Had a wonderful stay at Merrylands - thankyou!
The site was very quiet and we were able to relax and enjoy the wild field and surrounding nature. Total recharge away from reality!
Weald walks very easily accessible to explore the countryside.
Facilities are very basic and align with wild camping which is exactly what we wanted - might recommend taking a washing up bowl and bucket for if the site was busy! Used the open overhead shower for a freshen up, hot water was available (heated by logs) and whilst it was not as well constructed as the wooden cubicles housing compost loos, it did the job! Recycling facilities provided.
Maggie is chief at Merrylands - very friendly and laid back.
Paid per micro-camper van and selected own pitch. Loved that could have a fire on existing fire patch, not charged extra for the privilege or for a fire pit or on the condition of buying their wood (Though fire supplies are available to buy at Merrylands).
Need to look carefully for the campsite name on the entrance as it was not clear and we drove past initially. However, this led us to the nearby village shop which had lovely things and a cafe!
Would definitely return and recommend for a traditional, authentic and environmentally conscious camping experience :-)

Very low key campsite. This is a site for those who like a space to put their tent and not much else.
The composting toilets are fine, not much to go wrong here. While rustic there clearly care gone not their construction.
Washing up facilities are available, but unsheltered. Didn’t try the shower, but looked clean, though again rustic.
Lots of nooks and crannies for older children to explore, not so good for us with a 2 year old but that’s on us.
I’d happily recommend & return, as long as you’re into rustic and back to basics you’ll love it here.
Also, I wouldn’t recommend for vans with low tanks underneath, as the access from the road to the camping field is quite bumpy and you may ground.

Lovely setting, so quiet and really uncrowded. There were approx 8 tents or small groups of campers spread out over two fields; you'd be hard pushed to find a campsite where you only had one other group of campers in your field during a school-summer-holiday weekend, but that's exactly what we had at Merrylands!
I woke up to the sound of nightingales each morning, and fell asleep to the gushing of the stream nearby. Maggie was really amiable and the stars and campfires were lush.
There was absolutely no reception for Vodafone but it gave me a pleasant excuse to turny phone off and relax.
Unfortunately a combination of bad weather prior to our arrival and a covid-related lack of gravel on the track meant getting the car into and out of the campsite was a very muddy affair which meant a few vehicles needed a push, but I think this was very much a case of unfortunate extenuating circumstances.

Love this place, such a chilled out campsite, pitch up where you like, get a fire going (good priced wood), no phone service, perfect for a back to basics getaway.
Will be returning.
No toilets but given a portable toilet and a tent if needed to put it in.
Wood fired showers (didn't use).

Merrylands is a lovely relaxed campsite run on eco principals with a hippy vibe. The owners are friendly and on hand to help.
The location is beautiful and there are lots of walks starting from the site with great pubs in walking distance.
The campsite facilities are basic so this isn't the place for you if you like banks of showers, washing up blocks and sparkling children's activities.
For me, that was exactly why I really liked it and will be coming back!

We had a great stay recently at Merrylands. Warm welcome, beautiful, peaceful location and an easy going vibe in camp.
Our own toilet tent worked out fine and plenty of fire wood available.
Loved the various walks around camp and discovering the local pubs.
The gelato ice cream van visit to camp was also a nice surprise.
Felt fully relaxed after our stay.
Thank you and hopefully see you again soon!

Just spent 3 lovely nights at Maggies lovely campsite. She’s a very nice woman snd she makes your stay simple and comfortable. This is not buzz cut grass and high-end camping, this is proper camping.
You can make your own fires wherever you want, the kids went exploring and swimming in the stream and came back from a little pool with newts snd tadpoles.
The fields are open with loads of room for games and space for everyone.
All the other campers nearby were friendly. Hot water showers, composting loos, bird song everywhere.
We had a wicked stay. Our second time here and we’ll deffo go back, probably this summer even.
Couple of nice pubs nearby too!

Very basic but chilled out. If you want manicured lawns and spotless facilities this is not the site for you.
If you want to let your kids run free and chill out round a fire then you are in luck! Great walks to pub nearby.
We will return soon. Thanks
