I visited Inwood as a party of 3 and we had the most fantastic time. Some people have made negative comments about the reception but we found it perfect. The guy was informative and very welcoming and gave us some good recommended pictures.

As it was only three of us we decided to steer clear of the family areas and go camping under the woods. We collected the fire wood (bargain for a fiver) and within 10 minutes found the perfect spot.

The campsite is really back to basics but the toilets were impeccably clean, the grounds well kept and even the compost toilets were clean.

We visited the pub on the Saturday night at 6 and found that all the tables were booked but the garden is perfect and the food was very good. The walk is a good 40 minutes but was a perfect evening so we loved the fresh air.

I cannot recommend this place enough, we are not seasoned campers but the back to basics approach was nothing to worry about.

We just returned from a very good weekend at the Inwood Camping site. Myself and 9 other friends visited after reading the good reviews here added to the fact that it was only a short 40 minute drive for us.

The site itself is excellent for those who are looking to camp in the woods rather than pitching up in a big field. The atmosphere and feel of the site was great and we really felt like we were on our own in the woods. It's an excellent site for group and families.

The facilities were good, with Compost toilets dotted around the site and a shower and toilet block at reception, all kept very clean and toilets restocked every morning.

We only have a few complaints, the first being the site selling damp wood for camp fires, fair enough they cannot keep it all dry when it rains, but they simply shouldn't sell it for that price when it's damp.

Also during one of our nights, we were told to keep it down at 11:15, even though there were no other parties anywhere near us, and all we were doing was talking and laughing, the rather rude staff member told us to keep quiet and then told us we weren't allowed to use twigs around our tents to help burn the damp wood they sold us, and said it in such a way that we should have been aware of this, even though we weren't told this by anyone. However, this being said, the next morning we were approached by the manager that just wanted to check everything was alright and to apologise as sometimes the night staff can get a bit hot. This we appreciated and have reflected in the score we've given the site.

To finish, I would point out that at £10 per person, per night, it's a big expensive for some folk and it's even more on the bank holidays. However if the location is suitable for you, it's worth the money in our opinions. We will no doubt be returning soon.

This is a very basic site, but a very popular site.

The main appeal with the basic sites is getting back to nature and not seeing the signs of humanity (don't mind humans, just their stuff I don't like!).

There was a lot of rubbish everywhere and the site itself had redundant buildings that were collapsing. We stayed on one of the fields as we had 2 kids with us, and they loved running around, but we could have got that at most other campsites and it would have been cheaper. They charge £10 pppn, which worked out a lot for a place with no facilities to speak of.

I know I sound like a miserable old git, but I didn't really like it here. My other reviews are generally positive too.
Management response: It is difficult to respond to this, as the review seems to bear no relation to the campsite we have here - but I have addressed what seem to be the three most salient points.

The Inwood Campsite was virgin woodland when we first arrived 3 years ago and I can assure readers that the only buildings on the site have been erected by ourselves and are in daily use. The only 'shacks' I can think of that are 'dotted about' are our ecologically efficient and well used compost toilets; they are far from 'redundant' or 'collapsing'! If this reviewer were to return to Inwood, we would happily run them through the usage and benefits of these facilities.

As for 'piles of rubbish', I can only apologise on behalf of my team who must have been blind to such blights on their daily litter run. I am left with the feeling that this reviewer must have come on a bad day, as all the other reviewers are saying things such as- "In fact I thought the whole site was very clean. ". And. "Very clean and well cared for site". I can assure all our campers that we strive daily to maintain a very high standard of site cleanliness which has had unsolicited praise from the landowner himself.

This review also mentions that there are, ". No facilities to speak of. " In addition to the previously mentioned composting toilets, our campers do have access to hot gender specific showers, Ladies and Gents flushing toilets and washing up facilities with 24 hour on demand hot water.

We should also point out that we only charge £10 pppn for adults, and £5 pppn for kids over three.

We at Inwood take our reviews seriously, and we hope this will clarify things for your reviewer.

Yours sincerely

I cannot fault this campsite at all!

