A very pleasant site just on the outskirts of Puncknowle (pronounced ‘Punnel’) with the smoothest camping field I have ever seen, sloping gently away from the washing facilities and with attractive views to the hills beyond.
This is a basic campsite, which is what we like, as it doesn’t appeal to families with loads of children seeking constant entertainment. There are two swings for small children. The surrounding area is set in a secluded and peaceful part of Dorset that doesn’t seem to have been discovered by tourists and is cross-crossed by many footpaths, making for endless walking opportunities in addition to the more obvious coastal path. If we’re ever in the area again, we will be back!
The attractive village pub is just a five-minute stroll away and serves good real ale and decent food, including hand-made pizzas. It houses the only shop serving the village and stocks everything you could need for a camping break. Breakfast is served for groups of four or more, if ordered the day before.
The campsite wash block is spotlessly clean and there is plentiful hot water, but with only two showers for men and another two or three for women, it could get very busy in high season, although there was another wash block in the caravan area. There are no electricity sockets for hair-dryers etc. And one shaver point in the gents. Showers are metered and cost 40p a time, but run for seven minutes, which is plenty.
There’s a separate area with hot water for dish-washing. The friendly and helpful staff will freeze ice blocks for you for 10p each. Camping is £15 per night, £18 if you want an electricity hook-up, but beware that for this you will either be crammed into the one corner of the field with an electricity supply, or you will be obliged to pitch amongst the touring caravans and motorhomes, which may not be what you want.
Be aware also that there is a row of houses along the eastern boundary of the site, one of which keeps chickens and a cockerel. The hens sound charming to begin with, but soon become intrusive and spoil the otherwise tranquil feel of the site. As they tend to do, the cockerel crows at dawn every day, which in July is 5-6. 00am. If you don’t find this to your liking, make sure that you pitch your tent away from that side of the field.
A final word of WARNING – approach the site from the village, heading north only. If you approach from the north, heading south, you will be confronted with a very tight hairpin bend and be forced to turn in the road. Trailers or caravans would get stuck if attempting this.

Could Park anywhere. Token for showers but did not get 7 mins as supposed to lucky if got 5 mins. No lighting at night to go to other end of field to toilets and showers needed a torch.
Beach nearby lovely but all pebbly. No shops nearby unlike other sites thankfully took supplies with us. Stayed 2 nights thankfully not any longer.
Not disabled friendly for the showers ladies have to walk up approx. 3 steps. Nothing was mentioned when we telephoned about being disabled just that needed tokens for the showers.
Therefore no disabled toilets either unlike other campsites. Wasn't impressed that blokes were jumping over the gates to go to have a pee behind hedges rather than walking to the toilets.
Expensive to just put up a tent in a grass field.

The site is in a really nice Dorset village, we stayed for 5 nights at £13 a night for two of us. The showers were an extra 40p for 7 mins.
Loads of space and the owners were friendly, they frequently tended the grass during our stay. The toilet/shower blocks are quite small but very well looked after (the women's in particular). Great view of the stars and loads of rabbits about.
We would also recommend the Eggcup Tearooms which is close by, great scones.

We stayed for four nights at Home Farm.
It is a lovely quiet campsite, with plenty of space. It cost us £16 per night, with a campervan and awning, no electric hook up.
We arrived at 7pm which was too late for the reception to be open, so we phoned the owners who allowed us to pitch up and see them in the morning to pay.
The reception is in a caravan near the toilet block and they also sell the basics e. G. Eggs milk etc
There are two ladies toilets and two Ladies showers in the tent field. There is a hair dryer in both the shower and the toilet block. Both toilet and shower blocks are kept clean and fully stocked (soap and toilet paper). Shower tokens cost 40p each and the shower lasts for approximately 7 minutes, which was ample time for me to wash my hair!
In the field there are several fire points and several recyling and waste points and ample fresh water taps.
As the site is very quiet it was amazing to see all the stars in the sky after it had gone dark.
The local village is lovely and very quiet and the local pub is about a 3 minute walk from the site. We did not go into the pub but it looks like they have a good menu.
The site is within a short drive from Chesil Beach, Lyme Regis, Weymouth, West bay, Charmouth and loads of local attractions. The Tithe barn and Swannery at Abbotsbury is excellent for young children and there is a lovely playground at Abbotbury too.
We very much enjoyed our stay here and will be back if we come back to this area again.

We stayed two weeks on this lovely peaceful site. Owner tends the grass with great care and skill so it was always lawn like on the caravan area and owner was very attentive and friendly when we arrived.
Puncknowle (pronounced Punnel) is a very pretty village and The Crown is a great pub, two minutes walk from the site.
The landlord and landlady have recently taken it over were very friendly and welcoming, we had a lovely meal there.
If we return to this part of Dorset, Home Farm is where we'll stay.

This was a lovely site, very well kept in beautiful surroundings, the views were spectacular, and there was a dog friendly pub literally just around the corner. Toilets and showers were spotlessly clean. I liked the fact that the showers were not included in the pitch fee, as this was great value for money as was the cost of the shower. The owners were very helpful and friendly. Would love to go again.

A good basic campsite in a nice location. The owners were friendly.
The shower block was clean and the water hot but I'm not sure whether there would be enough facilities to go round if the site was full (I virtually had the place to myself).
There is a colony of rooks living in a group of trees in the next field who make a bit of a racket in the evening but at least they shut up after dark. Didn't bother me and much less annoying than the sound of traffic or children!
This was my second visit to this campsite and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if I was in the area.

We have just returned from a very pleasant stay at Home Farm and will definitely return next year.
We found the owners very pleasant and friendly and were a little surprised by some of the other reviews on this site which we felt were unfair. Yes the toilet blocks are not the most modern ones you will find but they were clean and efficient.
If you want round the clock kids entertainment go to one of the big Haven style ones, or a hotel! If you value the quieter style campsites and appreciate peace and quiet, and outdoor living then give this one a try. You will find beautiful views of the Dorset hills, rabbits grazing in the lower camping field, a Palmers real ale pub within walking distance where you will get a good meal at a reasonable price. It is situated within easy driving distance of the coast. We enjoyed popping into Westbay for bread and milk in the mornings and exploring Bridport, Chesil Beach and Lyme Regis during the day.
We will definitely return. Thank you for making us most welcome.

Lovely campsite Loved the fact that all the tents were around the edge of the tent field, so plenty of room for the children to play in the large open space.
The campsite owners were both very friendly & attentive to any requirements that we had.
Toilets & Shower facilities on site were ideal.
The area is good for walks with spectacular views over Bride Valley. Many local attractions to visit eg Abbotsbury Swannery, Fishing at West Bexington. Local country pub just around the corner to the site serving good home cooked meals.
Had a great camping holiday and will be returning there next year.

We are new to life under canvas, only our second year camping on the West Dorset Coast. Wasn't sure what would work best so tried a number of sites over two weeks. The last site we visited, Home Farm, was exactly what we were looking for. We arrived later than intended but the site owners were helpful and attentive. The site was well kept, clean, great views and an ideal base to explore the coast. It is a no frills site, so don't expect extensive amenities but there is everything you will need at a reasonable price. The local pub was a real bonus, a three minute walk from the site and a great way to unwind; full of character with good food. Really loved our time here - back for more next year.
