We're returning to Sandy Balls in August 09, following a really successful short break there last year.
Found the site easily and were pleased that there were no main roads anywhere near the site to disrupt the peace and quiet. On arrival we were greeted by very helpful reception staff who made us feel welcome straight away.
We were in Northfield within a 1 minute walk of a choice of two immaculate shower blocks. Even in August we never had to queue for a (free & hot) shower at any time of day. The blocks were cleaned daily, I think more than once as well. Always very well stocked, never seemed to be any facilities out of order, plenty of private cubicles for cleaning your teeth etc and good hairdriers next to large mirrors. 5 STARS.
Our EHU pitch was roomy, well drained and the EHU, aerial point and water were within easy reach.
The children's play area was across the road from our pitch and was clean and well maintained, had lots of equipment to keep the children occupied and was closed at dusk. Our younger girls loved it and were over there all the time.
The supermarket is really well stocked and not over-priced. There is a Tesco in Fordingbridge which we visited a couple of times to stock up on groceries, but for fresh bread, milk, papers etc we were more than happy to use the site shop.
We hired gravel pegs, TV aerial and bikes from the cycle/hire centre. Service was friendly, but it did get a bit busy at the counter at times and there didn't seem to be that many staff around. Not a major inconvenience though and price was just about acceptable. Taking the girls' bikes this year though, because it's a longer stay and it would be too pricey to hire.
We used the site as a base to see some of the New Forest (on bikes), and to visit Bournemouth. This year we're going further afield to Portsmouth as really good access within an hour max.
We normally don't return to the same site as we like to travel around and see new places. However, we were sad to leave Sandy Balls and felt we just didn't have enough time there last year to enjoy everything that was on offer. We can't wait to go again!

Sandy Balls is a great place to come with children. Our pitch was near to the children's woodland play area which was lovely, safe and large. The children's entertainment was very good, with plenty for them to do which was free and a clown and disco on the Saturday night.
The pools were lovely, although the indoor pool was possibly a little too warm! All pool facilities were clean and well staffed.
The shop stocks many useful items, including food, but like so many of these shops on campsite, was hideously overpriced.
The food in the Woodside Inn was good value and the Bistro serves great pots of tea which serve 4 people for £2.80, which is good value.
Showers were a little grubby by the time we used them, at about 9am on Sunday morning, but I suppose that's to be expected really. The water was hot and free though!
All in all, Sandy Balls is great for families and offers good value. We'll definitely be back!

We've been to this site many times and whilst it isn't the cheapest we always enjoy our stay.
Some of the pitches can be tight for a twin axle to turn into but with mains drainage + water and hookup they're worth it. You can also plug into the bollards for TV which provides at least 10 channels if I recall.
The large area for kicking a ball about is good as is the dog walk though I wish more people would clean up after their dogs. The pool can be busy especially when the weather is poor but with small kids it's great to get them showered off afterwards so it doesn't cut into their evening. That said the showers are great.
The new restaurant is a bit pricey but when we were there it had no shortage of patrons.
Warning! If you go into Fordingbridge for a chinese takeaway be prepared to wait however the food is good. They should offer a delivery service as most of the customers appeared to be from the site! The shop on site is good and includes bread baked on the premises.
Waitrose in Ringwood is 20 minute drive.
It goes without saying that being in the New Forest is also a big plus.

We went as a group of 4 tents and in our opinion the booking should not have been accepted. This camp is fine if you are just one family with young children but is unsuitable for a group or families with teenagers. There is a very strict 11pm 'curfew', with security guards to enforce this, you cant even sit inside your tent and talk without security coming over and telling you off, it seems 3 strikes and your thrown off site immediately. We are NOT a rowdy group, neither are we loud or abusive in any way but we were made to feel like naughty children. The club and bars close at 10.30pm and there is nothing at all to entertain older children.
On a brighter note, the site is very pretty in a great location, and the camp is very well maintained. Plenty to do for younger children (at a price). Swimming pool was nice but worked on a band system which is not very convenient. Pub menu varied and food was good.