We called them up on our way down hoping for a space, I spoke to gentleman who said he wasn't on site but was sure it wouldn't be a problem, but if it was they had another campsite down the road, which definitely had space. We arrived and they were expecting us! with a very warm welcome we were given a map and a quick description and told to pitch where ever we wanted. There was a big stag night booked in on the night but Mark, the manager, recommended the best places to pitch to be out of earshot as we had small children with us.

We found an awesome spot, in the woods, to accommodate our large tent and set up camp. We had purchased a massive bag of logs (£5) and hired a campfire grill to cook our meat (also £5) and that was the last of the formalities. It is a large area with a choice of pitching in the woods or on one of two fields. We chose the woods, we couldn't see our neighbours or hear them. It was like we were a million miles away from civilization, yet actually only a 5 minute drive from a massive sainsburys!

There are plenty of fresh water taps and compost loos ( all stocked with toilet paper and some with air fresheners even though they didn't smell at all!) dotted around the site but also flushing loos and hot showers down at the camp reception (little more than a log hut) there is also a little washing up space.

The woods are extensive and we had a great time going on 'gruffallo hunts', building 'Fairy Camps' and finding previously made dens - which inspired us to build our own den for the kids right next to our tent. It was amazing, the kids were not bored once and even if they were, there are tree swings dotted around and plenty open spaces to play ball games or as we did a little cricket!

After a good peaceful nights sleep, we made a campfire to cook our morning breakfast, enjoyed the peacefulness and then decided to walk to the pub for lunch. The website says 'a brisk miles walk' - its a bit further than that, so with small kids I wouldn't recommend it, we ended up carrying them the last bit there and most of the way back, but our fault really for not taking the buggy! To be honest the food at the pub wasn't fantastic, definitely not worth the walk with small kids, but it was a good walk and we even saw a fawn on the way, which delighted the kids.

We will definitely be back!

Just got back today from this site and totally loved it. Real back to basics. Plenty of room both to camp and for the kids to play, loads of woodland for the kids to build dens too. Real camp fires. The compost toilets (regularly) dotted around the site were fine for us but there were flushing toilets near the reception cabin, where there were also hot showers and a small washing up area. John was so helpful. Really can't think of anything even slightly negative to say! There are a couple of decent pubs within a 5 min drive and also a large sainsburys within a 10 min drive. We will definitely be coming back!

Fantastic. We arrived Friday 7th Sept after work, a little difficult to find as you approach as there is a concealed entrance (very 'concealed').

The other trick was to find reception. But once done, it just got better.

2 basic options, open spaces, or wooded private areas (we selected 'go in to the woods' for the adventure). WOW! what a treat.

Big open spaces could be fairly easy to find with a quick drive around (slowdrive around that is), but you don't need to travel far.

We found a spot 2 minutes walk from toilets/showers, between trees, pitched a 5 man ten, hung tarp between 2 trees to create bigger space/canopy.

The only negatives were 1) cold water from showers (plus side:- very nice shower block none-the-less), 2) local pub was to far and too dangerous to walk (plus side:- they sold 2 pint carton take outs).

Summary - we will visit again (and again) if it remains open.

I was looking for a nice little basic campsite, with relatively dark skies, as me and my friends were hoping to escape the London light pollution to get a good view of the Perseid meteor shower, but didn't want to go too far away from home. The skies were a lot darker - the first time I looked up at the stars, I just went Wow!

The campsite itself is basic; compostable toilets in the fields, but also has hot water showers, flushing toilets and washing up facilities at the main reception area. There are stand pipes and a fire extinguisher in the fields as well.

The part of the whole experience that enticed us to this campsite, was being able to have a proper campfire. Wood was available for £5 - you get a *massive* bag of roughly chopped logs that will easily last the night, with some left over. The site owners have a quad bike and are more than willing to bring the wood up to your spot for you. You can also ask for some wooden logs to sit on for round the campfire - all they ask is for you not to burn them, and they will collect them after you leave for the next group of people to use. As a sidenote - a small axe may be useful to break it up into smaller kindling.

