We stayed at Inwood for 3 nights (Me, my Wife and 8 year old son) having booked via the Inwood web page. The web page appeared to be still under construction so we also visited their 'sister' web page for 'Forgewood' camping where we were told that Inwood was only open at weekends. After this initial confusion I telephoned the site to be told they were fully open. As a result we duly booked easily through the links on the website.
On arrival near the site, the signing for the site itself is very small and poorly visible. Eventually we entered the woods and approached the reception area. A full rubbish skip was the first thing we saw and the portable loo and portable cabin shower block.
The reception had none of our details or booking confirmation but that didn't appear to be a problem so we were directed to drive around the large site to find a suitable pitch.
The site is lovely being situated in the middle of a large wooded copse which surrounds various sized grass areas. We eventually selected the large top field. There are no 'internal' signs to assist your search so we followed every available forest track until hitting upon the top field.
The field has been left uncut and is, sadly, interspersed with large clumps of stinging nettles. Had these been cut back the field would have been ideal. The children playing in this area were subjected to numerous stings and a basic mow along the obvious tent pitch area would easily alleviate these issues.
The views from the top of the field were great looking across the surrounding rolling countryside. This field is serviced by one 'compost toilet'
The main toilet block and shower block were situated near to the tented reception. When we used them, the showers were muddy with very wet floors thus preventing clothes being kept dry as you showered. The water was hot and powerful. The toilet block was reasonably clean with soap/paper towels etc.
The compost loo I have mentioned near our pitch ran out of the required sawdust after one day and was never replenished. The bin where used paper was deposited needed emptying. It was not cleaned at all during our stay.
The site location and general set up is brilliant being, sadly, let down by the small basic issue around the facilities 'housekeeping'. The resident staff member appeared to do nothing about these issues when they were highlighted which resulted in a lesser opinion of our experience at Inwood.
If these housekeeping issues were addressed then I would heartily recommend the site. However, these matters need to be addressed as, although sold as a 'Good old fashioned real camping', real campers still like an element of basic cleanliness and hygiene.

We (2 adults, 2 kids aged 3 & 5) spent 2 nights at the beginning of the school holidays at Inwood.
We arrived late on a Friday night so the grassier site, as you enter Inwood, was full and we had to venture further into the site to find a place to pitch our tent.
There are lots of little clearings amongst the trees for pitching tents, some larger than others. We struggled with the nettles (especially the kids as we hadn't brought their wellies) as they were in the grass as well as around the trees - not great for letting the kids run free.
We did however feel like we'd tucked ourselves away and had a private little space which was nice especially with the campfire going which was really the reason we chose the site.
Facilities were located at the entrance to the site. They were basic but clean and sufficient. Showers were hot and there were plenty of toilets and washbasins. There was a compost toilet at the 'wilder' end of the site where we were which was fine.
In terms of location, the site is probably 20 mins from Basingstoke but not close to anything else really. There are no shops or pubs etc in walking distance.
I would recommend this site to more experienced campers (this was our first proper outing!) with more robust kids! While we didn't experience it first hand, I would suggest that the grassy field at the entrance is more family friendly.

Fantastic campsite *****
Very laid back
Proper camping set in a variety of different woodland,
Friendly atmosphere
Nick very welcoming
All groups welcomed.
You get to choose where you camp
very reasonable around £10 a night
Basingstoke 30 min walk away with all its amenities
The tracks are suitable for a car although slightly rutted in some parts
Highly recommend this campsite
I'm already looking to book again in the near future.

We stayed at Inwood for two nights, it is literally 10 minutes from where we live so thought it ideal for taking advantage of the glorious weather over the weekend.
Booking was simple enough through the new online system.
When we arrived on Friday evening we were greeted by Nick, the 'reception' is easy enough to miss, it's a little shed on the left hand side between the portaloos and showers.
We were given a choice of where we wanted to pitch, advised to have a drive around and have a look.
We decided on the 'field with a view' It's in a glorious position and had full advantage of all day sunshine. There is a compost toilet and water supply at the entrance to the field, the main toilets are about a 7 minute walk away.
There was plenty of space between each tent, there was rather a large group next to us but as we were so far away noise was never an issue.
One minor downside was that the field did have clumps and patches of stingy nettles that made it difficult for the child to just run about and play. It's probably a toss up between having that wild meadow feel and the nettles or shorter cut grass.
The pitch would be 100% perfect for us if that issue was resolved (and it was totally our choice to pitch there, the view was irresistible!)
Having said that, there were plenty of other areas that were nettle free, a lovely field near the entrance and a gorgeous pitch in an orchard area, plus lots of places in the woods.
We had a campfire on the 2nd night, Nick helpfully delivered us firewood (£5 per bag) which lasted well into the night.
We had friends visit on the Saturday, again very relaxed feel to that (we checked on the Friday evening that it was OK and were told it was not a problem), they were pointed in our direction when they arrived.
Our two girls (3 and 5) had a great time, they loved the woods, Gruffalo hunting, and we may have even located where the Big Bad Mouse lives!
Overall the site has a very relaxed feel, perhaps a little wilder and rougher than more polished sites but therein lies the charm!
We hope to make good use of Inwood as it is so close to us and look forward to trying out all the different pitches.