We visited for a long weekend, and although the weather was bad the campsite offered excellent indoor facilities for eating, drinking and for the kids, with a ball park and amusement arcade.
The clubhouse had evening entertainment directed at the kids up until about 9pm which was fantastic, the kids all enjoyed themselves thoroughly. It served well priced good food from breakfast through to dinner.
The swimming pool was clean and well thought out with half inside and half out.
The toilet blocks were clean and not too far from the pitch and the showers worked excellently.
The activities field was excellent and we were able to make use of this during a break in the rain.
The staff were helpful and friendly and the shop was large and well stocked.
Overall a fantastic site even despite the rain.

We stayed during summer hols so expected site to be busy. Everyone felt very crammed in even though each pitch was individually hedged off, our pitch felt very cramped only having 2 foot of grass outside of the awning barely enough room to sit outside let alone put the table out! That said some of the pitches appeared better spaced (mainly those one the ends or corners of the roads). The site itself is vast, there are various children's play area that are very nice although most of the children seemed to spend all day racing round the site on bikes(this actually became quite a hazard), showers & toilets were fine considering amount of people there & we never had to queue. They advertise all these wonderful activities for kids, but they all come at a price, $8 for tie dying a bag or cap, $7 to paint a mug, (we have 4 children & simply couldn't afford this). The pool was ok a little small for such a large site hence having to wait 2 hours to swim, but you could usually go straight into outdoor pool. The shop stocked most things but was quite expensive (which we expected, but there is a large co-op & small tesco express in fordingbridge.)
In all this was not the site for us too noisy until midnight & later, far too many pitches squeezd in. The only saving grace was the peaceful woodland walk.

The site is well laid out although the pitch we were on was challenging to get onto due to two overgrown hedges and a narrow road. Reception was interesting as it had no desk. When asking staff for something outside the norm they were unable to help.
The site is ideal for cycling and walking in the New Forest, however, the routes (which you have to pay for) that the site provides have too much roads on. We cut through the stables opposite and got straight into the Forest. The cycle centre was very good
The night time entertainment consisted of a typical pub singer doing soul every night. The swimming pools had an hour's wait for a session. This is the only site we've been to where you have to pay to go in the bubble pool. The kids' entertainment all came with a price tag, eg, plate making £2.50+.
The main problem with the site is it only delivers the minimum in the price, everything else has to be paid for separately.
Be careful with your pitch as some pitches are a long way from the amenities.

We enjoyed this site and the many facilites on offer, being the main school holidays it was fully booked and very busy although I never had to queue for the showers and we got tables in the Woodside inn and bistro without problem. The food was good, we also got take way breakfast on our last day, all the food was good.
We hired bikes on our final day and spent the afternoon following one of the preset routes around country lanes ( 8 miles with 2 pubs and a tearoom stop) half way round one of the bikes got a puncture and after phoning the cycle centre they came out to us with a replacement bike within 15 minutes.
The shop is well stocked and the fresh croissants lovely. Although there was quite a queue for them in the mornings.
The area is outstanding, plenty of places to visit and plenty of pubs to eat in offering very good food. The historic docks at Portsmouth were great as well as the motor museum in Beaulie.

Fantastic site in a fantastic location. Clean, fully featured shower block. Good play areas. Lovely indoor & outdoor swimming pools. Pub offered varied menu and good prices. Quality was good too as was the take-away. Shop offered virtually everything you might need including some camping / caravanning essentials. Plenty to do for the kids. Cycle hire was handy should you not wish / forget to take your bikes! Good cycle routes are available if requested of the beautiful surrounding area. Some lovely pubs nearby. We ate at the Fighting Cocks just up the road which was nice but a little expensive. All in all one of the best sites we have been to and highly recommended.

We have just returned from this excellent site.
The facilities are superb. The toilet blocks are modern well maintained and very clean.
The swimming pool are amongst the best I have seen at any site.
The Pub, resteraunt and shops are a reasonable price and pleasant.
The pitch itself was of a reasonably large size with a TV point as well as mains drainage and its own water supply. The electrical supply was 16 amp so no snags there.
The Staff were polite and helpful without exception.
There is a pub a short walk away and fordingbridge is just down the road.
The site is in the middle of the New Forest park and just a few hundred yards away are the free roaming ponies and cattle, in fact one day we saw one of the ponies trying to get in through the front door of the pub.
All in all I feel it is 100% safe to give this site a strong reccomend.
