A beautiful sheltered site within high walls, with direct access via a side gate (you get a key to it) to the Chatsworth grounds. We stayed four nights here and didn't move the car, just walking within the estate and out to the nearby villages (you can walk to Bakewell too if you feel so inclined - lovely town). Ideal site for a wide range of interests, as the Chatsworth estate offers a lot to visitors. Pitches are not as big as on some sites, and although the wardens optimistically ask you not to drive on the grass, you'll have trouble getting pitched up if you don't. There are also long queues to check in at peak times, and rigs have to be stacked up, which causes congestion - though the site does try to deal with it and succeeds most of the time! That said, do go - it's well worth it - just don't take a huge rig!

It was wet and there were puddles on the pitches - but this is still one of the best sites that we have stayed at and we are going back at May bank 2006. The play area is a bit small, but the weather was bad so we went out more. Try the Tissington Trail for bikes or a gentle walk. Chatsworth farm shop is expensive, but if you are a foodie just go and drool! All the meats are ideal for barbeques and you can have a chuckle at the hoi paloi buying game pie for their shoots! We lashed out on some steak for the barbie and it was wonderful.
You can buy a 3 day pass for the house and gardens, but you may like to phone first as it's not well described in their leaflet. This meant we made the most of it. PS if your kids need the loo in the house, just ask a guide and they will direct you to the secret loos. Hope to see some of you at May bank?

My expectations of this site were not realised due to the congestion that existed during my weeks stay. The site is well maintained and the full facilities are up to CC usual standards. The 3 wardens and their spouses were very efficient and in my opinion will face a future of having to solve the problem of where to place the "jugganaut" motorhomes which are now becoming frequent visitors to the CARAVAN Club sites . The pitches at this site are just not large enough for accepting these vehicles. The area and Chatsworth is worthy of a lengthy stay and every taste is well catered for.

What a magnificent site. We spent the bank holiday weekend here. The downside is it does not take campers alone, and therefore we went with my fiancée’s parents and were a pup tent next to their caravan!
The village next to the site is beautiful with many quaint little pubs, serving excellent ales. An exclusive dog walk is provided with ample bins for clearing up. A locked gate leads into the grounds of Chatsworth House where there are many excellent walks and a river.
The facilities are excellent. The showers are heat adjustable and can actually be switched on and left on without having to re-press a button! Makes a change! The toilets close for around an hour for cleaning and were kept immaculate.
All in all an amazing site, with great facilities, makes me want to buy a caravan so we can go back again!

June 2005 CC site with the usual high standard. Includes 26 serviced pitches with water, waste and toilet emptying facilities. Hedges between serviced pitches, but not the others. Very popular site, especially at weekends, essential to book well ahead. Chatsworth Estate is well worth visiting, plenty to see and do. Not much in the way of food shops nearby, only one small, difficult to find and fairly expensive local shop near the school. Too far away to walk to. Good base for exploring the surrounding area too.

August 2004 Spent the bank holiday weekend at Chatsworth CC site - what a lovely place. The pitches are hard standing and well spaced, the staff are very friendly and helpful and facililties exceptionally clean and well maintained. Although the site was busy you didn't feel at all cramped. We pitched opposite the small children's play area (eeekk I hear you all say) but it was great to be able to keep an eye on the little ones on this very safe site - in fact all the kids were fantastic and no bother whatsoever.
When you arrive you choose your own pitch and then report to reception. They then give you a key to the gate which opens into Chatsworth estate.
A big thanks to the maintenance/warden guy who came to our rescue when our car battery was flat!
Whether its a relaxing weekend alone or family break this is definately one to try.

17 November 2003 We stayed here because we were going to an evening do at Chatsworth House and as we are in a motorhome didn't want to walk very far. What a find! Lovely site well laid out, Spacious pitches, very friendly wardens, toilets etc were spotless.
We will certainly visit again. Can't fault it.

May 2002 We are regulars here. It is perfect for us, under 2 hours from home, clean and tidy and perfect for walking. There has been a change in wardens from last year, and I think the place has lost the edge that it had over the other CC sites we have been too. I would still give it a 5 Star rating though. The surroundings and and setting of the site are second to none.

Located in the Peaks National Park, the site is approached from Baslow on the A619 Bakewell to Chesterfield road. It consists of the 6.5 acres of what used to be the walled kitchen garden of the estate. It has mature trees and shrubs amongst the 123 pitches. These are mostly hard standing, with 20 super pitches available. Facilities are to the usual excellent CC standard. Limited supplies (milk bread eggs cold drinks ices and newspapers to order) are available from the office.
'Vanners are given a key to the green door that allows direct access to the estate parkland. Stepping through this, early on a misty morning, was 'magic'. Rolling grassland, wooded hills, the river and marvellous trees. A herd of deer browsing, hundreds and hundreds of sheep safely grazing as they ambled along their narrow tracks. In the distance the house seen in morning mistiness. (Please note that bikes are not allowed on the estate.)
Turn right through the door and the house and gardens are a 15 minute walk away. They are beautiful and well worth a visit but beware the cafeteria costs. The village of Baslow is a 15 minute walk in the other direction. Several pubs, cafes, and a shop.
Also went to Bolsover Castle (English Heritage) which is being restored and is well worth a visit. As well as having an indoor riding school and some wonderful interiors there is a good list of events planned for the year 2000. These include the Lipizaner Horses, concerts, Shakesperian performances, oh and much more. There is so much to do in this area - the high peaks, caves and caverns, good markets etc etc
Thoroughly recommend the site and North Derbyshire.