I have been to a few good campsites and many mediocre ones over the years, but Inwood was truly that enjoyable that I felt compelled to join this site and leave them a good review.
Situated a 10-15 minute drive from Basingstoke makes the site very good in terms of local amenities (we even brought back some pizza one night. While on site there is no sense of being anywhere near such a large conurbation. The woods in which you pitch your tent (no caravans!) are quite substantial and littered with idyllic spots often with usable fire sites. They are a pleasant blend of young glades, mature woodland and stands of tall pines, while we were visiting the floor was completely carpeted with bluebells.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful, even using a quadbike to ferry our gear into the woods and delivering fire wood at very reasonable rates.
The toilets were all in good condition and the toilet roll wasn't the cheapest I've seen which I found to be a subtle but nice touch. There were also a couple of lone composting toilets out in the woods away from the main units which were also in very good condition although you should use your own roll for them. Sadly the showers weren't working during our stay but as all the different pitches are very spread out and discreetly placed it was no problem to just heat some water and wash at your tent. All of these features make it a wonderful site in my opinion and one of the best priced out there too given the quality of the experience (and we went on the May bank holiday weekend), so much so that sitting outside my tent and watching circling buzzards and catching glimpses of shy deer in the undergrowth really was the icing on an already superb cake!

We Visited Inwood Camping for seven nights at the end of August and we would just like to say a huge thank you. We as a family have holidayed in this country and abroad but by far this was the most relaxing holiday we have had.
When you arrive you are invited to look around and find a pitch, the relaxed approach rubs off onto you straight away. The Loos and showers are porta cabin, but cleaner than most traditional sites we have stayed at. The pitch was exactly what we wanted tucked away in a clearing in some trees.
During our stay we lit fires and cooked on an open fire as we had hoped. There is always someone around if you need them, but they let you get on with it which was great.
We stayed around the site for the first two days and then decided to venture out. We visited Winchester and the Cathedral, Twyford Water Works, the Hawk Conservancy and the Intech Science museum. There was so much to do. There was also an Asda 10 min drive away for picking up supplies.
We will be going next year and even if the weather is not great you can cope.

This was my second stay here. I come for one night, with the children. Although we are experienced campers, we normally travel with masses of stuff. At Inwood, we 'backpack' from the car park, walking 1/4 mile. Just tents, cooking pot and a campfire - not even gas canisters! The children have adored it.
You can, if you want, be near a toilet - there are portacabins at the carpark, along with electric showers, or a tap and compost toilet (brilliant - no flush, just chuck in a handful of sawdust).
However, the best bit is there are no pitches - the first time we set up in a clearing, the second time in the woods. The campfire is the main attraction, enough for my kids, anyway.
There seems to be no 'oversight', though I'm sure Pablo, who is very friendly would assist as needed.

Just back from spending a couple of nights at Inwood. We booked late for 2 pitches over the Bank Holiday weekend, but they were very accommodating and didn't mind when we changed our booking from 3 nights to 2 at the last minute.
The site was great for the children (our girls spent hours on the tree swing), we loved the campfires and as everyone has already noted, Pablo was very laidback, but visible throughout the day. Thanks to the huge size of the site we hardly saw the other campers, despite it being the August BH weekend.
It's in a great location, within easy reach of the M3 and the A303 for anyone travelling on down to Dorset, Devon or Cornwall. The surrounding villages are gorgeous and we too had a superb meal at the Jolly Farmer.
I would recommend you bring 2 things to make camping at Inwood easier on yourself. Firstly a footprint or spare groundsheet for the tent - there are a lot of brambles on the ground, some of which we could feel underfoot in the tent.
Secondly spare soap and hand gel. The toilets were just about ok, but ran out of soap by Saturday evening and didn't seem to be topped up again even after they had been cleaned on Monday morning.
All in all though, a great site and hopefully some of the permanent features of Forgewood will be brought in for next season.

Two words = Real Camping
Eight of us rocked up to In Wood one Sunny Friday night in August, we were met by Pablo, who gave us the run down on the site, then pointed us to the wood to find our own camp ļ
After a walk around the wood we plumbed for a spot in the wood around an already established fire pit, large log seats. Just what the Doctor ordered
In Wood is most definitely back to basics, as all the other reviews have said, but it has everything a camper needs.
It was very refreshing the way that we, eight male 30 somethings, were treated by the site. Some times sites are scared of large groups of men (who are really just big kids) but all we are about is having a sensible good, chilled out time with our mates around a campfire that we can sit around, stare into and cook on.
The site was only open for 3 weeks when we arrived so everything was still very ¡§wood like¡¨ with not many beaten down tracks into the woods or camping areas. This will take time but the more people us the areas they will naturally form and evolve.
The noise was not an issue. Yes you get the occasional plane over head or the hum of a motor bike in the distance but all in all you will not notice as the wood take you under its spell.
A fabulous place, we will most definitely be returning, and maybe even camping under stars in make-shift shelters.

This is one of best camping trips we have ever had. That is why we will be going twice this August. This is proper camping.
No need to buy fire wood, Just get the kids to collect from the woods. Not a person in site most of the time. Why shower at this level of camping go somewhere else if you want luxury. We camped too far from the toilets so we just returned back what we took from nature.
Other reviews mentioned the military flight path but I think it just adds to the excitement of wild camping with fighter jets and helicopters roaring pass.
Being sensible you can camp where you want, do what you want and have a campfire all day without restrictions. We had four children from 5 to 14 and they all loved the place with walks in the woods, getting lost, climbing trees and playing with campfire. Great to have lots of tree around so the wife and I had a private area where we have our own little campfire just outside our tent and the kids were a stones throw away in there own area.
Warden was friendly and helpful, even lent us a satnav to find the local shops. I hope this is not a campsite for most people so the numbers of people can be kept down and the experience of raw nature can be left.