We arrived on a Friday - a few people were leaving, but a few people arrived as well. Saturday night was the busiest, with our field becoming fully occupied overnight. Sunday, everyone packed up and we had the field to ourselves that night, which was nice. There isn't a lot of noise on site, the slight humm of the motorway in the distance, but it was the wildlife that was making the more interesting noises!

The campsite is in a good position, as its just a few minutes drive into basingstoke, where there is a massive supermarket, with everything you could ever need during your trip, but you still feel like you're a million miles away from civilisation - just you, your friends and the stars.

I highly recommend this little campsite, we are really looking forward to staying again this year

What a great campsite! Totally 'in wood'. We went as a group of friends. Great as you can also have real camp fires in the woods where you want.

The facilities are great! You have to ask the shower generator to be turned on, but it's fantastic, hot and clean. Some pitches can be slightly far from the toilets, but it's not a big issues.

Some amazing walks around, especially for all the geocachers out there. On the expensive side but well worth it, if you like real camping, nice atmosphere, not cramped, and welcoming staff. Will be visiting again.

Had a lovely long weekend at Inwood.

As experienced campers we love to find a basic campsite which allows fires. We struggled to find 'reception' having driven past the first time, but once located we received a friendly welcome and advice on where to pitch.

We chose the cedar wood, very secluded and away from the busier open fields. We bought a bag of wood for £5 which was delivered. At first we were a bit disappointed by the amount of wood assuming it would be fast burning pine - but it wasn't and one bag lasted us 2 nights of conservative burning.

The toilet/shower block was clean and well stocked, never had to queue. We didn't use the washing up facilities as it wasn't worth carrying things down for cold water so we washed up at our own pitch.

The children enjoyed the site, loved the tree swing by the wash block, and making stick men and gruffalo hunting in the wood. Nettles mentioned in previous reviews weren't a problem, our children recognise them so avoid them.

The owner was very friendly, always present but never intrusive. We would definitely go there again.

If I was to make any changes to the site, I would put more composting loo's in as we were a good walk away from the nearest loo, and the toilet/shower block could do with some aesthetic fencing.

We had arranged to meet with some friends for a catch-up weekend and were attracted to Inwood by the glowing reviews and location. The online booking procedure is fairly straight forward and we were charged £10 and £5 per adult and child respectively.

On arrival you could easily be put off. The signing is amateur and the reception area does not make for a great first impression. We were greeted by Sam, who was expecting us, and left us to get on with selecting a suitable pitch.

Not knowing quite what to expect, we drove up and down rough, and often muddy, forest tracks for the next hour looking for somewhere to make camp. This is the point when you will need some encouragement! I recommend that since you have come to a woodland campsite you make the most of it and this will demand some effort.

There are some sunny grassy glades but in amongst the trees you won't be able to park next to your tent. Sam and Nick will provide some assistance with transport with their quad bike and trailer if needed. So pull over at the side of a track and walk into the woods. Here you will find numerous clearings and with a bit of manoeuvring even larger tents can be accommodated between the trees. Since you are paying per person I would recommend taking several smaller tents rather than one larger one.

The Inwood camping experience will grow on you very quickly. Get a campfire going to deter the insects (there are some horse flies and mosquitoes about) and don't forget the insect repellent. Relax and chill.

There is so much space you won't disturb your neighbours, and vice versa. The kids can wander and play at den building, setting trails, rope swings and finding creepy crawlies. We found mice in the bread bag, monster slugs under the ground sheet, the black beetles got everywhere and you will all stink of wood smoke too. This is 'real' camping for the kids and adults alike.

The toilets are very clean, there is a washing up area (cold water) and some hot, clean showers (powered by a generator which you need to get turned on for you).

We didn't venture from the campsite all weekend, save a trip to Sainsburys about 10 minutes drive away. There are numerous attractions around but for a couple of nights you will find everything you need to entertain the kids and adults on site.

Take old clothes and some metal grills for cooking on open fires. Then, it will be after dark that the magic of camping in a wood with an open fire kicks in. The reduced light levels mean the kids will sleep in too.

Loved it.
