be outdoors, no hassle, no noise, just a relaxed happy atmosphere!

Would definitely recommend!

Lovely campsite which is well run by the most helpful people ever.

We booked for two nights but only stayed for one due to the torrential rain and gale force winds! Not ideal for camping!

We found the campsite without any problems, well sign posted. Plenty of room to pitch our tents, two big fields to choose from. We chose the lower field.

Eco composting toilets are exactly as described and very different from the 'normal' flushing type! Didn't whiff too bad but they possibly could in warmer weather???

Map and compass in hand we set off for a long leisurely walk. Very enjoyable walks all around and one of the bridle ways is near the entrance to the lower field. It would seem that a lot of the local village pubs close between 3-6pm so bare this in mind if your in need of refreshment on your hikes!

All in all a lovely basic campsite that is run really well by friendly people.

This is a REAL camp site with none of the frills which other sites seem to think are necessary. The waterless toilets are an experience, but compared to some sites really clean and scent free. Surprisingly. When the site is full could really do with another of these wondrous contraptions. The showers are small and very basic, my children weren't keen at all, but adults found them to be hot and wet, what more do you need. The fields are large and allow spacious pitches, even when fully booked. The ground is sloping and bumpy but in a lovely setting, so no complaints. The owners sold logs of an evening and small camps fires sprung up all over the site, perfect for marshmallows. However, there were no washing up facilities so don't forget your bowl and wash stand! Even though it rained a lot we found loads of activities locally to suit ALL age ranges and interests. Would come again, thanks.

Just back from three very enjoyable nights at this site. Having an open fire really makes a difference. Proper camping!

It's a really large site so we were not on top of our neighbours and the kids had plenty of safe space to roam around and explore. Pretty flat, too, so I didn't find myself squashed against the side of the tent in the morning.

There was a very relaxed atmosphere and all the other campers on site were respectful with regard to noise later on in the evening. The people who run the site were very friendly, got to know them quite well having a chat with them when buying logs (very reasonably priced too, compared to other sites we've used) and getting instructions on how to use the compost loo. The write up on this website is right. They don't pong at all!

Overall, three good nights at a really good price (£30 for three children and two grown-ups). Will definitely return.
